A come Avventura, questo era il titolo del programma e questo brano faceva parte della memoria di tutti coloro che sono intorno ai 60. Un mondo lontanissimo e diversissimo da oggi ma zeppo di cose stupende come questo pezzone.

Era la sigla di chiusura di "Avventura" una trasmissione condotta da Bruno Modugno dedicata ai documentari sulla natura o alle imprese di esplorazione in luoghi impervi o sconosciuti, alla scoperta di popoli lontani, ed a culture diverse. Un vero viaggio intorno al mondo in un palinsensto televisivo che si dimostrava nei confronti di noi ex bambini estremamente didattico ed educativo. Attraverso la visione di quella trasmissione molti giovani si ritrovarono per la prima volta faccia a faccia con l'antica popolazione degli Etruschi, scoprirono l'affascinante figura di Tutankhamon e si spaventarono delle conseguenze della sua maledizione fino ad argomenti più "particolarei" come il deja-vu e la reincarnazione. INDIMENTICABILE......

Ho impiegato quasi tutta la vita per sapere il titolo di quella che era la sigla di chiusura di "Avventura" ma adesso che lo so e posso rintracciare "A Salty Dog" ogniqualvolta voglio, non mi stanco mai di sentirla ed ogni volta è la stessa emozione di cinquant'anni fa.

Beautiful song from the greatest band not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.Their music goes so beyond the limits of R&R. It's a tribute that they were never inducted into the "Hall"

It's also a shame that they were not. They played the Fillmore East many times to packed houses, the Fillmore West too, and oh so many many other venues. Now that the Moody Blues got in, fans should make them next!

Upon reading ( and re-reading many times!) it's now quite evident that these men are set aboard a ghost ship for eternity...they aren't among the living at all. The very last words seal this conviction..."A Salty Dog, the seaman's log...Your witness, my own hand"...these words were meant for the living who found the log, to try to fathom these sailors fate...

Una brano immenso capace di racchiudere la nuova vita dei marinai del bounty appena dopo l'ammutinamento e l'immensa pagina aperta sulle conoscenze su chi come me allora ragazzino apriva su mondi ed esperienze sconosciute.Inutile dire che la curiosità che mi hanno suscitato programmi come Avventura di cui Solty dog era colonna sonora mi hanno accompagnato per tutta la vita,nei viaggi fisici e metafisici.

Fu un programma veramente straordinario, che mi e ci attirava per i particolari argomenti che trattava. All'epoca apriva l'orizzonte della nostra mente portandoci a fare meravigliosi viaggi con la fantasia.

Il progressive rock è musica per la MENTE che però tocca anche il CUORE è un susseguirsi di slanci di fantasia di fotogrammi immagini impressioni che quelle musiche evocavano mentre le ascoltavamo ed arrivavano anche a toccare le corde dei sentimenti donandoci le cosiddette GOOD VIBRATIONS !!!!!!! I PROCOL HARUM erano fra quelle bands fra quei musicisti con la M maiuscola che hanno scritto pagine IMMORTALI di VERAMENTE GRANDE ,GRANDISSIMA MUSICA !!!!! W il prog rock e la buona musica SEMPRE !!!!!!!

'All hands on deck'.....I was a crew man on a grouper boat....Gulf Mexico...Middle Grounds..1978....The Captain, yelled on hands on deck...the Captain & myself....saved our ship....the other 2 crew were never able to work again....they hid in their bunks...

Part of the problem is they're near land. The bottom shelves up, causing the waves to build higher and have a shorter "space" between them, causing the ship to roll hard while pitching her head into it. I just love the line "where ships come home to die". I've seen some derelict ships in the waters of the Chesapeake, especially up in Curtis Creek. It's a fun little kayak ride back there.

A proper song! Last year I learned this on piano (I'm a guitarist :-) transposed down a tone to hit the high notes, and played it over and over for a couple of months. Haven't played it since and can't remember a note :-(

I agree about Gary's voice being richer now, and there is a live version on YT; but I have a quarrel with the orchestra and choir competing with his voice, nearly drowning it out; to the point that it's unpleasant. I do like the raspy texture to his voice in this original version; it matches the song.
