Another fine and fair review, Dude - Thank you. This episode was all Doctor-info-dumps and make-work for everyone else. The Grand Serpent spends decades attempting to become head of UNIT so he can drop Earth's defenses for a Sontaran attack - Would have made more sense to simply hack UNIT systems with advanced alien tech exactly when the alien fleet arrives. UNIT was created at the suggestion of Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart after the events in the Web Of Fear - He was promoted to Brigadier and made head of the UK Branch, which would have been in the '70's, and not 1958 as stated in this episode. Lethbridge-Stewart is heard in this episode, on a telephone call in the background as the Serpent and General Farquahar descend the stairs, but is described as a Corporal. Lethbridge-Stewart was trained at Sandhurst Military Academy, so would have started as an 2nd Lieutenant. The detail here is laughable - for all that Chibnall claims to be a fan, his knowledge of the show is ropey at best. Keep up the good work, fella! Take care. :)

There's a long running BBC television series called "Casualty" that has aired on a Saturday nights sinces the 1980's. The BBC would describe it as an on going serial, but I would clasify it as a "soap". Anyway, it's set in an accident and emergency ward of a hospital, so there are a number of regular characters and visiting "guest stars" per episode. Like the BBC that produces it (and Dr. Who) it's message is one of peace and tollerance, but within that, like Dr. Who, there's a lost of loss and suffering. I don't regard "Casualty" as worth watch because it's fairly standard drama (see "Call the Midwife" and any number of other similiar dramas). Within every episode there is what I would describe as "the car park scene". That's a clunky scene when the drama stops and a regular character and a guest cast member sit in the car park and spell out a life lesson to the audience. Now, that's what Chibbs does in his version of Who. Stop the drama and give the life lesson. Clunk!

I can't see that fob watch without thinking of Christopher Walken in Pulp Fiction.

I was enjoying flux until this episode, but when this whole tecteun thing came back, I lost all interest.
