Ego Lemos works as the National Adviser on Curriculum Development for Basic Education on Arts & Culture and Permaculture School Gardens, for the Ministry of Education of Timor-Leste. He is also a lecturer in Sustainable Agriculture and Public Arts & Culture at the University of Timor-Letse. He has received several international awards for his national contribution to music, art & culture and community development.
Ego is the founder-coordinator of the Sustainable Agriculture Network and Organic Agriculture Movement in Timor-Letse. He is also the founder-coordinator of Permaculture Timor-Letse (PERMATIL), as well as the founder-counselor of PERMASCOUT and PERMA-YOUTH movements.
He co-authored ‘Permaculture Gardens for Kids’ produced by PERMATIL, and ‘A Tropical Permaculture Guidebook’ (www.permaculture guidebook.org). It's free to download, but if you can, please make a generous donation.
He is sole author of the ‘Training Manual for Agro-biodiversity in Timor-Leste (GIZ-AMBERO) and National Curriculum for Basic Education Grad 1 - 6 (Min of Edn).
Ego holds a Diploma of Permaculture Design (Permaculture Institute of Australia) and certificates in Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MDF Pacfic-Indonesia Consultancy) and Integrating Nutrition in Primary Education Curriculum (FAO). Your guest talks about hybrid seeds my question is do you or him consider open pollinated "hybrids" bad or was he talking more along the lines of GMO,s??? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience love the videos! From Maine in the United States

The traditional open pollinated seeds that they used were replaced in the green revolution with hybrids from the companies (pre-GMOs) that required great levels of irrigation and chemical fertiliser to maintain - a focus too on cash-cropping. This sweeping change, supported by the government and enforced by the military, completely changed the farming landscape and saw a rapid decline in the availability of the seeds that were so suited to feeding families, and growing in the soils and climates without the huge inputs. Of course they would have been improving them over generations, but that's different - you can save seeds from these. The commercial hybrids you have to buy each year.

I have a question I did the newspaper and straw garden this year But what do I do in the fall And then again in the spring Dig it in or layer more on? Tks

I simply layer more on. If the garden is not weedy, I just add more compost and mulch.
