I bought A Salty Dog in the early seventies because I found it was a wonderful song, but this live version with choir and orchestra is even more than wonderful and Brooker's voice, after so many years, is still thrilling….incredible!

Questi sono fra i musicisti e i brani musicali di quel periodo che sono convinto rendano irripetibili quegli anni, ho avuto il privilegio di viverli da adolescente e credo sia stata una grande fortuna poter ascoltare da contemporaneo composizioni di questo livello . Riascoltare oggi che sono ormai settantenne questo pezzo che mi aveva incantato allora, mi ha fatto provare, amplificate le stesse emozioni e lo stesso stupore. Grazie per sempre.

@@giovannibiolcati6162 Che paroloni, dal tono della risposta deduco che lei mi abbia catalogato come un vecchio rincoglionito; voglio solo chiarire che il suo commento mi è parso inopportuno perchè dà l'idea che il brano sia stato commissionato apposta dagli autori della trasmissione (che certo avevano ottimi gusti perchè la sigla di apertura era "She came in through the bathroom window" nella versione di Joe Cocker).

Masterpiece. Have loved this song as well since it was originally released...always dug deep into my heart & brought me to tears from it's beauty. Now, so many years later, my grandson is an Enlisted US Navy Sailor so it means that much more to me. 💙⚓🇱🇷😢

This arrangement of this song is SUPREME! R.I.P. Gary Brooker, you were a rare talent. Long reign Procol Harum, one of the great rock groups to emerge from England! Absolute travesty they aren't in the R&R Hall of Fame.

I first heard this song when I was 15 years old, instantly liked it, and - now in my sixties - still think that this is one of the really great pieces of 20st century music. Thank you for this great performance. RIP Gary Brooker!

Finally, an old rocker who still cares about a quality performance. Can't tell you how many acts I've seen these days who go out to perform, I suppose, for a "pay day", and they absolutely suck in terms of vocals and instrumentation. I saw Gary Brooker do this and all the other big Procol Harum hits at the Grande Ballroom (Detroit) in 1968 and he's still got it. Kudos to him for respecting the music AND himself.

Queste melodie, purtroppo, non si fanno più. Sarà che i tempi sono cambiati, ma sono certo che questo brano, che per me è uno dei più belli del secolo scorso, continuerà ad essere ascoltato e apprezzato negli anni a venire: i brani odierni dopo un mese hanno già stancato e passano velocemente nel dimenticatoio.

The singers are singing Latin: Father, Son, Holy Ghost--repeated over and over again--not a Latin expert, but you can find this on the internet somewhere. I don't know what the final phrase of Latin is, however. And I totally agree with you. Gary Brooker is a class act and so well preserved. I saw Procol Harum live two years ago, and my brother and I were absolutely speachless at his abilities--we closed our eyes are were transported back in time. Procol Harum is not to be missed!

I have got to see a performance from them in my lifetime. I watch this every week and feel it in my heart every time. It is #1 on my list! Have to see them with an orchestra once in my life. Come to Louisiana ( New Orleans) at least. I have to see you perform this song.
