The doctor's previous incarnation just watched River die, and others in the library. he cannot stand endings and if he cannot get River back then he will try to save Clara as the only other person he ever loved. She taught him how to love, how to open up to love. even if she is dead he will try to save her. When she dies he turns to River then he finds a way to get Clara back when he loses River.

Truly lovely video essay. I became a Whovian during the 4th Doctors episodes. I love it because it shows that compassion is a strength, not a weakness--something our world needs right now. I truly appreciate your take on grief. My best friend of 50 years (yes, I am old) passed aawwaay in February, so I am still hurting deeply. That episode and your words are very comforting. Tenant is my favorite doctor, because I think he is a truly amazing actor,. but I agree that Capaaldi is no slouch. Having said that, my favorite series is the Van Gogh arc. I cannot watch any of it without melting into tears. Thanks again for such a lovely video.

I never have hated the romance in doctor who (except the doctor and amy but that was short lived), but i definitely agree that it doesn’t make sense for his character. except for river song. i haven’t finished the video so pardon me if he talks about the doctors romance with river, but damn is it good. river is a human with timelord dna, so she has regenerations like the doctor. if it wasn’t for the library, she could have lived with the doctor for as long as she wanted to. and their relationship makes sense. she was the one supposed to kill the doctor, but she fell in love with him before she could do it. the husbands of river song is one of the best episodes of doctor who in my opinion, because it is the perfect mix of happy and sad. happy because of the actual episode, but sad because you just know that this is the last time the doctor is going to see her, and the second to last time she will see him.

Stop trying to make people happy. You should look at the majority of the people reacting and enjoying your video. I recently rewatched it and even 2 years of me getting older and maybe a tat wiser, it still gets me to smile and makes me remember why i'ver fallen in love with Doctor Who in the first place. People come, people go. Dont take the critics to hard. The internet is loud and there are so many Voices. Maybe in some other way you should look at retention. People listened to what you had to say about this quirky little big show and continued to watch. We can't agree on everything but that makes listening, talking and all in all discussion that much greater. I cannot wait to hear, what you've got to say about the new Season. Hope to hear from you soon :)

Finally a video that criticises the chibnall era cinematography. While S10 was peak doctor who to me visually, with strong contrasts, no diffusion, and an overall grounded look, combined with lifelike and saturated (but not oversaturated) colours, overall crisp, precise, and deliberate visuals resulting in a high quality TV production look, the chibnall era is full of my least favourite visual choices that serve a supposed stereotypical cinematic-ness that just falls flat without deliberate application: excessive diffusion, low contrast, excessive depth of field without in-focus establishing shots leading to disorientation, akward camera angles, disorienting shakey handheld shooting, muddy warm somewhat desaturated colour grading, it feels much less deliberate and more like "we could shoot on wide open cooke lenses because they're cool" without considering whether it fits the kind of programme they're shooting. It looks more like a dream sequence than a coherent story. It looks like warm-ish soup. It's truly devastating.

Unknowingly Man is The Doctor's sign of his trust and bewildering honesty. A poker-faced Time Lord in a desperate hour of banter as in those who have been at his side will witness a waving warrior of time as has seen all the chaos of the universe and the way it has to end. Being Gallifrian isn't human it is a Lord Of Time to the Doctor it's been a journey of seeing people he knows or will know as memories follow from the countless regeneration of 60 years in his two heartbeats from his first to his new face this is his heartache his tears of many companions friends loved ones and seeded in the corner of this even those his dreaded and possibly helped to become the fear of the universe the doctors darkness part of himself the Valeyard or The War Doctor. In the Doctor Who Timeless Regeneration, the universe is his primary concern and the timelines are his playgrounds an old man runs away but sooner or later something will come calling four knocks on The Tardis Doors unopened story?

Sorry you got so much hate but unfortunately that seems to be inevitable for any content. In my opinion, listen to constructive critism, ignore bland "I hate this I hate you" type of stuff, and be proud of your work. I love long video essay videos as background noise, but I sat down and truly watched the whole thing at once. Fair criticism and a great overall performance, I subscribed and was excited to see more but just disappointed that people were spreading enough hate to discourage you. I think it's great, I'm subscribing and hoping for more videos soon, good luck with your degree!

I remember sneaking a peek at my parents while they were watching TV. I asked what they were watching, and it was a show called Doctor Who. I sat there and watched it with them. I thought it was neat, so I decided to keep watching it, on my own. I was only 6 or 7 at the time when I first saw Eccleston running around and defeating all the bad guys. I think that's when it all started for me. I was too young to understand any of the deeper meaning behind the show, but I was drawn to it endlessly. Like you said, I'd spam on the TV remote button for the next episode. I'm a bit more grown up now, and I decided to rewatch the whole thing 2 years ago. Only then did I really... feel it. I can't say how many times I had cried watching it. This show has touched me in such a profound way. I myself took away some kind of desire to be kind and help others, the Doctor as my role model. It also helped me in a time while escapism was all I turned to. Imagining myself flying around with an immortal alien in a blue box to so many wonderous adventures, so much different from the dullness of my life. It was another life for me, one with the dull bits cut out. Again, that was quite a few years ago. So when I clicked on this video, I heard the signature Doctor Who intro I've heard so many times before as a kid geeking out in front of my home TV. I kid you not I was shedding tears of nostalgia before the whole video essay. I had forgotten so much of what Doctor Who really was to me. All the lessons, the memories, why I kept watching it in the first place. I had let life beat me down, and I forgot the Doctor. I'm so happy to be able to revisit this time in my life so vividly, through the art you have created. Thank you for reminding me to be a doctor. And never eat pears, they always make your chin wet.

putting Rose at the bottom has got to be purely “I don’t like the romance!” stance- in series 1 she is such an incredibly written character. No clue how you can put Martha above her, she was great but has significantly less of a personality to me

I always imagined in the end he relents, and thus redeems himself, and deliberately erases his own mind to be able to cope, but let's Clara believe he didn't, so she will stay away from him. The Doctor Lies!! Killing the General is a moment of Madness for a tortured soul, the Time Lords gave so little for her single life, why would he care one of their many? It's suddenly the first doctor - rock in hand - again!

Hello @Brub52 Firstly, thank you for making this video essay. It's nice to hear the fan base critically evaluating and exploring the Revived-Series Doctor Who Production, allowing us all to us such a piece to re-evaluate our own thoughts and coming to sound conclusions as a result. I would love to spend some time talking to you about the Chibnall era. By no means am I a fan of it, but choices were made within it that change the landscape of Doctor Who; a landscape I'm sure RTD and Moffat will be scratching their head about in the coming years. To put it simply though, Where should the show go from here? The universe is vastly different with Flux. The Time Lords of Gallifrey are, for the most part, gone. The Doctor has a new layer of complication. Where should the show go from here?
