Enjoy this Sci-Fi Action Short Film...In the not-too-distant future, a tenuous peace between humans and remarkably human-like “machines”-some don’t even know they’re not real-is tested when synthetics begin spontaneously exploding. A military-led search for these unwitting suicide bombers begins, sending a terrified machine woman and her human partner on the run. Directed by the talented Dassani brothers, Elan Dassani and Rajeev Dassani! For more information, please see the details and links below:

Hi Rajeev, brilliant cinematography top notch, music haunting and really adds to the ambiance. Story obviously need some work, I suggest you read some Iain M. Banks or move away from the obvious human-against-machine story line. Thanks for sharing this.

agreed, so... synths can breed, but childs are not synths? or half-synths? may be the mother had to be a synth? (I mean the upset child) the explosion trigger based on emotions should be changed, that makes them too humans (LOL, mental pun intended) they are spies unaware of what they are, excellent, but the trigger should still be remotely controlled (and for more drama, disablable)! ah... and... I want this on a fully blown movie and a 3D game for PC that works on linux at least xD (well, to ask does not cost anything hehe)

We actually imagined that the girl at the beginning was from the wife's first marriage... a short is tricky, don't want to overdo with too much explanation, but also understand how confusion is a problem. Will certainly consider the triggers as we develop the feature further, thank you!

hey! I think I found the answer! the synths are not perfect, and being too upset is actually a malfunction that breaks everything inside them making them explode! :D, unless u had thought that already, that is my 2 cents, keep the great work xD

Amazing is an understatement! The Middle East part was just heart wrenching and exciting at the same time. That Soundtrack was excellent and literally "narrated" the script. What a find on KZfaq, should be a short in a movie theater it is THAT GOOD! Congratulations team.

Positives: - Superb visual effects. I felt like I was watching a movie or top series on television. Very, very well made. - Acting was fairly good. I didn't feel like there was any major negatives with the actors/actresses. It was rather nice to see middle-eastern actors/actresses portrayed as the hero/heroines for a change. Made a difference. - Story was intriguing. Left me wanting to know more... And that's brilliant. Improvements: - Pilots disobeying orders. I found this hard to believe and left me feeling a little "hmm..." about it all. - Sleepers. I understand these synthetics were created to be spies/suicide bombers during the machine and mankind war, but since the treaty, wouldn't the machines recall or deactivate these sleepers to avoid another conflict? The hardest part I found hard to believe was how they were blowing up due to emotions triggering their explosions and the two we see in this short movie had fulfilled a lengthy life with families or loved ones. Something that would've taken a lot of emotions over many years and yet they didn't blow up before? So perhaps a little more depth around "why?" they were suddenly exploding could've made this plot more believable. For example; had the machines purposely activated them again many years later to provoke another war? Overall conclusion: I personally believe this is one of the better short-movies on KZfaq that I've seen thus far. Each short movie has a different directive, style and quality that make it unique and I'd describe this movie as a refined gem in the making. Most short movies are rough around the edges with directors/writers/producers/etc... Finding their feet and testing their skills to see where their metal should be channeled. Top credit to the cast and team behind making this short movie, they could go on to make this a fully-blown movie at the theaters and do very well for themselves. You should feel proud of what you've created and achieved.

Although I fully agree with your remarks about disobeying pilots, emotional triggers and the overall quality of this film, I'd argue sleepers do make sense. Si vis pacem, para bellum: peace doesn't imply deactivating all weapons and especially not intelligence services.

I figured that the synthetics might be spies and also envoys. That finding biologicals who could love synthetics even when they knew what they were could be part of a process of bridging hostilities and creating dialog where dialog seemed to be impossible. I loved that he walked towards the machine, and I wanted to see where that went, but was so frustrated that the short ended there. IMHO, this was fantastic storytelling in the best spirit of sci-fi short stories. You don't have the time to provide a big arc, so you get to the essence of something important fast and you show how someone was changed by it. Thank you. That's 20 minutes I'm thrilled to have spent watching your art.

Most impressive indeed and most actual in its background story. Humans and "humanlike" machines - it could be a real plot - not too much in the future. But it could also be between biological humans racial or political. It is after all alike, as love makes the difference. Where there is love, there is co-existance, where there is love, there is future. Where thre is hatred there is only death. Many thanks to all of the crew for making this clear again with a really professional shortfilm. Maybe take it and make it a big screen movie too, it is all worth it.

how were the accents? still ok in Egypt? Also, related question, would Egyptians watch a scifi or fantasy TV series made in Jordan?
@ThingsITell
@ThingsITell 6 жыл бұрын
Elan Dassani , the accents are excellent it was easy to understand every word , be aware the accents vary from country to country we all speak Arabic in middle east but the accent in Egypt for example is not the same in Saudi Arabia nor Jordon , however the accent in Algeria or Tunisia is very different that me as Egyptian barely understand lol ,btw Egyptian accent was excellent for Disney movies and for comedy/humor movies ,but for something really pationate and sensitive like this Jordon/Syrian accent fit perfectly. for the last question there was few fantasy movies done by Egyptian company's it didn't succeeded coz of poor production vfx and poor acting ,but for something like this I would say ppl will be hooked about it as we barely seen any Arabic accent actors in sci-fi/fantasy series with good production value ,i don't even remember there is any series have been made in middle East which has Arabic accents in it ,I hope I answered ur questions and sry for my poor English .

This had all the makings of the beginning of a damn good series. That would let you develop the story behind the human/machine conflict and why they were meant to self detonate. If I had the money to fund a full series project you'd have it. Keep at this- you're going places.
@heikedixon4968
@heikedixon4968 2 жыл бұрын
I think they were meant to selfdestruct in order to not be able to harm humans out of " hatefull" thoughts. So strong "harmful" emotions would lead to selfdestruction. What they didn't acknowledge for were feelings/emotions like fear/hurt/betrayal (all of which can happen in relationships) combined with the fact the machines could feel/give love. So these emotions too are strong and also harmful, but not to the human partner but the machine itself. That's why they became afraid and fearfull for their humans once the process of destruction is irreversible.
@maikutsukino4743
@maikutsukino4743 2 жыл бұрын
@@heikedixon4968 But if they self destruct to not cause harm to humans, then a better way would be for a system shutdown. Not an explosion that will cause the harm they want to avoid. I think CG Bros have something a little different in mine with this one. Still wish this had the funding to be a full series. Kinda reminds me of the remake of Battlestar Galactica.

Sigourney Weaver knew Neil Blomkamp from his past and from "Chappie", she did the film because she knew Neil and liked the script. I asked him to be in this film and he agreed because he's the nicest man in the world, and hopefully liked the project :) Long story short, famous people are like regular people, they will often do a favor for a friend if they can, and have time, etc.

GoofballLtG People need to understand stereotypes wouldn't exist if they weren't not common. People get their feelings hurt because others point out them out as a negative(when it is just different from their people) and shame them for it. Just accept that it is a stereotype with your people and move on. I do the same no matter how negative they are. Statistical data will not change if I'm one of the few of my people not following the stereotype.

@SH3player
@SH3player 6 жыл бұрын
Dave Howell None are negative, but some are only beneficial to its own race. One may be positive to one race, but not to another. That is how we determine what is right or wrong. It is based on our feelings which are influenced by our genetics. When you mix races, it also changes genetics for them to have different traits and feelings. There are no negative traits of your race even if it is killing other races and it is a part of your genetics like middle Eastern race. If you are following your genetic code to kill, manipulate, steal, and conquer then fine. Nothing is out of boundaries if it is part of your race. When you have each other live in same groups we think act differently from one another. Therefore we think each other group is wrong or blame it on their past parents, oppression, etc when in reality we are ignorant for thinking that maybe different races have different mindsets. We think based only on our own experiences and the way *we feel* and not the other way around.

What an outstanding short film. Thank you. I was especially impressed with how concise the storytelling was. I immediately understood the stakes and motivations for the major players, without interminable backstory fill. The couple are in love, machines don't necessarily know they are bombs, there aren't any "bad guys" here but the stakes are so high that mistakes can be made, the pilots don't see a person they see a machine that has just killed a friend. The effects were not just technically sound, they served the story rather than overpower it, something the Michael Bays of the world would be wise to learn. The only moment where my suspension of disbelief was challenged and threatened to pull me out of the story is when the man caught up with the action on his motorcycle before the flying machines had entered firing range. Some delaying event that would slow the aerial pursuit briefly shown or referenced (even one line, or a 2 or 3 second transition scene showing it) would have helped prevent that moment of "wait, how is this guy here so fast?". Certainly not the most egregious example I have seen, especially when compared to "main stream" movies, and his presence at the end was definitely needed for the final scene to work. Maybe that transition was lost in editing? All in all outstanding. I am looking forward to more from the film-makers, especially/hopefully a longer full-length story taking place in this world. Thank you.

This will make a wonderful movie, preferably 3D. There has already been a real case of 2 AI units speaking with each other in their OWN language, which were shut down. Stephen Hawking advocated giving AI citizenship a few years ago. They may well be the future conservators of Earth. The snippet of story was beautiful. I would like to see it blossom into a full cinematic experience.

Love the film and am enthusiastic to see a feature length version. That the characters spoke their native language was very good, gave the movie more realism. The reason the pilots ignored his commanders direct order to not engage wasn’t qualified. Why the advanced technology of the machines did not make it to their missile guidance systems was perplexing-they should have shot down that pilot in an instant. Excellent work though. 🙂 I would be happy to pay at the cinema to see this.

Phenomenal short film!! If this doesn't get approved to become a feature film, it can easily become a series. Think of the revised Battlestar Galactica series. This short film opened the door for unanswered questions, mysteries to be solved and great action/science fiction. Maybe when the machines blow - their programming is uploaded into a mainframe. The machines cannot figure out how to upload a synthetic without a combustion (which is the energy needed to upload such a vast amount of emotions, individual persona and life like an inanimate robot). Somehow in her final explosion and her husband as a witness the machine confess to him that they need help. They don't want the 2nd war, but options are limited. They probably have an AI that removes them from the moon or under the desert that no one knew about for it was fearful of humanity's response to it's existence. Please keep this going!

Lots of people saying make a feature film from this, but frankly, this is worthy and perhaps better expressed as a series. There's so many places it could go.

Simply excellent. What a very pleasant change to see an action sci-fi movie that does not pre-suppose that a certain heavily armed and arrogant country is the whole world. Nice work. Casting, camera, location, plot, cg, it's all there. Cultural relief from the propaganda for sure.

Amazing, I was riveted. The bike sequence was a bit out there reaching the girl about the same time as the jets, but to me, it was fine and didn't hinder the flow of the narrative. SFX were awesome, great musical score and music pace. The music blended very well with the cultural backdrop and the scenery was perfect for this type of short. Bravo!

Awesome, very well done. I was drawn to the couple immediately, and was emotional at the end. I have questions, but the idea of a short film is to leave questions at least in my opinion. A short is a smaller section of a full and by necessity cannot answer or explain the story completely. If it did, why would it be called a short? I would definitely pay to see a feature film. Hopefully with the same main characters

Wow! One of the best sci-fi shorts I've seen in 12 years of watching. Long on concept, long on visual interest and, in spite of the heavy reliance on bang-bang-shoot-em-up effects, also long on human interest and character. Good luck bringing this production to full term.
