CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Bruno (Robert Walker) makes an impromptu pitch on how to perform the perfect murder, Guy (Farley Granger) ends up leaving the conversation rather disturbed.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In one of Alfred Hitchcock's suspense classics, tennis pro Guy Haines (Farley Granger) chances to meet wealthy wastrel Bruno Anthony (Robert Walker) on a train. Having read all about Guy, Bruno is aware that the tennis player is trapped in an unhappy marriage to to wife Miriam (Laura Elliott) and has been seen in the company of senator's daughter Ann Morton (Ruth Roman). Baiting Guy, Bruno reveals that he feels trapped by his hated father (Jonathan Hale). As Guy listens with detached amusement, Bruno discusses the theory of "exchange murders." Suppose that Bruno were to murder Guy's wife, and Guy in exchange were to kill Bruno's father? With no known link between the two men, the police would be none the wiser, would they? When he reaches his destination, Guy bids goodbye to Bruno, thinking nothing more of the affable but rather curious young man's homicidal theories. And then, Guy's wife turns up strangled to death. Co-adapted by Raymond Chandler from a novel by Patricia Highsmith, Strangers on a Train perfectly exemplifies Hitchcock's favorite theme of the evil that lurks just below the surface of everyday life and ordinary men.

Can someone please just post the whole movie, even if it lasts only a week? It'd be worth it, because it's definitely the best Hitchcock movie ever made.

Robert Walker is mesmerising as the psychotic Bruno, he surely had an amazing career ahead of him if he had lived.

He shouldn't have said that. In Bruno's sick mind that was Guy giving permission for the "plan".

@@crepesoftime but that's the thing about Guy, is that deep down, he wanted it...it's the whole dynamic of their relationship. Bruno's obsession with Guy and Guy trying not to admit to himself that he does want his wife dead and that he enjoys Bruno's infatuation and desire of him

@@andromedastar4900 I'll give you that he wanted to get rid of Miriam as far as getting her out of his life but I don't think he wanted her dead. Yes, I know he says, "I could strangle her" but still, that was in a heat of the moment sort of thing. Look how shocked and angry he was when Bruno told him what he had done. He was not infatuated with Bruno, he wanted him to steer clear, I'm not sure what you're basing that on.

At the time people looked older for some reason. In 1953 a cover story in Life magazine showed young women graduating from college, they all looked like they were in their 30s even though most were 22. Maybe the emphasis on youthfulness didn’t happen til a few years later.

I don't know if this is just me, I might be mad, but look at Farley Granger...couldn't he just be Keanu Reeves's grandad? I mean...not just in looks but also in the way he speaks? I know Farley Granger ain't exactly known as a 'ladies man' but...I think its uncanny...must have happened by osmosis...criss-cross...

He died a couple of months after the movie premiered (movie came out in June 1951), and less than a year after filming (it was filmed between October and December of 1950, Walker died in August of 1951). His death is especially sad, as he was only 32 years old and he died because of a doctor's mistake. He was amazingly talented, and it's such a shame that his life and career were cut so short.

I think it could also be like a keepsake. Since he's so obsessed with Guy, Bruno keeps it like it was gifted to him. That's why he carries it around in his pocket the entire film.
