This story broke my heart. For me, this is the best game of 2022 and one of my favorite games in the world. I lost count of how many times I cried during the playthrough and editing.

I will never be the same after playing these games. Requiem was one of the saddest things I’ve ever experienced. This game series deserves every award. I feel so bad for Amicia. I don’t know if there should even be a third game. That ending was absolutely devastating.

Never really looked into A Plague Tale until yesterday. After just seeing both Innocence and Requiem, I wish I did so A LOT earlier. Like others have said, the story is amazing and that ending is incredible. Truly beautiful.

The last game franchise that had such a profound effect on me was metal gear. I remember being around 7 years old when i played it for the first time ( started with mgs2 sons of liberty) and i spent the remainder of my time up untill now (25) trying to find a game that provided the same feeling metal gear gave me. Very few games came close to that mark, the last of us being a top contender. But boy... when i say these 2 games broke me its an understatement. That final objective in Requiem, i must have sat there in my chair for about 20/30 minutes just refusing to do what i knew the game was asking of me. Walking back the oppositite way? Did it. Firing my sling into every single object except *you know what*? Did it. That final sling shot made me cry harder than i ever did before because of a video game. I may be so bold as to say (and i feel bad for saying it, because metal gear WAS my childhood) a plague tale is THE best game franchise i have played in my 20 odd years of gaming. Hugo is not dead as long as i remember him😢

One of the problems telltale walking dead games fans had with season 3 was when they changed the art style. They didn’t connect with Clementine anymore because of how the game looked, how she looked, sounded and behaved and she even still sounded like Clementine just a colder version which was justified by the time skip. Now fast forward to plague tale and its sequel. There is no significant time jump. Amicia is still chronologically a child given that it’s 6 months later. But she looks like an adult and sounds like an adult. A lot of the charm that came from the first game was that it was a kids adventure. The characters reacted like how kids would react in that world. They tried in the sequel but in the same way someone’s accent might slip from to time and that can be jarring in movies and other mediums is the way that the characters went in and out of sounding or behaving like kids, making for a jarring experience and the change of accents was the exclamation mark of the new direction the developers were taking with the story and characters. To me I found it disrespectful to the fans/player. It insults their intelligence. It’s like saying give them pretty graphics and over blown spectacle set pieces and they will either fail to notice or they won’t care. “Give them bread and circuses and they will never revolt” Yeah! The dude who said that thought little of the people too.🤷

This video only highlights how different the characters sound and look in the 2 games. Even this video is jarring as fuck. They seem like complete different people. If a blind man was listening to this video they would assume they were different characters with requiem having a new carrier and protector.

Requiem has beautiful graphics but that’s not my Amicia and that’s not my Hugo. In Requiem they seem completely different. Amicia sounds and acts like Rey from starwars and much as I love Daisey Ridley, I hated Rey. I actually found Hugo more annoying in the 2nd game, he was kind of a smart arse know it all. Like he was Yoda with this over night wisdom that had him talking down to Amicia like he thought she was slow. He started to sound like Bran the 3 eyed raven from game of thrones. Yeah! Requiem was shit. Just pretty graphics and over the top set pieces. A game trying to compete with the uncharted games. The game lost its own identity and had no soul, like the tomb raider reboot uncharted clone that came before it. Innocence is by far the tighter game. It’s more concise, better paced, more emotional to me for the simple reason the characters are more believable as kids. Amicia uses brain over brawn to progress, dispatching of enemies from distance and even at the end of innocence she still can’t go toe to toe with the guards, she just uses her ranged weapon faster, in the second one she’s having sword duals, getting stabbed multiple times and shrugging it off,keeping it in spirit of its true spiritual predecessor, the rebooted Star Wars movies and she doesn’t look like kid at all, she looks like she’s in her 20s. The game was over the place and the writers didn’t know where to go from the first game so they ended up everywhere, retconned the first game, soft rebooted it giving the players what is really a reimagining of plague tale with a new take on the characters. The first game came pretty close to being a master piece. My biggest problem with it was the combat and how the controls could be temperamental particularly with the sling mechanic that would sometimes work and sometimes fail, having guard side stepping attacks closing distance and killing you when the animation for the targeting system failed or the projectiles hit the enemies but didn’t effect them. When I go back to innocence from Requiem I definitely appreciate it a lot more, from how the characters look and sound, the mood ant atmosphere of the more stylised word of the first game. I can appreciate the artistic design choice. Requiem is generic.
