Great video, my idea is kind off wild. But removing the whole modchip or replace it with a other working modchip?? I know way to much work, but like you said mabey the chip it self is faulty. Also Also you seem to get more confident with the camera :) On the hot glue, i remember there was a modding service in the US that had a bad reputation and used hot glue like crazy. Voultar spoke about it on his Twitter account recently. So the change is big that this console went trough that service.

I had thought about starting the console over from scratch with a modbo chip. I did see some of those videos from Voultar. I remember getting upset watching them, as its such a pain to work on consoles like that.

@@RetroRenegadeRepairs The hot glue modder his name was Drakon, if you search on Drakon console mod you be in for a treat :) If i am not mistaken the MoBo chips are Matrix Infinithingie clones and should work like a charm. Looking forward to the follow up.

That wasn’t Drakon. The works too clean. A lot of people were using hot glue back then.

yeah def try the firmware updates first, I think that's the easiest move. does it work if you swap out the optical drive? I'd assume it's the modchip too but maybe a redherring

I did try some different lasers with the same result. I'll give the DMS firmware a try, thanks.

Does it even need a mod chip now a days?

I personally don't think so. That said, there are plenty of people out there that like their legacy disc media and they do want region free as well.

Not really, what with FMCB. But, I enjoy installing them and routing the wires neatly and "artistically".
