Hello! that's a wonderful receiver! thank you for sharing.

PM2 type valves like in the H.A.C. one valve radio kit I made when aged 14. I've got several valves, bases, etc. bought at radio rallies and want to make one again. I can start now. G4GHB, I forgot to say it was a regenerative set.

Reminds me of something I've seen in a magazine. Hikers 1 I believe. Most impressed with performance.

Didn't they also use a lump of coal as a point contact diode. Even easier to come by. The coil will have some self capacitance between the windings so with a certain number of turns you get resonance at a particular frequency (120 for Medium Wave). A simple tuner involves scraping away the shellac and running a piece of tin across the turns to effectively shorten or lengthen the coil.

It would also be possible to make use of a triode, or almost any other valve, connected as a diode, so that the only voltage required would be the filament voltage. However, with a triode, it is possible to improve sensitivity and selectivity enormously by using regeneration. If you have an old battery valve, designed to operated on a HT voltage of 90 volts, it will, in fact, operate quite well right down to twelve volts, particularly when used as a regenerative detector.

OK! So you are using the valve as a diode? As for battery longevity, I just hauled out a pair of AAAs made by Philips expiring April 2003 from a digital pocket multimeter; no corrosion and they light up a 1.5V 0.3A pea-bulb perfectly!

You could also make a super regenerativ receiver, that gives gain and selectivity that is a lot better.

No tuning condenser

I used a coil with wire taps to replace the tuning condenser but a tuner would have been more precise. I was wound to receive smooth radio.

That’s sounds like a voltage regulator tube, which wouldn’t really work! a triode tube would be great and some tubes you can get are dual triode tubes which can do a lot!

@@tucker934 Thanks, I tried the O1A on my crystal set, set some required volts on the filament, it actually worked, but the set is louder with a regular diode.

@@TheCubbyman61 the 01A wouldn’t have a filament if I’m right that it’s a voltage regulator tube, and a quick search says I was Wrong. That tube is a triode, and not a voltage regulator tube. And the triode is what you needed

@@tucker934 Yes it's a triode and 5 volts on the filament got it working on my crystal radio. Thanks.

@@TheCubbyman61 Thats Great! I ordered some germanium diodes gonna try, and put one together got a wild over complicated idea for one. I say that I’m just looking to have fun with it! Glad you got yours working!
