The 70's Rams beat the Steelers more often than not. Actually, the Rams have more victories overall against the Steelers over the course of several decades. The Cowboys only beat the 70's Steelers once in that decade.

That took more guts than anything of him! But, his team did make the Super bowl unexpectedly so the sacrifice worked out for his team and for himself. Absolute legend! (Essentially reduces John Wayne at his peak to nothing in seconds basically on that)

You're right, it felt like it was destined for the Rams. As a Cowboys fan, I'll never forget Jack Youngblood playing on what they didn't know at the time was a broken leg. He wanted it. As disappointed as I was in this loss, I was more hurt when the Rams lost to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.

Long awaited joy? You completely forgot the Rams did the exact same thing in 1976 - beating favored Dallas in Dallas 14-12 to advance to the NFC Championship. And the Rams beat the Vikings in 1978 34-10 to advance to the NFC Championship though that was an easy win. Prior to that you guys were the Vikings bitch - you lost in 1968, 1974, 1976, and 1977. By the 1978 NFC title game, the Rams were so spooked that even though they had home field advantage they wore white jerseys at home to break their jinx. That jersey BS doesn't work and they lost 28-0. The Cowboys did the same thing in Super Bowl V by wearing their blue jerseys to break their supposed jinx as if the jersey had something to do with it. They still lost. The Broncos wore white in Super Bowl 50 to break their orange jersey jinx and they did win but give me a break. It means nothing. As to this game, amazing that the Hail Mary at the end of the half was the difference. Of all the Rams teams to get to a Super Bowl it was the 9-7 one. But the Steelers were not going to lose to a 9-7 team with Ferragammo. No siree Bob.

As an Eagles fan I know how you feel. The Eagles beat the cowboys next year in Philadelphia to go to their first superbowl only to lose by the mighty Raiders.

Yeah, Youngblood wins the awards for the toughest and most stubborn player of all time. He had his fibula snapped in half, yet came back out to finish this game, played in the conference championship game and Super Bowl XIV, AND played in the Pro Bowl.

Fox started the practice of having a constant score grpahic on the screen when they got the nfc package in 1994. NBC was the last holdout, didnt adopt the practice until the early 2000's, but before they got the nfl back with the sunday night game.

I to remember that game was only 9 years old and barely getting to know football and asking my dad who to go for rams of course we where from L.A i think fans are different know going for other teams.. even if yo have a home team...i am sure clad the RAMS came back to home to L.A where they belong........

I despise Staubach so for me this is wonderful. I used to enjoy him losing to the Steelers. Though I must say that I don't despise Staubach nearly as much as I do Le Woke Claims.

Me too, but in hindsight the loss isn’t as shocking. The 1979 season was chaotic for Dallas. Ed Jones retired to Box. Charlie Waters missed the entire season with a knee injury. Thomas Henderson was kicked off of the team in November. Dallas literally lost the strong side of their defense that year. The 1979 team wasn’t as strong as the ‘’77 and ‘78 squads. In fact, I think the ‘79 Cowboys and ‘79 Rams were among the weakest teams either franchise fielded in the 1970s.

Staubach suffered a concussion in this game. He hit his head on the turf on the go ahead TD throw to Saldi in the 2nd half. It didn’t knock him out, but it did affect him. Here’s a quote from him about the 1979 playoff loss from 12/11/2015 article in the NY Daily News. “It wasn’t like my normal bad concussion, but if definitely screwed me up. I wasn’t myself. So afterwards I was really thinking about retiring.” I’m sure that made throwing the football a little more difficult on that last drive 😔
