Be very, very careful working with higher voltages. Also, expect the strings to deteriorate and tear where the sparks happen.

Instead of a swatted you could use something like the electric zapper cages for insects, or even a lithium ion battery bank. Only problem with that is you would have to charge the piano, but it would make it so that there are no wires for the technician to spot when trying to figure out what you did. You could use something like rc car batteries.

It would be cool if you could create an arc between the strings and hammer, or make bigger sparks
@deadpotatos70772 жыл бұрын
while it would be cool, the voltage to do that would be likely rather deadly, because of the way arcs and sparks work

I wonder if it's possible to do it so you get it to spark without being touched, so the spark itself plays the string
@mts.camilo2 жыл бұрын
With a sufficiently high voltage, it’s rather feasible. The only problem I see, apart from safety (but he’s an engineer, he’s got this covered), is that the arc might hit random notes besides the intended ones

nice test. interesting new concept here, would be dangerous but cool, good luck mattias.
@205badger32 жыл бұрын
Instead of the hammer you could have a butcher glove, like chainmail gloves. Then you could play the guitar with sparks flying. It should actually be doable safely, since current takes the path of least resistance. Just have some insulation under the glove. Probably better and safer to switch around so you have ground in the gloves and live wire in the guitar though. Try to get Electroboom to collab with you.

One idea would be that the frame of the piano would be connected to ground and high frequency and high voltage would be applied to the hammers the could all be commoned together. This would make pretty arcs.

you know alot of old player pianos have a pedal for a harpsichord sound with a row of felt strands with metal end that hits the string. so if you put that in a piano and hook it up to positive then you wouldn't have to do it on the hammer pianos!

Have a look at Franzoli Electronic channel. He uses flyback transformers to create butiful arcs that are PWM controlled and make music by them self (not Tesla coils). That would be beautiful on a piano(strings) where the arc plays a different tune to you hitting te snares with the hamers?
@Mnnvint2 жыл бұрын
You can maybe use the arc itself to make sound, we all know thunder has a great, rolling bass sound so it should get possible to get different pitches out of it.

I would be concerned about a potential fire hazard with doing this with more power inside a wooden piano with things like the padding and whatnot which could all potentially catch easily. fire retardants on the surfaces inside the piano and a fire extinguisher on standby may be apt precautions
