I'm ready to get one. Looking at Samurai. Now that you have mentioned the aging process, it reminds me of Japanese Silver like Goro's, First Arrows, Tady King, etc. Owners would never polish out the tarnish. The darkening actually accentuates the texture and details.

If you live in America, all those designers and artisans learned about silver oxidation from Native Americans. You don’t need Goro’s when you have an endless supply of Native Americans that do the same work. To this day Japanese import more Native American silver work than actual Americans buy it.

Truth. I have a little collection of vintage stuff. Etsy alone has tons of this stuff. Some great pieces. Estate sale resellers, for instance. No need to overspend.

Great video! Japanese denim was honestly how I first got into fashion (and I didn’t even think of it that way back then) with Naked and Famous jeans and an Oni denim jacket that I still love to put on. Very cool to hear your thoughts on how it’s a reflection of Japanese culture and tradition

Japanese denim is so interestin i have 3 Oni kiraku denim. It starts off hard and hairy but softens quickly woth wear. It's lightweight and you can see light through it. Warehouse washed denim based off vintage levis. Its very soft and the fading effect is much nicer than standard washed jeans Warehouse white/undyed denim. It has a hard surface and a ecru colour with brown cotton seed flecks coming out of it.

Japanese selvedge denim has elevated my style to such a degree, I can never go to anything of lesser quality. I have 18, that's right, 18 pairs of selvedge denim (14 Japanese, 4 American), and growing, with two more limited editions from Samurai, on their way.

I wish I had looked for denim pieces on my trips to Japan, pre-pandemic, but I was shopping different fashion items at that time. But, I plan to get back to Japan at some point. great episode with a great message. brings me back to the days of Dior "MIJ" denim nerds lol ive got all sorts of lower and mid tier japanese denim (none of which fit me anymore because the idea was to size down a bit and have the jeans shape to your frame) but one pair of no name 21oz denim that took me forever to wear in. 21oz is a *little* overboard admittedly lol but they are intact and look great

No no no! He’s embracing change in how the fax machine is changing! One year it rattles, the next it turns a yellowish hue, clearly too old to be used efficiently, but the beauty of it’s inevitable demise is to be witnessed and appreciated!

This video was class man. Thank you. Started my journey with some Brave Stars where they sourced the 18oz fabric from Japan. Epic fades three years on and still very much alive. Then Nudie's Japan selvedge which are incredibly well made. Then bought some Kamikaze Attack for my first pair of true Japanese jeans. Again, faded beautifully. Now I have some IH iod where the fabric is dense but incredibly soft. The construction is next level. I also picked up their CPO shirt which again is gorgeous. Most recently is my Tanuki type II. The fabric has so much character. The attention to detail on the stitching, and the consideration and care given to everything from the colour of thread used, to the detail on the buttons is truly remarkable. It's a wonderful rabbit hole I've fallen down. I'll make perhaps two purchases this year - PBJ jeans probably next. And I'll keep an eye out for any Momotaro Sashiko runs in the next 18 months. Then I'm finished for a good while. Thank you.

Thx for the video but FYI Pinot noir is a grape varietal ( used in Bourgogne and Champagne for instance ) and Bordeaux is a region and a wine AOC . Consequently it is kind like comparing apples and oranges

I really wanted a pair of Japanese denim but I was so afraid of the price as far as shopping online. Went to visit some friends in Baltimore, realized there was a selvedge denim shop right down the street from his place only open on weekends so I said I have to go. I tried on a handful of pairs until I landed on a pair that felt so good. Loved the color the fit, the small details. TCB Catboy (the 2 cats brands) I wore them a number of times just waiting to eventually see the signs of wear, sadly the pandemic hit shortly after. They sat in the closet because I went nowhere but work and back home. By the time it was over (for the most part) I had gained weight. Enough that they no longer fit the same. They were actually UNCOMFORTABLE at that point. I thought about holding on, thinking maybe I’ll shed it all and wear them again. Ultimately I decided to list them on Grailed, not for a crazy price but enough to not kick myself for spending on them in the first place. At least I know now that someone is enjoying them the way they were meant to be enjoyed. I might jump back in at some point but for now I’m admiring from afar. Baltimore Selvedge if anyone is in MD looking to buy some in person. Guy who owns it does it as a passion project which is why the hours are weird but he’s a cool guy. TCB is great too! Give them a chance! Thanks for reading. 😄

@@Imreal66 you will get some indigo transfer regardless of brand. I would say it would be most notable on white leather or furniture...as well as white sneakers. Your hands will also pick up some dye throughout the day...so don't be concerned if your hands are blue lol. In my experience the most transfer happens with the first couple of wears, most often with unsanforized unwashed denim, and the dye transfer comes off of other surfaces easily with soap and water. I have grown to love it but certainly a factor to consider if your couch or car is white leather :) happy fades!

They all have varying cuts and sizes so you may be ok with any major brand like Momotaro, Japan Blue, perhaps Pure Blue Japan and even THE FLATHEAD. Your choice however should go into how you want the denim to look and feel over time.

Kapital Century Denim is GOOD but it’s not in the same tier as say Samurai, Oni, PBJ. This is largely due to Kapital being a bit stretched as a brand as they don’t only produce denim. If I were to put it mildly Kapital is a bit of a flex while the others are more diehard denim labels. It’s still really good but not as hyper focused.

Same pricing as Calvin Kleins then it get higher as the brand gets more luxurious (without increase in quality). So 250 is not actually bad because the quality of Japanese denim is far more superior.
