During week 10 of the 1986 NFL season, the Los Angeles Raiders played the Dallas Cowboys, and after an awful first half by quarterback Marc Wilson, the Raiders trailed. That's when one fan decided to do something crazy and something that could never happen today. He decided to make a call and do something about it

Yeah Bobby went in a luxury box not knowing better, Hank and the guys went to get him out and stayed in. Coach on the sidelines is knocked out and assistant calls up to the box to get a play. Says call a quick kick, figuring it will guarantee the win. Texas Longhorns screw up and Oklahoma ends up winning.

I don’t think Jim Plunkett officially retired after the 1986 season. I think he spent all of 1987 on IR before officially retiring during the 1988 preseason.

If JG9 had been around in 1986, he'd have called Al Davis and said "Spike Marc Wilson to the ground on every single play, now!"

Wilson had to be one of the biggest busts of the '80s regardless of position. Whatever he did at BYU didn't translate to the pros. As for the Cowboys, I don't know if their collapse in '86 was truly the beginning of the end for the Tom Landry era, but they wouldn't have another winning season under him, which led Jerry Jones to fire him before the ink on the ownership transfer paperwork dried.

And we're supposed to believe thee Raiders' face-saving claim that they just happened to make that switch decision at the same time. The funniest time this happened was on King of the Hill, where Hank sent in a stupid play to the Texas Longhorns' opponent, expecting it to guarantee the Longhorns victory, only for the play to actually work.

Marc Wilson was terrible on those god awful Pats teams in 89 and 90. Doesnt help that my Pats acquired him. Wilson was the qb when the Raiders lost to the Pats in the AFC divisional round.

I was at the 1989 game when Wilson returned to the Coliseum. Pretty non-eventful game TBH, Raiders won 24-21. Albeit way across the field, I did see Al in his box directly across from us but it was way to far to see if he had a phone at his side.

The raiders should have won at least 3 more games in 1986 and maybe be in the nfl playoffs for that year and they should have beaten the eagles the chiefs and the colts that year

Yeah, I remember that they were on a roll, hosting and being comfortably up on the Eagles (who didn't have a great record at the time) late in the game only for rookie Randall Cunningham to come out of nowhere and send the game into overtime and eventually beat the Raiders. That seemed to take the wind out of the Raiders' sails for the rest of the year. [Edited for omitted word]

Raider fans have influenced a lot in the NFL over the years. I'm a long-time fan from Oakland and there is another similiar type of situation that happened in 2008 that was only kind of known around the Bay. Famous Oakland Raider fan, Raider Rob, who created Raider Nation from the Black Hole. During a Monday Night home game against Denver and the Raiders getting scorched,He was shown on TV a couple of times holding a sign that said, "Kiffin Must Go" and like 3 weeks later Kiffin was fired with the projector show and legend has it that Al Davis had saw the sign on the tv in his booth.

Starting Wilson over a healthy and available Plunkett opened the door for my Patriots to beat them in the playoffs the prior January. Starting Eason over a healthy and available Grogan in XX eliminated any chance for them to make a game of it against the Bears.
