Marcy Kelleher grew up a strong Christian in the Reformed Baptist tradition. In college, she'd have vigorous debates with other Christian friends, and it led her to wonder about why Christians were divided on key issues. She was also challenged by a professor to examine why she believed what she believed, and that took her deeper into questions of Scripture, history, and the sacraments. Eventually, she and her husband felt a conviction from the Holy Spirit to become Catholic, and entered the Church together shortly after they got married.

I was a Baptist for my first 21 years of life, and then I got curious about Catholicism. Eventually I realized it's a double standard to trust the Church when she says "these are the books which belong in scripture" but then ignore the Church when she says "and this is what the Scriptures mean." I'm getting confirmed and having my first communion this weekend. Praise be to God!

you ought to understand that the roman catholic church says that the pope is the sole interpreter of scripture. therefore your interpretation means nothing, according to them. the roman catholic church rejects the fact that Christ's death on the cross was enough for salvation. the roman catholic church rejects the fact that faith comes from God the Father alone. the roman catholic church denies that the word of God is enough, but that the catholic church is needed for faith and salvation by works, rituals ceremonies, doctrines and so on. the scriptures clearly find the roman catholic church in error on these.

Just a little history 1st Baptist are not reformed anything. All the Protestants came out of the catholic system. Baptist never did. 2nd being a Baptist member can't take away one sin, not one. 3rd Baptist are right because their doctrine is right. There have been different names of Christian groups that didn't go by the name Baptist, like the Politians and many others. But they believed the same. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

I was raised Southern Baptist...in the south. There was strong prejudice against Catholics and we were taught in church quite horrible things about Catholics. I grew up to get a degree in Anthropology, and I learned this protestant prejudice came down from Henry VIII who waged a war against the Church when he created the church of England. Being Catholic then was fatal, and both the Church and Catholics were vilified, persecuted. This cultural position became a part of Protestant culture and remains today. I recall my grandmother telling me very bad things about the Church. Nonetheless, due to the beautiful call of Mary, I converted in 2002. I am so happy in my conversion.

Awesome story!! I was born cradle catholic, later left the church looking for God and the true church. Went to various churches, denominations etc...met my wife in college, who was a devote methodist. Years 7 years ago she was praying and the holy spirit came to her, and said to her time to come home! She questioned it, then one day went to adoration, and she heard a voice tell her welcome home. She entered RCIA and became catholic. I then followed and came back home and have never looked back. So in love with my catholic faith!!

Number 1 thing I keep seeing from Catholics. Pride & Idolatry. Notice you didn’t mention 1 word of Jesus Christ or the gospel of Christ. That is because you hold the name Catholic above the name of Jesus. Catholicism won’t save you. Only faith in Jesus Christ will save you.

I used to be an independent Baptist. No one Catholic . My wife is Catholic . My We Twin boys 13 years old . We are the daughter 15 years old. We are all Catholic . I feel away, and I came back. Get all my confessions, going to mass every Sunday, taking the whole week communion. One of the things I enjoy going to Sunday mass is taking the holy communion. Every week, when it gets close to Sunday, I get excited. I want to go to maso on Sunday.

Is your relationship with Christ the savior or the church ? Getting a relationship with Jesus is what counts and having an emotional church experience feels good but it is Christ we are to follow .Confession is to God not a man standing in for God, Salvation is a one time event ( Gift ) not a succession of events leading to salvation. read God's word the scriptures and follow Christ as He said to in the gospels.

*R Catholicism has nothing to do with God and His Words. R Catholic Church contradicts Scriptures in every possible ways!* 1. Catholics say Mary was sinless. But BIBLE says Mary offered a sinner's offering. She was a sinner. Bible says Mary needed a Saviour. Lk 2:23-24, Lev 12:6-8, Rom 3:10. 2. Catholics say clergies must be celibate. Yet BIBLE says Peter (supposed R Church first leader) had mother in law. Bible says celibacy is not a qualification for clergies. Mat 8:14-15, Mar 1:30-31, Luk 4:38-39. 3. Catholics say Mary was forever virgin. Yet BIBLE says Jesus had brothers and sisters. Mary was not perpetually virgin. Mk 6:3, Mat 13:55, Mat 27:56, Mar 6:3, Mar 15:40, Mar 15:47. 4. Catholics say confess to R priests in a box. BIBLE says nothing about confessing to priests in a box. Bible says confess to GOD only. 1 John 1:9, Mat 6, Romans 10:9-10. 5. Catholics say drink of the physical blood of Jesus. Yet OT and NT both say do not drink blood. Acts 15, Lev 7:26. 6. Catholics say pray to passed on Mary and "saints". Yet BIBLE says do not contact the dead. NT Church did not record a single case of NT believers asking passed on saints to pray for them. Deut 18:11, Isaiah 8:19. 7. Catholics make and bow down to statues. BIBLE says do not bow down to graven images (statues). Deut 4, Exo 20:4-5. 8. Catholics sprinkles “holy water”. But NT Church of the Bible mentioned nothing about “holy water”. There was no record of any Apostles sprinkling “holy water” on believers. Catholics claimed “holy water” came from OT. Yet Num 5:17 says “holy water” was water used to test adulterous women in OT temple. Hardly the same. Those were for Old Covenant Jews. Not New Testament Christians. 9. Catholics say Peter was pope - bishop of all bishops. Yet BIBLE says Peter was just a leader of the Jerusalem Church. Bible says nothing of the office of bishop of bishops. Gal 2:9, Mat 16:18. 10. Catholics say there is a seat of Peter. Yet BIBLE says nothing about it. Jesus said “not to lord over others”. 11. Catholics has clergy priesthood. Bible says clergy priesthood was done away with in New Testament. There is no clergy priesthood in NT. Heb 7:27, 9:12, 10:10. 12. Catholics preaches Works Salvation (faith + good works + partake R sacraments + submit to R pontiff + be in R Church + devote to Mary = to be saved). Yet Bible says “believe in Jesus to be saved”. Bible says Works Salvation is cursed. Gal 1:8-9. Acts 16:30-31, John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10. 13. Catholics says they must do Penance to atone for their sins. Yet Bible says repent, confess and sins will be forgiven. Catholic Bible changes the word “repentance” in NT into “penance”. Original Greek NT does not use or mean the word penance. Penance = work to atone for sins. Repentance = change of heart. 1 John 1:9, Mat 6. 14. Catholics say Mary went straight to heaven without dying. Yet Bible says nothing about it. 15. Catholics say Islam and Christianity have the same GOD. Yet Islam doesn't believe in death and resurrection of Jesus and Trinity.

I explored Eastern religions, and Pagan rituals before I was pulled toward the Catholic faith, by the Blessed Mother and the Rosary. Finally I was officially welcomed into the Catholic Church at the age of 62! The lifelong journey was worth it, especially since the Blessed Mother came into the picture, more than 20 years ago. Great testimony.. As a Protestant I wasn't aware what I was missing by not being Catholic. I later found out the wonder of the Catholic faith and one of the best kept secrets of Christianity which is Catholicism. All those trips to Italy and my wife got me converted. When I say trips to Italy it was going in the Catholic Churches there and praying and seeing the fruits of Catholic prayer is what got me converted. Before I was aimless spiritually that's not to blame Protestantism I know many very Holy Protestants with some great Churches but Catholic is for me. I believe the Saints Converted me

Be it known: through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit! Hear me when I say, ye that are Catholic have been deceived and know not God. Ye worship Mary, praying to her; when God tells his to worship none other than him. It is idolatry. Catholicism has it's own Bible and teachings, which are blasphemous to the word of God: the Holy Bible. As ye follow the teachings of man and not God; ye hear the pope, but not Jesus, yet ye claim to be his disciples! These are but a few things I named ye dwell within; there are many more. I tell you now to repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit upon asking the Father! There are *NO* sub-divisions of Christianity. You're either a disciple of Christ or not. A Christian is someone who follows God's word, not a religion. Who obey the Father and follow his will; not man's nor their own heart's. Unless you keep Jesus' commandments, think not the Holy Spirit will dwell within you! They who heed this message and did what was stated with an open heart to God... Read the Holy Bible (KJV) daily and every time before you read, pray to the Father and ask: "Lord I ask that you give me understanding of your word, that I interpret it the way you want me to, and none of my own. I ask you in Jesus' name, amen." Revelation 22:8-9 KJV 8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. Acts 2:38 KJV 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Luke 11:13 KJV 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? John 14:21-24 KJV 21 *He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.* 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, *If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.* 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and *the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.* 3 John 1:11 KJV 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. *He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.* 1 John 3:6-10 KJV 6 *Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.* 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: *he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.* 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 *Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.* 10 *In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God,* neither he that loveth not his brother.

I honestly needed to hear this. I've been wavering in my discernment and conversion as a Presbyterian, and I'm definitely not interested in Pres. anymore...Nor any Prot denomination. However, I've been reluctant and doubting myself and the faith ever so often. But I have to remember: out there, there are souls just like me who finally took the plunge all the way, and they are fruiting with the Spirit forever because of it, and they are telling their stories of just such things. My wife and I converted from Baptist to Catholic, confirmation on my birthday, April 16, 2006. I had no idea it would happen until I studied my way into the Church. Yes, continuous study of the scriptures, prayers, study of commentaries, Church Fathers, history, and good debate between skilled Catholic apologists with Protestant apologists, and God's Grace lead me home to the Roman Catholic Church. The sacraments are such a blessing to the Christian. But I am forever grateful to my Protestant family, brothers and sisters, who so sincerely and faithfully taught me the scriptures, prayed for and encouraged me all my life growing up. They did the best they knew how.

RCIA classes begin in September at most Catholic parishes. By attending you can ask questions and get answers without any commitment until you're ready. They continue until Easter, so you have a lot of time and information given before that day. Usually by then a decision is made and most enter the Church at that time. Some take more time to discern, and that's ok. Some walk away and we just love them, pray for them and wish them the best. Check it out.

I guess I had an easy time becoming Catholic. I had gone to many protestant churches as a child with my friends but every time I saw anything about the Catholic Church on TV, I was very interested. My divorced mother raising us alone did not take us to church, though I asked her to. So, when I was an adult and free to choose a church, I prayed about it. I instinctively knew there had to be one true faith and so I simply asked God, "Which one is your Church?" He answered first with a dream and then with a friend asking me to go to Mass with her. I walked into the Catholic Church and felt immediately at home. A feeling I had never felt in any other church. Becoming a Catholic just came naturally. God led me all through my childhood to the Church until I became an adult and was free to make my own choices. I had never been baptized so I can't claim to be a convert when I became a Catholic, but I felt God in my life since I was a young child. I feel the Catholic Church respects women more than in the protestant churches and I have heard that same sentiment from other women who were at one time protestant and now Catholic.

@@eddyrobichaud5832 So is it a problem for you that the word "Catholic" (universal) is not in the bible? The word "trinity" is also not in the bible, so do you have a problem with that too? Speaking of the Bible, it was the Catholic "universal" Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, that decided which of the many writings circulating in the first century were to be considered as the inspired word of God and to be included in the canon of Sacred Scripture. This process took several centuries. Without the Catholic Church we would not even have the Bible (you're welcome!). From the very beginning, the Church Fathers throughout the Christian world, East and West, in every century, asserted and defended that Christ founded only one, united Church, holding the same Faith, and under the same government of bishops, which they all called the Catholic [“Universal”] Church, whose communion every Christian was obligated to keep, and outside of which there was no salvation. A question for you. Where is justification by faith alone in the bible? There is no teaching of "faith ALONE" in the Bible. Moreover, just think of the significance that this was also not taught by a single Christian, (including the early church fathers who either personally knew some apostles or were taught by those who did), for over 1500 years. More imprtantly, this man made doctrine of protestants is clearly contradicted in James 2:24. The only place in the entire Bible where the words "faith alone" are found, the words "NOT BY" are right in front of them. Also you have Matthew 12:36 and 37 where Jesus speaking in the context of the final judgement, says in v37, "by your words you will be justified, by your words you will be condemed". Words are more than just faith. That's something you say, something you do. In Romans 2:6 and 7, St. Paul says "God will reward each man according to his works. To him who continues in good works, his reward shall be glory, incorruption, and everlasting life". There St.Paul says everlasting life is a reward for good works. Now, is faith involved? Of course it is. It is essential to believe in Christ. "We are justified by faith", Romans 5:1 says, but the problem for protestants is that "faith ALONE" is nowhere to be found. In Galatians 6:7 for example, St.Paul says, "Let no man be deceived: God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man SOWS, that shall he reap. If he continues to SOW to the flesh, he shall of the flesh reap death; if he continues to SOW to the Spirit, he shall of the Spirit reap reap everlasting life. Let us therefore not grow weary in well-doing, for we shall reap the reward if we faint not" . So, your problem is that you have a confused 16th century monk, who was so far removed from the apostles and the early Church fathers, that his justification by "faith alone", which was his most important doctrine, was absolutely false and absolutely un-biblical. Also, don't forget, Jesus didn't hand over a bible, he gave us a CHURCH. Jesus said in Matthew 18:15-18 "....and the one who fails to hear the Church shall be a heathen and a publican". In other words, Jesus established the Church to be His authority to speak for Him; that's exactly what we see in the book of Acts in chapter 15, where there was a heresy that threatened to tear a fledgling church apart in Antioch. When Paul and Barnabas could not settle it, what did they do? They had a council and the Church declared on the matter, and the matter was settled. So as a matter of history, it is clear that the Catholic "universal" Church was started by Jesus in 33AD.

Can it be the Holy Spirit teaches the Baptists one thing, the Presbyterians another thing, and the SDA something entirely different? Of course not! I’ve read the Bible in three languages and I call your attention to John 17:21 and Ephesians 4:4-5 which talk about Christian unity. Jesus, Our Lord, founded only ONE Church. "... that I realized that I might need to become Catholic..." That idea has to be truly earth-shaking to the Protestant mind. The essence of Protestantism is the rejection of Catholicism. When a Protestant thinks "I might NEED to become Catholic" his / her whole world collapses. Understanding the Eucharist is one of the things that you just can't dismiss. It's a major factor in pushing you to the "I NEED to become Catholic" point. Once you get to that point and your world has collapsed, you discover that you are standing in a new, glorious world that is far richer than the one you just lost.

As a Protestant, I hate anti-Catholic sentiment. The ones I love the most are Catholic. I worship at an Army chapel Protestant service, however the Army chapel system is a very ecumenical environment, where I'm at, Catholics and non-Catholics worship separately but fellowship together quite well. Romans 10:9 states that if you confess Christ as Lord and believe in your heart that he rose again, you shall be saved. The last time I checked, that verse is in the both the Protestant and the Catholic/Orthodox canons. As a Protestant I complete understanding where this woman is coming from, many of us are tired of hearing Catholic-bashing and want the entire body of Christ to fellowship together.

Small theological differences. Little differences that have absolutely nothing to do with salvation. When I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ (2nd person in the triune Godhead), I joined the body of Christ, not the body of Christ as defined by a denomination, but as defined by Christ echoed by Paul. Some think it's supposed to be Catholic, some think it's supposed to be Mesianic Torah observant including the celebration of the feasts, some think it's evangelical or the body must be charismatic. I joined the body of Christ with Christ as the head and ALL genuine converts (Catholic, orthodox, Baptist, Presbyterian, Gospel, Messianic) as the body. If I swear an oath of allegiance to one denomination than I dilute my ability to persuade folks to GO to the cross of Christ personally, and go to the father through our high priest who is Jesus. Anyone who confesses Christ as Lord is my brother and sister, Catholics and Protestants included.

I do understand that Catholic theology says that salvation comes through Christ but my experience with my Catholic friends is that they are deficient in reading holy scripture, don’t really understand the gospel message and think or hope that the church is going to save them if they are good enough. My understanding of Catholic theology is that Mary is also a co-redemptress with Christ for salvation. You really didn’t answer my question about Christ’s body being the bread. People could be shocked at what He said but that doesn’t make it true. Seems like you traded in Sola scriptura for church tradition

there was a story once told where a college Philosophy professor once gave his students a test he wrote one word on the blackboard. ."WHY?"... many students wrote long papers explaining the reason for the word why... what does it mean?.. how is it used?.. what is it's importance?.. where does it lead?.. and so on and on... some only gave brief one page answers... to the multi pagers he graded a "C".. to the one page answers he gave an "F" one student wrote only one word and turned his paper in.. and left the classroom.... he got an "A".. what was the word?.......BECAUSE"... sometimes we do not have to have all the answers to the "why"...as long as we can accept God's answer of because... that is what God does for the Christian..

I am protestant. Going to a Catholic church, and will be in rcia classes from easter but I wont lie i struggle with Mary, Saints, and all the props. It's different. Also i lobe the old testiment, so the great emphasis on new and not both has led me to still use other channels. I am trying to learn, it's just soo different and I want to mean the things I say and do. I do love the consistency and community outreach. I honestly believe we all need the conviction of our faith. And I love that u kept this to your experience and weren't bashing anything. I do believe God will judge us according to our faith, whether catholic or protestant.

I hope you did get confirmed. If you are being told the new testament is better than the old, go to a different rcia group ( even if you are confirmed). The new testament fulfills the old, it doesn't replace it. We need both to understand both. The Holy Spirit will guide you.

To know the Bible is to leave the Catholic Church. You don't realize how right you are though. People who read extra biblical books by the "fathers" do often times become catholic. Many Protestants are just "reformed" catholics and I always say that reformed theology is a bridge back to Rome. This is because they love the traditions of men rather than the word of God much like the pharisees in Jesus's day. Matthew 15:8-9 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Can I ask which accounts of the early church you read that were most helpful? I'm starting to read St. Ignatius's letters. Would you add anything to that? I'm a long-standing Reformed Protestant who is very interested in the Catholic church.

Ignatius of Antioch is a great start. I would include Clement of Rome, Irenaus of lyon, Justin Martyr and Polycarp. I recommend "Fathers Know Best" by Jimmy Akin. It's a great reference book.
