Thanks for this Joel. I became convinced of the postmil position in late 2019--just in time for the apocalypse, lol. I like these couple of points you made help to succinctly state the postmil case: - While both premils and postmils think Christ wins, the postmil think Christ wins through His church, while the premil thinks Christ wins in spite of the church. - The Bible clearly says that all enemies will be defeated before He comes. So when He does come, there will be only one enemy remaining. Both are great points direct from Scripture.

Dear brother, thank you so much. I am greatly encouraged to hear your proclamation of our victorious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I don't know of anyone else in my church or immediate circle who believes in Christ's triumph through the Church. This conversation truly encouraged me. One of my recent thoughts has been the Proto-evangelium. The crushing of the Serpent necessitates the destruction of his power over death if this Great Promise is to have any meaning. In light of the Fall, the devil's power of death is fundamentally his power to deceive. Christ has fulfilled the Great Promise! Our ancient nemesis has been crushed! He is no longer free to deceive the nations. All glory, honor, and praise be to our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ!

@Eric_Lichtenberg
@Eric_Lichtenberg Жыл бұрын
@@2008betwixt There exists both an immediate and an ultimate, eschatological fulfillment of the Proto-evangelium. Hebrews 2:10-16 NASB95 - For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, “I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE.” And again, “I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM.” And again, “BEHOLD, I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME.” Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. Revelation 20:10 NASB95 - And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 1 Corinthians 15:50-58 NASB95 - Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

The point that the devil is a creature and is not omniscient nor omnipresent is an important one. And your admonition about "the devil made me do it", don't flatter yourself, you've never run into him is exactly right. Nearly all temptation and all sin is born of our corrupt natural hearts. As Jesus said it's not what goes into a man that defiles him, but that which proceeds from his own heart that defiles him.

Our experience in the Church can and does shape how we see God and the power of the Holy Spirit to revive the Saints individual but to also revive the Church. I believe God is awakening His Church one saint at a time, and I see that you have a greater view of God, that you see the Christian life with a new clarity and a greater view of God. God awakens us by the Holy Spirit, to a new Love of God and His Word and realization that all things are possible with God. The gift of faith, believing what others have not yet seen, but a unstoppable desire to be used by God to awaken His Church. Keep trusting and depending on God, I enjoy watching God awaken men eager to be used by God.

I believe in the historical view of revelation. That is, the one in which Martin Luther and the other reformers recognized that the Roman Catholic Church was the fulfillment of Mystery Babylon and the office of the papacy was the fulfillment of the man of sin/son of perdition and that they did their best to snuff out the true saints and the scriptures (the two witnesses) for the 1260 years that they ruled over Rome (538 a.d. - 1798 a.d.). Prior to that the Roman Empire persecuted the saints from the time that Jesus died and resurrected up until 476 a.d. when the empire collapsed. GIven all of that persecution, I just can't see how there was ever a time where anyone was resurrected and sitting on thrones and judging after having been beheaded due to not taking the mark of the beast. Since the beast is the RCC / papacy (in my view), and it didn't start until between the 4th and 6th centuries. Let me say further that if it is true that this 1000 years began at Christ's resurrection, it seems clear to me from the state of the world, that we are now in the season in which Satan has been release again to deceive. I am currently leaning towards premillennial view, based upon a plain reading of the text. Another reason is as follows: From the historical view timeline, we are between the 6th and 7th bowls in terms of fulfillment and the Earth has been around for almost 6000 years. This would put the 1000 literal years as the sabbath millennium. Some put the 6000th year at around 2055 a.d.

I'd push back a bit and ask how you interpret "bound" and why? There are many different types of bondage. One could be so bound up that they can't move a single muscle. Or they can be on a leash such that they can go anywhere and do anything as long as it is within the circle of the leash. Or one can have a ball and chain that allows them to go anywhere, but it puts a bound on their top speed. When I see people raising the bondage objection, I think they have in mind a particularly restrictive type and aren't considering the full range of that word. From a Postmil perspective, Satan can deceive and work mischief, but he is no longer able to work at such a large scale that whole nations are deceived. And, it seems to men that many are giving too little credit to the wickedness of man and are trying to shift the blame to Satan like Eve did.

One of my thoughts recently has been the Proto-evangelium. If this Great Promise is to have any meaning in the context of the Garden, it is necessarily a promise to crush the Serpent's power of death. Based on the narrative of the Garden, this power of death is fundamentally the power to deceive. Therefore, the Proto-evangelium was the promise that THE Truth would conquer THE Liar.

I am only 2 years coming back to my childhood faith. I feel like I'm still crawling trying to l3arn to walk with our Lord. Decernment is so difficult for me, do many views I was unaware of all the different perspectives the Calvinisim, the views on Mell. The post, pre, awe, the Rapture, views on tribulation. The Hollywood Theology was the only Theology I knew the Apple in the garden , the flood of 2 animals each, people vanishing out of thier clothing! A man in a whale! I remember sitting in the pew next to my grandmother and being in awe of all the mystery and I truly brought that childhood cut and polished outlook on Christianity with me when I came home to our Lord. I feel into a charismatic church and felt right away where is Jesus where is my salvation I knew pretty quickly this was wrong, yet fir the past year and a half I've struggled with sorting through all of the rest. I have no place , I flip flop in a Methodist church and Baptist and I find allot wrong with the teachings in both. I find so much hope in PostMill eschatology, which has also spilled over into my sanctification. So I'm thankful to God through watching the conversation with Jeff Durbin you had which explained so much, I listened to it twice over. I only have one question, can you help me understand the difference between Postmill and the dominion theology (7 mountain theory) ? Joel, this topic deserves a redo. I say this because it seems that, on a partial-preterist view of Revelation, the activities of Satan and his followers since the time of the death and Resurrection of Christ are vastly different than prior to that time. Some would say that Satan is bound in chains until the time of the end. This would have HUGE implications on our understanding of principalities and powers coming against Christians and the Church.

Thanks, Mr. Joel. I started a very similar journey about 2 years ago and am loving the ride. Jordan Peterson got me thinking about what love really is. Not just being "sweet," but even the hard parts. Thankfully, Christ had made his claim on me and I knew it was much deeper than just some jungian philosphy. Then I became interested in the concept of medieval chivalry and a time where Christ and scripture was taken so seriously that it shaped more than just a persons private actions. That lead me to start reading and watching what sounds like the same people you read, watch, and talk to, as well as yourself of course. It's great to be thinking through something for days and then see you've made a video of it. Even St George and the dragon. I see it's the image for your conference. I have made a "tract" using that same image for the theological story it can tell. Please keep going.

@jameslogan6286
@jameslogan6286 Жыл бұрын
@@michaellautermilch9185 yeah sadly the more accurate meaning of the phrase has been obscured by the newer one assigned to it. To be honest, I’m kind of wondering where that caricature of chivalry came from. In my reading of different texts, I haven’t come across too much literature contemporary to the medieval era that actually does display chivalry that way. If you look at the manual for actual chivalry by the knight, Geoffroi de Charny (1304-1356) and another book on the order of chivalry by another Knight named Ramon Llull(1232-1316), then You see that there’s actually very little in it about pledging undying loyalty to a woman, but more about loyalty and honor to authorities, following Christ, piety towards God, and fighting evil. What’s even stranger is that in one of the most popular accounts of King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable, Le Morte d’ Arthur (1470), written by another knight named Sir Thomas Malory, there is surprisingly little of the knights obsessing over women, but instead jousting, honor, and brotherhood. I legitimately thought it would be so much more considering the definition that we are given these day. If you want to see more about it, I’m trying to get a blog in this very theme going. It's interesting that so many people use the sigh on Jonah to be referring to Jesus death, burial and resurrection, when the sign of Jonah to Nineveh was "Repent or your city will be destroyed". Jesus preached repentance for 3 days and 3 nights (check the gospels, Luke 19:41-21:37, compare with others for a timeline) in the heart of the land (Jerusalem) prior to His capture, and Jesus's generation did not repent. Therefore, Jerusalem would be destroyed (40 years later instead of 40 days). Jonah went to preach repentance to the heart of the land of Assyria, the great city Nineveh, which was a 3 day journey. Jonah 3 3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, [a]a three-day journey in extent. 4 And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” So many people try to force Christ resurrection as a "sign" to the wicked a adulterous generation when it's not necessary. The sign of Jonah that Jesus said His adulterous generation would see was the destruction of their city because they did not repent; this has nothing to do with His resurrection. This actually is a positive for postmillennialism because the great signs and wonders that occurred at AD70 would have been a visual sign to THAT generation. We know Jesus died on Friday night and rose Sunday morning, that's 36 hours. People try to do all kinds of mental gymnastics with time reckoning to try and fit Jonah with Jesus resurrection because they have been told all their lives that's what the sign is about. People get hung up on "the heart of the earth/land"; they think this means a burial grave in the dirt, THAT, is your assumption. We have a modern term or phrase that is not used in modern speech, "heartland"; it just means the central place of any country, usually the greatest and most well known city. Just as Jonah preached repentance for three days and three nights to Nineveh, the heart of the land of Assyria, so too did Jesus preach repentance for three days and three nights to Jerusalem, the heart of the land of Israel. Nineveh will judge Jesus's generation because they repented at the preaching of Jonah, but an even greater than Jonah came and they did not repent. Luke 11:29-32 29 And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah [a]the prophet. 30 For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation. 31 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. Luke 19:41-47 41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, 44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” 45 Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who [h]bought and sold in it, 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house [i]is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ” 47 And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him, 48 and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him. But as always, people are so convinced that the sign of Jonah is Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection, AND IT CANNOT BE AYTHING ELSE BECAUSE I MUST PROVE JESUS'S RESURRECTION, they will ignore the text for the sake of their belief. Meanwhile skeptics (me once upon a time), Judaism, and Muslims alike mock Christians with the sign of Jonah because, like I just pointed out, they too know how to read and know that Jesus was not buried for 3 days and 3 nights. Jonah did not physically die nor was he physically resurrected; stop reading this onto the text. Stop with this infatuation. The "proof" that Jesus has resurrected and sitting at the right hand of God is not an empty tomb; it's the destruction of Jerusalem that He said would happen and the signs of His coming judgement of Jerusalem. The empty tomb is just icing on top of the cake. His coming to destroy Jerusalem that occurred 40 years later proves Jesus's empty tomb because clearly He is at the right hand of God JUST AS HE SAID HE WOULD BE. Matthew 26:64 NKJV Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Imagine a world if Christians actually stopped forcing the sign of Jonah with His resurrection and used it properly.

Satan isnt bound just yet.
@blaziustheblaze9935
@blaziustheblaze9935 11 ай бұрын
The glaring problem with all of this is that Scripture unequivocally refutes the idea that the devil is currently bound. Look at 1 Peter 5:8-9: "Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith." That phrase "prowls around" is the Greek verb peripateó, meaning to walk about, conduct your life, to walk at large, going in a complete circuit. The verb is a present active indicative, showing that the action happens in the present time. Look also at the verb "seeking" in Peter's verse above. It too is a present active verb meaning that the devil is currently doing it. He is free to prowl around seeking his next victim. Prisoners cannot do this. If Satan is currently bound, Peter's charge to "resist him, firm in your faith" is baseless. James tells us, "Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you" (Ja 4:7). The verb "resist" is an aorist imperative active, a command that is expected to be followed as an ongoing process. In other words, resist the devil, and keep resisting the devil and he will flee from you. But why would James give this command if the devil is already bound? Paul warns in Ephesians 4:27, "Do not give the devil an opportunity." How can the devil find opportunities if he's bound? Paul says to "Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil" (Eph 6:11). Why put on the armor of God if the devil is bound? None of the armor makes sense if Satan is currently in chains. And another verse showing that Satan is still loose in this world is 1 John 4:4. "You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." (See also Acts 26:18; 1Co 5:5, 7:5; 2Co 2:11, 4:4, 11:14, 12:7; Eph 6:10-18; 2Th 2:9, 3:3; 1Ti 1:20, 5:15.) One can conclude through these verses and many more that Satan is not bound in respect to Revelation 20:1-3. Satan is seen to tempt, deceive, blind, buffet, hinder, work signs and lying wonders, to have children (i.e., unbelievers), to walk about seeking whom he may devour. Is this a picture of Satan bound? The obvious answer is that Satan is not bound in chains in any way, shape, or form. Moreover, if it can be shown that Satan is not currently bound, obviously there is no ground for the postmillennial position that we are currently in the millennial kingdom of God.

If 1 Cor 15:23-24 lists 3 events delineated by the word "then" in the format "A then B then C," and if A and B are separated by at least 40 years (in the case of full preterists), why must C "immediately" follow B? In other words, if the first then represents a substantial amount of time passing (40-2000+ years) why can the 2nd then not also?

That's another one of my hang-ups. In the Bible, when Christ does reign, there's true peace. I just think there's no way possible that this current reality is the millennial reign of Christ described in scripture. Update: for many years I've struggled with the postmill eschatology viewpoint as many of my friends are and much of the media I consume comes from folks in the postmill camp. I wanted to offer this update. This glorious news that as of July 6th 2022, I'm now postmill! The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, like a little leven, and like a stone cut without hands. It's a progressive coming to peace. Would you argue that things are worse than before or better? He reigns "until" He makes all His enemies a footstool. He is "making" all things new. If we are to disciple the nations and teach them to obey all of Christ's commands, a command of the resurrected Christ, do we as the Church fail to obey? Or does Christ accomplish this, a kingdom takeover, through the Church? Primarily, I view premil (which i grew up in) as a diminished view of who Christ is, what the gospel is to accomplish, the power of the Spirit, and the authority given to Christ. IMHO.
