Phantom Menace still rules, and always will. Saw it yesterday, despite it's flaws, it's still iconic and it still gives me chills. Compared to the dog shit Disney is peddling these days, the prequels are masterpieces.

I remember loving these movies as a little kid, and all I heard for 20+ years was how bad they were so I assumed everyone was right and I just liked them because I was young. Then I ACTUALLY WATCHED THEM as an adult. They are pretty good movies. Not as good as the original trilogy, but better than the new trilogy. Episode 1 is the weakest of the 3, but it's definitely not bad. It's a really fun space adventure movie, and if you could somehow release it without people knowing it was Star Wars people would look back and say "yeah that was a pretty cool movie.". The podrace is fun, the lightsaber battle at the climax is terrific, probably the second best live action lightsaber battle ever. Jar Jar isn't even that annoying and he's basically people's whole criticism of the movie. He just sticks out because he doesn't fit the more serious tone of Star Wars in general. You know, like YODA in Empire! Which is one of the most beloved characters in the franchise in what is generally considered the best movie in the franchise. Or maybe the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi? So it's not like he's even unique in the Star Wars film series. The story? You want to say the story is contrived? Again, the original trilogy! We've had FIFTY YEARS of people trying to fix the hundreds of contrivances of the original trilogy. The whole first movie is nonsense if you actually think about it. Why would there be a magic exhaust port that blows up the biggest space station ever if you shoot into it? Why wouldn't they have 10,000 tie fighters defending it? How the hell would they manage to escape a moon sized space station with tens of thousands of soldiers defending it, with the most important prisoner in tow? Why wouldn't the empire just bombard echo base into rubble from orbit with 1,000 star destroyers in Empire? THEY ARE MOVIES! If it were real the rebellion would have ZERO chance. But that would be a stupid movie. People just ran these movies down because they don't live up to the classic trilogy. But WHAT DOES? Those are 3 of the best movies ever made. Definitely the best SciFi trilogy ever and probably the best fantasy trilogy in general, at least between them and Lord of the Rings. It's not a "disasterpiece" or whatever else. It's just a really good movie trying to live up to a legendary trilogy that came before it.

Just got out of the theater, didn’t enjoy this movie for a long time but wow. Idk if it’s bc of the recent stuff that’s been coming out or not but this film actually kinda slaps. The film is super charming. I think really the only downfall I have is the momentum crash when they get to coruscant. Music and sound were off the chain. Jar jar wasn’t as jarring as I remembered. Walked out thinking fondly of this movie

I will respectfully disagree with you. As a older fan myself. Something George said is what I have to terms is and he is correct…..these movies are made for a younger demographic. Yes they can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Don’t whine about Ewoks and Gungans. The acting and dialogue is the same in the OT, I sigh and give a eye roll every time I hear that criticism. When Star Wars aims for a older demographic it fails….Solo, Andor didn’t get viewership despite getting raves. Why did Mando get so popular? Baby Yoda. Star Wars will never be a adult franchise. Get over it

12:26 I only noticed it for the first time ever today, but the very first hint that Qui-Gin got that Anakin was special, was when Anakin mentioned in the shop that he podraces and is the only human to do it, plus he is only a boy. Later Watto mentions to Qui-Gon that Anakin is a "credit to your race" referring to Anakin's incredible skills and reflexes. Another thing that tips Qui-Gon off is that Qui-Gon fails to lie to Anakin every step of the way, since he is extra perceptive and can sense feelings

we loved it, watching in the theater again, my favorite, builds such a believable galaxy! - jar jar binks is always funny and cute, good for kids to get into it.

In my opinion the Gui-Gon character should have been Obi-Wan..He should have discovered Anakin not some other character especially if you go by his speech in Return Of The Jedi

I watched it again recently 2. May the 4th it was weird because I'm sure I had seen it double digits of times, but this was the first time that I kind of looked at it as if I were a child. And then it really came off as a kids movie. Like the bad directing of people and the bad acting that came from that. So cheesy.

I didn’t give this movie enough credit back in 1999. I thought it was a steaming horse turd, but it’s actually not that bad. It’s more like a cat turd wrapped in dog turd.

Honestly the only props I can give you are how you aren’t a complete Plinkett parroter. The Gungan army are there to stall the invasion. Kenobi and QuiGon are still stopped by Maul and droids at the castle hangar while the majority of the droids are in space or on a field where they logically should be so idk why you took issue. A bumbling clumsy fool gets promoted to general and senator politician, I see no problem that’s very realistic lmao. Anakin has an affinity to machines beyond pod racing, it’s noted how incredible he is with droids so you forgot that as an indication of his potential. You also discarding the pod racing scene as evidence for Anakin being the chosen one. That was dishonest criticism. It’s part of the film, you can’t ignore it from a story perspective then immediately praise its technical feats. Anakin was taught how to work a space fighter by somebody on the ship and the majority of his flight was in auto pilot. Watch the film again. He’s not a Mary sue. At least you didn’t say Padme groomed Anakin.

What a pointless movie, even by Star Wars Prequel standards. It could be fully excised from existence without affecting the overall story.

I saw this movie when it was released in 99. I was 14 I think, and super into Star Wars and came out thinking it was boring. I watched it again a few years ago and now it's just painful to sit through. Anakin's actor is just straight up awful, and Jar Jar is just as bad. Every scene with them is near unwatchable. Nostalgia does weird things to people. I hated the Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, but I'd sit through either of those a dozen times before watching this trash movie ever again.

Remake the prequels and give it to a talented director like Paul Thomas Anderson or Derek Cianfrance.
