Those layered cropped slacks are amazing. I probably would have found a shirt I was comfortable tucking into the slacks make more of the slacks visible. But that's the only thing I would change. Love the idea of this series and would love to see more.

Awesome! Definitely into the idea of this series. I also need to start looking harder for that Yohji layered/cropped look at a more…modest budget level. 😉

we need a vid about rings, jewlery etc (would also be nice if you talked about wearing it with low key clothing too for the people that just use some aspects of the "yohji" style)

Love ur style but the blue color sweater is a personal taste so for me either black or khaki color to fit it better or even has knitted graphic design too to add more of a conversation starter kind of thing. Favourite fashion youtube, keep going man.

1) I need the source & make-up of your thermal. 2) The outfit showcased is good, especially stepping out with the blue, but would absolutely smash with all black.

I have the same Yohji wrap pants and I have struggled to find the right footwear to pair with it, what really helped me with the video you made was seeing the proportions. Breaking down the idea behind it was the cherry on top. Thank you. Also, the song at 3:50, name please!

The outfit is so cool! Simple yet complex and I think you pulled it off very well. The shoes are maybe a bit too extravagant for my taste but thats just me .

The long shirt and the cropped pants combo isn't for me, proportions feel off but if it fits you then that's good

Was it difficult finding a jacket of the same black as the pants? They seem to match perfectly. I'm happy to get a more detailed look at those pants. They're really cool. I'm thinking the bag might be too heavy for me. It looks heavy even when there's nothing in it.

OK. First I'm female and am looking at the outfit from a different eye. I'm very used to layering clothes as it's common in women's clothing. I could see myself styling this outfit for my own wear as it's quite unisex, but minus the hat and a few other features. Whenever pants are short and full like a pant skirt, but mid calf, then I go with a shorter version of a top. My height is a little over 5 feet 6 inches (170cm) and I'm a U.S. size 8 and 10 in clothing. So, I would wear the same pieces and also color of the sweater, but with a much shorter sweater. I could also wear a sweater in either black, white, or khaki tan to change out the look from time to time and probably a sweater with a very slight pattern or if no pattern then some type of texture. And in warm/hot weather, I would wear a really cool T-shirt, but tucked in. While in Japan, a few summers back, I bought a similar pant skirt by Yohji Yamamoto, but in the women's department. It was a natural linen color and I styled the piece with a short, crisp white linen top. And sometimes I tuck in the top and wear a belt over the pant skirt. Short top or tucked-in top gives a more elongated and less choppy look. And I wear either flat shoes, low top sneakers, or sneaker type footwear with a pant skirt that is mid-calf. Now, if I'm wearing a regular length skirt, like right above the knee, then I can wear it with a longer sweater and as for footwear either sneakers, mid-calf boots, or knee boots as the proportions will be right on point. Greetings from Los Angeles

I find your styling highly intriguing because it highlights the fundamental differences in how western dress and Japanese dress differ. Neither is wrong but it has caught my attention on how so many opt for a cropped or tucked in shirt to highlight the trousers more or to separate the halves of the body. This preference can be traced back to the iconic 'New Look' by Christian Dior, which immortalized a silhouette emphasizing wider busts and hips, creating a distinct division between the upper and lower halves of the body-a staple in traditional Western fashion. Contrastingly, Japanese fashion adopts a more rectangular silhouette. This is exemplified in traditional garments like the kimono, which emphasize an elongated torso without cinching the waist. This approach is starkly different from the Western focus on waist definition. A perfect illustration of this contrast can be seen in the styling choices on THESHOPYOHJIYAMAMOTO.com. Here, almost none of the showcased products feature shorter or tucked-in shirts. Instead, the preference leans towards a longer, more maximalist drape This styling choice aligns with the general aesthetic principles of the region, deeply rooted in the historical evolution of Japanese dress. The traditional kimono, for instance, despite being separated by an obi, never truly emphasizes a slim waist, but rather extends the torso's appearance. Which has a lot to do with the general body type of Japanese people. This preference for a more elongated form in Japanese fashion is often designed to highlight the nuances of movement and fluidity. A classic example in Yohji Yamamoto's collections would be the ensemble of a long, slightly opened shirt extending past the waist, paired with a similarly lengthy overcoat, complemented by trousers (no matter the crop) and high ankle boots. This combination exemplifies the fundamental difference in aesthetic philosophies between Western and Japanese fashion traditions, with the latter emphasizing subtlety and fluidity in contrast to the more structured and defined forms of the former.

I agree that the styling can be different due to cultures. I've been wearing Issey, Yohji, and other Japanese designers since the early 1980s and with a lot of layered looks. I still have my Issey Miyake Collection from back when Issey was still designing. I've been back and forth to Asia, usually Southeast Asia though, and regularly since the late 1990s and have also been specifically in Japan at times as well as on other continents, aside from Asia, since the 70s. I check out styling in other cultures and while in Japan also wear kimono from time to time.. But, since I still live here full-time and am wearing clothing in this country and other Western countries, I sometimes style differently than I would if/when I'm in different parts of the world. So, as for your outfit pieces which I like, if I were to wear the same pieces or similar ones and on a female body, I would style them differently. To each his own. There's no right or wrong to this equation. Greetings from Los Angeles @@THECASUALco

during the method you mentioned the difference between wearing for showcase and wearing for daily use, but I still really want to see you do a video on the showy and overdone side of japanese fashion. Theres plenty of people out there across the globe who have become used to crazy outfits to the point where it's their daily

Here’s the thing. That’s REALLY off-brand for us. I mean we are “THECASUAL”. It’s our belief that Japanese fashion has fallen under a certain mysticism that creates a misrepresentation of the reality and if we feed into it we miss out on what actually makes Japanese fashion special: the culture infused into it. Part of the reason THECASUAL was created was to be a sort of balance in contrast to outlets like TokyoFashion and the numerous other outlets that cover the ostentatious. These networks covered it so much that they began repeating the same individuals in their photo ops and followers of those networks began to know the models by name and affiliation! The reality is much of Japanese fashion IS what we talk about. The less bombastic, the subtlety in the everyday. Taking the bold and MAKING it an everyday thing. It’s the reason Yohji, Issey, Rei, Kenzo and all of the second generation have a standardized aesthetic. It’s uniform. Our goal has always been to insure that the vast majority of “under covered” styles and products get their time in the sun. Every now and then we may throw a branch out to the crazy but our stomping grounds are in THECASUAL.

@@THECASUALco i totally get it now! Always wondered why u never covered them in detail but i appreciate you sticking to the actual casualness of your brand. my problem with other outlets is I never get to see them cover flashy styles with same nuance and background that you do for more heritaged japanese fashion, which is why i hoped you'd give more attention to it, but i definitely see the reason behind avoiding it to some degree

Loved the ensemble: the trousers are beyond fabulous and look great on u . Not quite sure about the bag and hat ( bag I feel is too big and I think you look super cool just with the shades and without the hat … although hat is necessary when weather gets cooler ) . Enjoyed enormously your video … and my comments are just to establish a connection .. 👍🥂
