It bugs me when nearly every guy posting a modular synth or tape loop vid calls it experimental or an experiment. Especially synths like the Lyra or Ciat Lonbarde, making sounds they were designed to make is an experiment I guess

Hey! “remember to keep comments respectful and follow our community guidelines.” this is especially important when someone sends you an email to a link that wanks in your face at 7am and calls it part one of their scientific study. it can seem offensive but its their style and really their niche. we are their peers, but this is not a space for review, we are here either because we performed under the te banner ourselves at some point and/or were given free product. Art and commerce have always been circle jerks, are you in or out? i know cuckoo is in! I guess I’m out, I’m actually trying to sell the pom-400, but after this video im going to have to drop the price a couple hundred. just kidding, riveting stuff guys! my favourite part was when the drummer pretended he was really focusing for a couple seconds.

Yeah you guys. I'm all into noise but that was just pure random. Like an actual ape was let loose on that thing. EDIT Just realised the market for this modular is people who haven't used a synth before so this is actually a deft and friendly way to sell it.

Honestly I’d take this over the generic bullshit that is my areas local music scene. It’s rare to see a synth let alone a modular anywhere
@leatapmicha9917
@leatapmicha9917 2 жыл бұрын
@@monotronfan1 Don't get me wrong. I would also prefer to listen to an ape randomly tweaking a synth over most "music". I like synths to sound broken and have randomness I just didn't think this particular example sounded video worthy. Then on reflection I realised this device is probably meant to introduce proper synthesis to aspirational hipsters so total randomness is probably the best way to demonstrate the sonic palette to the noob.

Fuck the haters, TE is one of the most innovative instrument companies. I don’t get the hate for their modular systems and the OP-z is the best groovebox/sequencer ever made. Everything they make is musical, inspiring imo
@leatapmicha9917
@leatapmicha9917 2 жыл бұрын
I don't hate them but I think of them more as a fashion-conscious gateway thing. I have a few of their devices. OP-1 is my favourite. But they all have too many restrictions on them. EG I bought four POs before I decided I couldn't buy another sequencer without adjustable pattern length.
@monotronfan1
@monotronfan1 2 жыл бұрын
@@leatapmicha9917 an instrument can be intuitive or comprehensive. There are different degrees, and this depends on the intended consumer but there will need to be an arbitrary line drawn by the engineers that leans to one side. I generally, do find myself frustrated with a limitation on gear but force myself to reflect on the purpose of it and the overall strengths of the instrument. Doing this many times, I usually find myself siding with the instrument creator and embracing their vision. For example my favorite synthesizer is the Nord Lead A1, a synth with an innovative streamlined architecture that put off many people. Ive embraced what it is, and understand why the limitations were implicated and while initially disgruntled I think it’s the perfect performance synth. And pretty much any instrument will sound great in good hands
@leatapmicha9917
@leatapmicha9917 2 жыл бұрын
@@monotronfan1 Yeah totally. Limitations are great. Just things like no pattern length on a sequencer like oversight. I haven't use any non TE sequencer that forced me to a 16 step sequence. Like the OP-1 is one of my favourite things but it has a kind of single project paradigm going on. So I love it completely but I have a mess of project backups that I must restore if I want to work on them. I understand they want to encourage me to mix down a finished product and move on. I guess it's not quite right for me.
@monotronfan1
@monotronfan1 2 жыл бұрын
@@leatapmicha9917 you should look into the op-z, it blows the op-1 out of the water imo. You can find them used for like $350, and once you get over the somewhat steep learning curve, it’s magical. Just make sure you address the bowing by adding extra rubber feet or some pad to the bottom. That’s the one issue I’ve got with the op-z, the casing but it is easily addressable and kept the cost substantially down
