You’ve come along way Shawn I remember I’ve seen one of your videos a few years ago and I’ve been intrigued by your rat trap videos even though I had never had a rat or mice problem but I’ve learned a lot about different rat traps and methods and etc... keep up the great work 👍, I always remember when you could actually show the rats or mice being killed but hey you win some you lose some. Hope you and your family are doing fine 🙏. And once again congrats and your channels success, one of my favorite KZfaq channels with real life lessons and ideas...

@@JAlexanderG yeah, that seems to be the most efficient at mice, rats however.....they seem to shy away from the bucket traps. The best rat trap so far he's tested is that spring loaded pneumatic reset one that screws to the wall..... I think since the bucket traps, the rest are just for fun and profit. Either the rolling log or walk the plank, nothing beats those..... Did you see the one where the rat was going into the bucket and taking the mice?

My brother keeps insisting that rats are more easily attracted to salami than peanutbutter. I have only caught mouses with peanutbutter around my house but i havent seen any signs of rats either so i havent felt tempted to try his theory. He has a big live catch trap that he brought to his worksite since they did see traces of rats. They baited the trap with salami in a storage room and left it with the door closed thinking the rat was hiding in there. The next day they had a big rat in the trap but they also found a chewed hole in the door since the rat wasnt in there to start with. Would be fun to see a comparison with same traps in same location at the same time with different bait to see what attracts them most. Thank you for your epic videos! Best regards from Sweden

Hi, Shawn! I'm not sure if you'll ever see this, but I'd like to comment something for you. I started watching your Mousetrap Monday videos either one or two years ago, I'm not sure because I had just started at a new school for my last two years and they kind of blended together. Anyway, I started watching your videos when our teacher in the computer class (it was a tech school) had finished his lesson. My friends started to huddle around my computer at one point and sometimes we'd watch Mousetrap Mondays in unison before having a LAN party on some old video game. Me and my friends would talk about how mousetrap videos are weirdly interesting and addicting to watch. They'd always be the highlight of our Mondays for sure. I'm glad to have watched this channel grow, and I feel like a dad even though I'm 19 and it's not even my youtube channel lmao. Thank you, Shawn. For everything you've made and will make.

Here's an idea: Put the new trail cam under a pre-fab outdoor shed, which has been propped up on one side with a shortened broom handle, and a string tied from the handle to the cam. The thief wants the camera, goes in and pulls on it (thieves aren't too smart), which drops the shed, trapping him inside. The next morning, one punch should be enough to subdue him (thieves are wussies), then 'give him a little flip' onto the beaver dam, and see what comes along!

Nice, you were able to get away to Hawaii. You need several trail cameras. One to record what you want and one that uses the cellular network to send you real time pictures to your phone or computer. That way you can capture the action and the culprit. Hog trappers use them all the time to trigger the drop gate on their traps.

I'm seriously impressed by the setting if a rat trap with one hand. I need both hands and a lot of space and time and concentration to set one.

Cool, it kills them and puts them in a coffin all at once. With a larger box I see the potential for catching a bunch of mice at once. I would try turning the box up side down too, so they kind of boxed in more before the trap goes off.

One minor downside to this specific implementation is that if you catch live rodents, it'll be difficult to control their exit. This same principle could be used with a wire mesh box that one could simply submerge under water.

I was thinking a small hole on the bottom part of the trap.On top of a round barrel filled with water.he’ll jump down trying to escape. And Done🤔

Sometimes when mouse is very alert, swinging of trigger arm right by its face will make it jump back and avoid the kill bar by split second. It happened during the daylight in our house before. Mouse was very fast and dodged the kill bar, but went into shock right by the trap and just sat there stunned and we easily caught it with bare hands.

IDEA: There were many rats around that box when it dropped. Perhaps the box could be large enough to catch them all, perhaps with a two-stage tripping mechanism. Maybe when it drops, a batch of carbon dioxide fills the box, killing them all humanely and without poisoning predators. Perhaps baking soda and vinegar to produce the carbon dioxide.

I picked up a homemade live catch trap from a thrift store and used that Idea to make my own but its to catch a cat or a coon. The basic design is heavy screen and a gravity drop door. Use a snap trap on the outside top of the screen box run a string off the trigger with bait on the end of string when the trap snaps it yanks a Dowell pin and tje door falls. Simple effective.

A grocery produce bag wire tie on solid bait helps to prevent mice from gently licking bait off trap. I'm going to try a funnel design to guide mice to bait directly on bait trigger versus feeding from spring bar side.

Transparent lid, so ya know what you are getting into!!! Shawn, You were smarter than me on that one but at 4:51 there are like 5 rats inside the box. What about making the box maybe twice the size, putting a bunch of sunflower seeds back near the hinge, and let the spring mousetrap be the "presence indicator" and trip the box support. so maybe ya catch a whole bunch at once!!! JUST FUN!!! (maybe not useful) 55 years ago I caught a field mouse under my grandfather's sink, with a bean pot, a "Toothpick figure four baited pot support" and surprised my grandfather the next morning. WOW, Proven success. Sure was fun!

Who on earth takes rat traps and a trail camera on holiday? I know the answer now ! Wow - outstanding dedication to your hobby, and great skill to observe the non-native species while away, you really know your stuff. Thank you Shawn. :-)

One thing I also learned is, if you have deer invading your garden you just keep a few skunks around to scare them off. Could be a new thing, " Guard Skunks " lol

Okay... This might sound kind of gruesome but I have made some modifications to my standard rat traps that I use around my property. The rats and rock squirrels are enormous and sometimes get hit and only injured, not caught. I have resorted to putting nails (sharp tacks) all the way through (4-6 of them) the wooden trap at an angle just inside the kill bar. Seems to work VERY effectively as I have yet to find a sprung trap without a pest in it.

I also use Nutella as bait, it works very well, but I do like the idea of the secondary enclosure, such a simple idea, but looks very effective, it could also catch a second victim hanging back from the bait.

9:40 Because mice and rats have a great sense of smell I recommend adding a dog pee mat or card-board under the trap to catch blood and urine that may warn other mice/rats of danger.

Instead of the disk magnet, one could probably use a couple of magnetic cabinet latches, readily available in hardware stores. Secure the steel plates on the bottom platform and the magnets on the box wall.

1. I guess we need a test to see if the box is necessary; the snap trap worked both times. 2. The box does at least make it easier to censor your videos for KZfaq. 3. Is your son not allergic to Nutella? I hope it works well as bait, in that case.

have you tried to find any manufacturer that still uses mole fur for those moles that you’ve caught? Cause I’ve heard that there is or was a man in Alaska that bought dead porcupines for all sorts of uses such as quills for jewelry.

08:55 - If this is an issue, you could retrofit your IR lights with 950nm IR LEDs which aren't as visible to most animals _(and humans)._ Most night vision lights use cheaper 850nm IR LEDs which are slightly visible. Although, if it works, it works. Some great night footage I've seen on your channel. :) EDIT: Just got to the bit where you explained about the theft of trail cams. I'm sorry to hear that. But yeah, trail cam IR LEDs are slightly visible and will alert people. The (above) comment I made would apply to this situation too.
