The Enemy of the World is amazing, and I completely agree that Patrick Troughton was the best actor to play the doctor. He was a method actor. He lived, ate, and breathed his characters. He was an acting genius in so many ways

You know what'd be interesting? If they had an "NTH" doctor special, where all the Doctors who aren't in the "Official" timeline show up. You can have Nicholas Briggs Doctor, David Banks Doctor, Richard E. Grant Doctor, A stand-in for the Peter Cushing Doctor...

On the Doctor being unwilling to kill in NuWho, I'd say that until Day of the Doctor, that's due to his experiences in the Time War and his (supposed) destruction of Gallifrey and the Daleks at once. Afterwards, the war probably continues to remain his motivation for doing his best to not kill anyone

Not to discredit, just in my personal opinion I think that the reason for having the Doctor dislike weaponry in New Who is due to the tragedy of what he did during the Time War. Maybe a sort of disgust for weaponry considering he used it to kill so many during the war and ultimately used a weapon to kill everyone but I could certainly be wrong about that. Just an opinion

While it isn't my favorite, when a Doctor Who fan tells me they're looking to check out the classic series, I recommend "Tomb of the Cybermen" to Eleventh Doctor fans because it's Matt Smith's favorite story.

I have been watching all of your Doctor Who content. I really love how you covered Classic Who. As a child I watched a lot of classic Who on PBS. (Late 80's/early 90's). I half remember a lot of the stories that you discuss.

In my opinion Tomb lived up to the Mythology that built up around it although David Bank's brilliant illustrated book evokes the scope of Telos more effectively than the confines of the studio ( and I sawe it when it was originally broadcast).

The Weed Monster from Fury is one of the monsters I'd love to see return in the New Show, but only if its handled by Steven Moffat, who has a knack for taking silly ideas like killer statues and shadows and making them terrifying!

The Fury from the deep audio tape with Tom Baker narration was the first Doctor Who thing I bought as a fan back in the 90s. It was so good! Got chewed up though. Gutted!

Despite that bad science moment you listed, I still like the Ice Warriors, fun story with really cool monsters. The Ice Warriors themselves are excellent, big armor plated gator men from Mars with sonic based weaponry, what's not to like about that? >8D I hope the Ice Warriors show up again in New Who, I enjoyed "Cold War" for the most part, & the introduction of Skaldak, who's design remained very true to the original Ice Warriors...Despite giving him three fingers instead of the traditional claws/clamps (a more forgivable change than what they did to the poor SIlurians...Ugh...). P.S. I also enjoyed Tomb of the Cybermen, Web of Fear, & Enemy of the World, feel lucky to have several of Troughton's stories on DVD :3

Enemy Of The World was really good to me. As much as I personally like ALL the actors to play The Doctor...yeah, none of them could've pulled that off quite like Troughton. I mean Tom Baker? Sylvester McCoy? David Tennant? Matt Smith? Peter Davison? If any of them did it, it would've been a laugh riot!

The Sonic Screwdriver in New Who gets a pass for the lights but gets a thumbs down for making it a damn magic wand. I liked Capaldi's Sonic Shades simply because they seemed powered down when compared to modern screwdrivers. But great to come back and revisit your reviews of my favorite Doctor's era.

I don't know, I think David Tennant could have pulled off Enemy of the World. The others, yeah, probably not. Some like Sylvester McCoy would have been too hard to tell apart from the villain, and I doubt many could EVER see Tom Baker playing a villain

Were these filmed in 2013? You mentioned the DVDs weren’t released yet but by the time the video came out they were old news.

w/ the Silence tho it's p weird because their motives were unclear at best (I think they killed one person?) and the Doctor's p much giggling at the whole genocide thing.

Actually it has been discovered since this video was made that plants release up to 30% more carbon dioxide than previously thought. Was Clent saying that the plants were removed to make space for human habitation or some such and that caused the drop in CO2, in which case this is quite correct. I haven't watched this story in years so I can't remember. But anyway, the Doctor would have understood the carbon cycle better than you primitives back in 2015!

I wasn't a huge fan of Fury From the Deep, though the lack of footage could have contributed to my distaste for it. I guess this was when I was starting to get sick of the base-under-siege structure, especially when it involves a man in charge who just screams like a petulant child and hates the Doctor for no real reason.

Now to be fair to New Who's pseudo-pacifism thing, the Time War probably took its toll on the Doctor, something that might have even shaken him right to the very core of his being and persisted even through regeneration. He still has moments where his emotions get the best of him or he has no other choice, but being the direct cause of his own species's pseudo-extinction might make him a bit more wary about taking lives. Or it could be crap writing. I'm hardly an expert on the show or the psychology of a species of practically immortal people whose brains rewire themselves every time they come back to life.
