Hi everyone, sorry this video is coming out a bit late - I didn't manage to get it edited in time before going away to the Isle of Wight festival this weekend! 🎸 I'm about to head over to the plot for the first time in over a week.. I can imagine a lot has grown with the warm weather that we've had over the weekend! 😅 (my lovely neighbour has been watering, so I'm sure it's all going to look great!). Will be uploading an end of June tour very soon, so stay tuned! Thanks so much for watching 💖💖💖

Well, the potatoes are certainly a success. Dinner will be nice tonight. Between the tomatoes and the peppers, you're on your way to a good set of ingredients for salsa. Add some onion, cilantro, and lime juice, and you'll have a great condiment for meats, egg, and cheese dishes. We eat a lot of salsa in Colorado because we really like Mexican food. Salsa and tortilla chips with some melted cheese becomes a great snack for movie nights.

Grass paths will look good but will be a lot of work for you, trimming around the raised beds (eventually damage the wood), cutting the grass bring/buy a battery petrol mower or a push reel mower but you will have to keep up to it. The weather has done wonders for the plants, it’s been great seeing my floral displays mature. Gave myself a pat on the back

Potato harvests are great aren’t they. It’s like a treasure hunt, you just don’t know what you’re going to find 😄 I’ve had a good harvest of my first earlies last week , I grow in containers, just tip them out rather than lots of digging about. Your crops are all looking amazing 👏🏻 I think your bird is a carrion crow, rooks have pale beaks, ravens usually have a bit of a ruff around the neck but it’s harder to tell them from crows but ravens do have a low distinctive cronk sound.

Oh Seren! Those potatoes just made my mouth water! LOL It's so great to have frogs and toads in the garden if you have slugs. You can often tell the difference between similar corvids, ie raven, rook or crow, by the size of the bird and thickness and shape of the beak. There is lots of info online. You can also control the size and development of powdery mildew by pruning off the oldest leaves or any that are damaged/yellowed as they no longer contribute to photosynthesis. Ladybugs lay their eggs on nettle....surprisingly! LOL What progress you have made! Congratulations!

Everything is looking soooo good Seren. You’ve done such an amazing job getting the plot sorted. An inspiration 😊 By the way, Jerusalem artichokes grow really tall when they’re planted in the soil. I didn’t realise how tall they grow and last year when they really got going I ended up with an eight foot tall barricade in the middle of my plot 😂 I meant to move them for this year but never got around to it 😮 ❤

Comment on the pathways - you mentioned leaving the grass/weeds, I think that’s not the best solution. The grass would have to be maintained, at least annually maybe more often. Plus the grass/weed seeds would blow into the beds and contribute to the weeds always being a problem. Bark mulch is more labor intensive at first but it a “done and dusted” solution. You are my favorite allotment KZfaqr! I have deleted all the others. You should be so proud of your allotment. It’s such a joy to see your progress. Keep up the good work ‼️

the allotment is looking really good. Digging the first potatoes of the year was always one of my favourite jobs of the year, especially when you find a good crop, and taste so much better than shop bought. The bird is a carrion crow, a rook is a similar size but has a bald grey patch around the bill, a raven would be considerably bigger with a really heavy bill

Hi Seren, the black bird is not a Raven. Ravens have a thicker beak and a scruffy look to the feathers and are the size of a buzzard. No mistaking one of those bad boys as they are massive. It's a crow. Rooks have a very straight longer beak which is a paler grey colour. Beautiful plot. Can't believe it's the same one.

What a difference from January 👏🐝it’s a big plot and a lot of work so well done 🐞could you plant sunflowers behind the green house, and next year maybe a clematis so you can’t see through 🪴if you want the weeding you do can be use as a mulch in the greenhouse pots for less watering, if you grow small bushy beans in pots and plant out I found that the slugs not interested in them like high beans and don’t need maintenance… do your sweet pea last in vases 👩‍🌾

Anyone who criticizes the number of squash and pumpkin plants needs to know that usually, you would direct sow 3-6 seeds in a single mound. A handful of plants spread out around your space is no big deal. (I start seeds and then plant out like you did, so I'm not criticizing how you did it either.)
@nitelite78
@nitelite78 3 күн бұрын
I actually think planting winter squash close is a good idea if it means smaller fruit. From a cooking point of view massive fruit can be a bit annoying because you can't eat it all before it starts going off. Last year I got several 5+kg Crown Prince squash and that is way too big to feed a small family. This year I have planted two Crown Prince plants right next to each other in the hope the fruit will be smaller. It probably doesn't matter for smaller fruiting varieties like Kuri.

I think Merlin would work on the video as well, I have tried that in the past. Also, what an amazing transformation you have managed with your plot!
