Back when I was like 14-15, my cousin would ask me that all the time. So I asked her why she always asks me when she's such a social person and has loads of friends who would love to tell her what they thought. She told me it's because I'm not full of shit and actually tell her what I think.

I 100% get her. I'm incapable of being "politely nice" when I'm not interested in something. Usually I just avoid addressing it altogether to not bring down their mood. When it becomes unavoidable to say something though (like in a direct conversation), I'll have to try and find anything about it I can comment on in a positive light, like "interesting decision to do this thing that way; you don't see that often" or something... But it can happen that they specifically want to hear my direct opinion and I have to tell them that, "sorry, it's just not something that appeals to me personally". I'm aware what people want to hear, but I physically can't bring myself to fake interest - even if it would be in my best interest, like with my boss. Been called "blunt" and "negative" for that before, but on the other hand I've also had people tell me that they value my input a lot, because they know I won't sugarcoat things or try to suck up to them. So I don't see a reason to change.

This is kinda like a raised tolerance. Since there are so many girls and the lines of cute are subjective, her standard of cute may be simply different, or she's become numb to what is generally considered cute due to sheer over exposure. But FuwaMoco still hit that itch of cute that few could even do

This is a reason why it's hard to get along with everyone. We all have different tastes. If you are in a room with 10 other people who are excited about something you couldn't care less for, you'll have a hard time to express your honest thoughts about it if someone asks you. Usually i just reply honestly about it, but honesty usually makes you get pushed aside. Most people will probably just "read the room" and try to fit in, but that option usually just leads to your own unhappiness. When it comes to hololive you can see that all of the girls they seem to have great personalities but they're all different and you can see some get along better with others because of those similar tastes they share. I feel like Towa wants to please every hololive girl but she can't because she has different thoughts, taste about different subjects / things and doesn't feel right lying about liking something that she doesn't like / care for. Put it simply, Towa is cute and has good personality. Not very devilish behaviour from our cute purple devil.😆

Tbh, its normal reaction not to give people expected reaction for e.g negative or meh comment about what others like. I do this a lot and totally bogged my mind until I talked with my counsellor. They suggested its rather be honest and truer to yourself rather than lying. Its fine to say "not cute" or whatever not positive response, just dont degraded what people values.

Free bad advice from a passive guy who doesn't like to lie about things but also doesn't want to be rude: If this sort of thing happens you don't have to lie and say "Oh, I like it" when you don't, or you really don't care. Just make some kind of surface level observation about whatever it is, ask a simple question about it, and then let them fill in with their answer. They'll think you care enough about it to pay attention and ask a question about something that they like, and then they'll be happy to tell you about what they like about it, redirecting the question in their minds to one where they can continue to talk. Works every time, provided you're good at sounding vaguely interested or naively ignorant.

So for those of you who are like Towa, and want to be able to say the "right thing" without looking like a dick, try this: "oh! I'm so glad you like it!" It acknowledges their happiness at their new thing, but you're also not telling a lie to yourself by calling it cool/cute. Obviously, you wouldn't want to hurt their feelings by not liking the thing they like, and this is a good way to get around that by acknowledging the feelings themselves, not just the object of their affection. Even if you don't like it, you still like them and are happy for them; that's what matters the most.

big tip for other people in this boat: if you like, it: easy if you don't like it: say "hey, you seem really happy with this. good for you!" if they're simple in the head, they'll just take it as you saying something nice and move on. if they're smart they'll take the hint and leave it at that. if they're one of the unfortunate souls stuck in between, they'll dig their own graves by pushing you on your answer. literally asking you to tell them you think it sucks.

Basically Towa would rather tell the truth or feel a genuine connection to something in order to agree or comment on something, while Mio and Okayu prioritize boosting and protecting someone's confidence meaning they focus on the person who is asking rather than what is being asked. There is no right and wrong about this but it is just how they approach social interaction in their own way.
