Child therapist here! You did exactly what you needed to do when Forest had a little moment with the stickers, Skye! Walking away doesn't help explain the situation and allow Forest to understand why he is not getting what he wants. You are also teaching him healthy coping skills, emotional regulation, and emotional awareness. You could also throw in a sentence like, "I can see that your sad because you wanted another sticker, but..." so that he is aware that you are attuned to his needs :)

also, toddlers love to have choices and get involved so the more you ask him (only give two choices) the easier it might get for you throughout his morning routine. ALSO, predictability and consistency is key. Even when he is getting ready to transition from one task to another you can remind him "1 more minute" or even have a timer.. hope this wasnt too much info loll

Omg yes thank you I did not know this hey! I kinda just try a whole bunch of things and hope for the best haha I really need to be more consistent also!

Too many parents are too scared of "disappointing" their children and never saying no, unfortunately life doesn't work that way and the sooner they learn this, the better they will cope with everyday life in the future.

skye i’m sure many people can agree but thank you for showing such a real & raw side of motherhood! so many influencers tend to show the good parts & edited videos of their day but this is so helpful to many wanting or about to have children! you’re definitely one of my favourite youtubers because of how real & transparent you are, i feel like i can relate! keep doing you ❤️

Being a mom to a toddler the same age this made me feel so much better. It is always nice to see the same struggles. Toddlers are hard. You also taught me some great techniques to try but also showed that techniques don't always work and thats fine. That is life and the constant struggle. Thank you for being so raw and honest.

Such smart parenting! Coming from on a mom of two:5.5 year old boy and 2.5 year old boy. It is tough mama! But you're doing amazing! The toddler age is very difficult. I love how you teach Forest how to do chores and giving him two choices that both are what you would like him to do. So smart! Also, dealing with those meltdowns takes some self regulation 🌝 by the end of the day I don't have enough patience left in me. Loved this vlog!

Holy Dooly the ✨patience✨ ahahaha I’m so not ready for my second 😅 Just a “pro tip” that I was told by my mum friends, when you want something done try explaining to him what you need/want done while he’s watching the tv and set a timer for a few minutes and explain once the timer goes off we will do this Works wondersssss (most of the time 🤣🤣)
@Carlygirl5032 жыл бұрын
I agree! I find that giving a warning before shutting off the tv, leaving the park etc helps them prepare for it and the tantrums are so much less

You did such a good job with forest and his tantrums! Walking away is actually fine to do as long as you explain "I'm going to let you have some time to think and when you're ready I'll be here to talk". When children are having tantrums nothing you say will process in their head because pretty much the decision making part of their brain is accelerating and they can't press the brake and stop and think. So letting him have time to think and self regulate is good and then you can explain why you made that decision. I would also maybe consider doing things like wiping his table together so for example you could wipe the coffee table while he wipes his table. Giving two choices is an awesome strategy aswell but don't always expect a decision right away 😆
