I went to Ghana to see my friend from 5 years ago. I was staying there for 2 weeks and a week and a half has passed. We went to a store/restaurant while walking back to the car we saw 3 fires on the side of the road and people were saying “that’s what thieves get” which means there were 3 thieves burning and worst part they were conscious and they were screaming for help.

I am not surprised. Imagine your already so poor even after toiling hard from a daily work, and I get robbed, it's not just anger, it's furious fury hell fire level. And we all know this thieves are gonna be release soon right after they being caught by the cops. The justice seems imbalance. This also happened in Indonesia.

I know a lot of people that think like you do, but always compare in which country the life quality for the people (safety, justice system, job market, medical support, infrastructure) is magnitudes better, and then look how severe the punishments are in that country. For example lots of people complain that Germany is too soft on crime, but look how rich, safe and free everyone is and how long they live there. it shows that the more advanced a society is, the less severe the punishments get. yeah, you probably support cutting off a hand in your society, but look how many thieves you got, the streets are full of them. in germany you have a very light punishment, but you have extremely few thieves in comparison.
