Help me out. From my understanding, TDS is only the devolved solids in the water. It messaged with a tester by measuring how much current will pass between the electrodes. When we talk about hardness, we are talking just about Gh and Kh. So if you have other devolved solids in your water besides Kh and Gh components (IE salts), your TDS could be high, but your water would be considered soft. So without knowing what the Kh and Gh is to start with, a TDS meter isn't going to tell you if the water is hard or soft. Of course, if the TDS is very low, your water has to be soft. If your TDS is high, it doesn't tell you by itself if you have hard or soft water, only that there is something devolved in the water. Am I understanding this correctly? Am I missing a key point?

Thats true especially with shrimp. However many things disolve into water and their next model coming out tells you organics in the water...so essentjally everything EXCEPT minerals...which saltwater keepers use to determine how much waste or stufff that will turn into ammonia, methane etc in the long run

Yes I love these reviews I really like comparison videos also but mostly I come to your channel for actual information. Although you could extrapolate that to mean that I would trust your reviews over most others. Oxygen the ability to track over time and connection to my device would be nice additions.

Ill try but moreover ill ask them. The meter doesnt come with much. PS. my 7 in 1 (wait 6?)... is way more tempermental than my 5 in one... the first one worked best...second has some hiccups ...thats what im meaning to say. I had to calibrate it before it read normal in the tank.

Um i dont know whats up with the superchat thing because there was some chaos im gonna make a video about .. with copyright imagery i used from a friend...but a third party claimed it as abuse of copyright ...then he had them retract the claim...but the features on youtube *cough* like getting paid are frozen still even though they removed the strikes etc.

12:35 pm Hi Alex, I hope your recovery is going well. I have fresh water planted tanks. I have a pH meter and an ORP meter (Oxygen Reduction Potential...the ability of your ecosystem to handle the nasty stuff like dead fish, snails, plants, uneaten food) Check out Dr. Novak's videos on ORP. I record pH and ORP values every day. We are constantly observing and learning in this hobby. These are tools to help us do that. I clicked on the link for Kactoily and got a 404 not found message within the Kactoily site... I'm in Canada maybe that's why. Anyway I noticed that they also have a 7 in 1 unit which includes ORP. I would not like to loose my ability to measure pH and ORP!!!

Not that i know of... im sure the roots can be grown that way with proper nutrients and fertz, but in 1 to 3 months they always seem to slowly die, sadly

My questions are: -Does this device affect the fishes' sensory and lateral line function at all? Many fish are quite sensitive to electrical fields. -Does it emit electrical current into the water as it collects, processes and posts or sends its data? It would be nice if it would be able to go from tank to tank and keep its accuracy. It would also be nice if it had a 3 year warranty. I wouldn't mind owning one but...I would definitely be using it on multiple tanks and if it didn't stay accurate even after recalibration, then I would not consider purchasing one.

My issue is with GH & KH I use the COOP test strips. When I test the GH the color shown on the strip does not compare to any color on the bottle.

My tds measurement is way of when i try to adjust it does not give u much adjustment +,- for proper adjustment how can i set it to proper t.d.s readi g test with t.d.s pen type meter with out calibrating

Talking about the wireless versions here for the most part because the wired ones aren't available for me to even see on their site. Damn I know the exchange rate from USD to CAD is crap but it shouldn't be this bad.. not even talking about the 7-in-1 meter that I want, the wireless version of that same 6-in-1 meter you're showing is normally priced $215 CAD on their website for me here in Ontario, which as of the current exchange rate is $159.35 USD, your caption says the wired version was under $100 for you to buy and that was only 3 months ago, but even a replacement probe for the wired version is $93 CAD for me or $68.93 USD... I need to find some friends South of the border or find a cheap reshipper lol, I'm a broke aquarist as it is and the the mark-up just from goods crossing that imaginary line is insane.

Looks like Alex got his ears lower. Or maybe he grew his hair shorter. Either way, it's a good look.👍 A question about the sensor box... Will small fish, shrimp, etc go up in the big hole in the bottom and make it home? And if they do, will that affect the parameter readings?

They do toss the reading off on the little glass lignt sensor for temp but there isnt really anywhere for them to go in there...so they tend to come right back out...its about the size of a thimble

@@Fishtory I'm picturing the snail with just the right sized shell wedging itself in there and not being able to work it's way out. I always imagine that sort of thing since I'm an incurable pessimist. I guess the up side of that is that when things don't go wrong in the worst possible way, I'm super happy, and on the rare occasions when it does, I'm cool with it because I expected it to be that way.

I think a sensor connected to it which could be buried in the substrate and could tell you what the ammonia level was would be really useful, but for plant health, and for fish health. I've seen so many times when people have lost fish to do an unexpected ammonia spike that it would surely be a good addition. Does this measure chlorine, and would knowing that number when setting up a new tank, or adding water to an old one, be useful? All of this is, as you realize, from the mind of a novice. Also, a fire detector. Oh wait. This is water. A fire detector would be useless, so scratch that.

@chompchompyerded @Fishtory An ammonia or nitrate sensor would be great but the problem is that those sensors are quite expensive (a few hundred dollars) and currently require frequent maintenance that can be a hassle. Even commercial fish farms often use liquid test kits for those parameters because the sensor tech just isn't quite worth it unless you have a huge operation. Chlorine sensors have similar problems. At the price point, this product likely only has three sensors (pH, temperature, conductivity) and uses the conductivity measurements to estimate salinity, specific gravity, and TDS. Hobbyists are stuck with liquid test kits or strips for everything else (for now) unfortunately!

If a small fish or a shrimp took up residence in the hole in the bottom of the sensor unit, do you thing that would throw things off at all? I'm also wondering about algae growing in there, though that is less likely owing to it being dark inside. I'm guessing that frequent cleaning of that hole would be important.
