Boy do I know how that crash feels I have hit a few of those my self and just like you did not break anything . We don't have that much as for jumps anywhere local here but I still keep looking for some anywhere I go.

Hey man, sorry to see this. I know this vid is a bit old, so I hope you're all healed up. I think what happened is that you let yourself come forward as you were going up the lip. I checked the 3rd person footage of you hitting jumps in the vid where you test out Ryan's Stand Up advice. I noticed that you consistently had that movement pattern. I think if you start keeping the distance between your chest and the handlebars the same (not let yourself come forward) as you're traveling up the lip, you're going to be better at avoiding getting bucked. This is advice Anthony Napolitan gave to me, and it utterly changed how I jump. Take it for what it's worth to ya! Hope that helps! 🤘🏾

Thanks man, I’ll work on that. I feel like there’s a different body position with each jump and trying to nail that “feeling” takes time and practice.
@mtb_alan

@@midlifeshredder you’d think but if you mostly maintain the distance between your chest and bars (or top tube) on the way up the lip you’re gonna be in a good position. This is because the bike will always be aligned with the lip regardless of the shape, so holding that distance will ensure that you are also aligned. Note that this is just the foundation and pumping, standing up, rowing the bars, etc. all sit on this foundation. As you learned, standing up will knock you down if you’re out of position. 🤘🏾

hey man, I think one of the reasons for the fall there was that your left foot slipped from the pedal

Man that sucks - and its my biggest fear (jumping)! As a fellow over 40'er (49 eeek), for now I am keeping my wheel on the ground and rolling jumps. In the fall I plan on doing one of "the Ride Series jump clinics and will eventually do both to learn how to jump. Good luck on recovery, glad it wasn't worse than it is!

I'm the same with jumping. I would say you didn't ride the full lip until the back tire was off the ground. I totally get it. Easy to say... hard to do. Get well soon! See you in September!

Sorry to hear about your injury. I just took a bad fall a week ago. Complete shoulder separation of the clavicle (collarbone) from the shoulder. So that end is floating in the air and I have a noticeable lump. Happy to say it’s not bad enough for surgery but I was very close to it. Fellow 40er here too by the way. Only been riding since May and trying to build my skills. Heal well boss man.

I case all the time and I hardly ever lose control. In fact, I kinda enjoy it on slower to moderate runs and have learned to adjust so I don’t loose control. Here’s the trick. You have to get long on your bike, loosen up your legs and let go of your front break. On the way down, open up your hips and do a negative squat. When you case, now you have all the travel of your legs and you can absorb it slowly.
@midlifeshredder

I wish it was just a case that cause my crash. Probably would have saved it if that’s all it was. You can’t see it but I was coming off the bike as soon as I cleared the lip. Which explains the expletive while I was in the air! 😬

I had a day on my MX bike where I (40+ at the time) was riding a charity ride (1000+ bikes on rolling farm hills) where i was often tapped out in top gear cresting hills and landing in the hollows... I decided to back off so I didn't do something stupid.. Instead I got off track in a small zigzag grass gulley. I rode over one zig and rather than try a 90deg turn decided to double the next 2 zags... Well I doubled them... but the bike only did a single... and I super-manned into the ground with near no time to pull my arms back from letting the bars go, so left wrist was only chest height on impact giving it a good sprain (and a 10k ride one handed back to the pits... So a month later when I wake up, arm beside me and asleep.. I decided to go to the A&E and have it checked... "Well you've got a chip out of your ulna... and you've broken the bottom diagonally off your radius into the wrist.. and there's some floaty bits in there... are you in any pain...? " "Meh". Hence I don't do doubles!. One thing i DO do... From skateboarding etc as a kid.. Close your fists when falling off, and bend the elbows (so your aiming your fists slightly in rather than straight at the ground), it helps glance off things, using your arms as springs, and allows a shoulder roll... Of course this requires falling off a lot to get it right... I've managed not to fall off other than the odd bad stop n stumble.. but as my videos show I'm not the fastest grommet in the park. I used to run flat out at (ok school... 35 years ago)... jump forward, punch elbow high at the ground rolling over the back of the wrist, elbow, shoulder back.. and roll over and back onto my feet... I could clear a chair etc. and tuck'n'roll. I think that comes back on some falls if it feels like I'm going to impact too hard face down. (I'm guessing I tried that the day I "woke up in a field".. another trail ride... this time KO but got mem back to entering a field full throttle.. apparently hit woops and highsided... Got the "What's your name, whats your age" thing... Last thing he said.. "Oh by the way, you've put your shoulder out". Wish I knew I had to get Physio... Ist time in hospital and I was 40 then (53 now).
