I head out in search of my first Scottish mountain bothy. The wet and wild weather conditions as we made our way through Glen Kinglas ensured the bothy was a perfect setting for some shelter and respite from the rain.
I'll be back again one day for an overnight stay

Haha. Simon Spielberg I call him 😂. The bothy life looks ace. I’ll definitely be planning an overnight stay in one. Needs to be during winter though to get the fire roaring. Which is your favourite bothy, Robin?

@@AnthonyJohnson1 😁 🎥 Ooh, good question mate, that's a difficult one. Possibly Maol Bhuidhe as it's one of the most remote. Had a lovely bothy night with the missus in Uags a few years ago. So that's up there too.

You picked the right day for some both hunting. It’s amazing how the weather can differ from day to day or even hour to hour in Scotland. That said, the low mist makes the mountains and surrounding scenery very atmospheric. There is something about bothy’s that draw you in, it also stops your sandwich’s going soggy. 😂 Thanks for sharing.

Haha. Very true Tony. I was very lucky with the weather again as this was the only wet day, so I’d planned the bothy visit as i knew it would be the perfect shelter to sit and enjoy some lunch. They’re fab little finds. Wish we had more of them south of the border

That was superb. Rolling hills and driving rain, can you beat that when you need the bothy. I would stay in one too especially with a log fire going. Saw a student here with a notts forest flag, reminded me of your channel. Excellent as always and so was the bothy. Cheers

Thanks Kelly. It certainly was perfect bothy weather on that day. Welcome sanctuary for a lunch stop as it would have been awful conditions to eat lunch outside. I’ll definitely be staying in one some time as I’d like to get the log fire going! I’d be tempted to hide the Forest flags at the moment as they aren’t doing too well! Hopefully they will improve and start winning again. Thanks as always for watching

Hi Anthony, cant beat the sanctuary of a bothy or any old farm building on a wet and windy day, the clouds do add to the atmosphere on any walk if not the overall views, loving the Scottish vids cheers nigel

Hi Nigel. It was certainly a welcome respite from the weather. I never mind hiking in the rain, but it’s never pleasant stopping for lunch in the rain unless you have some shelter. Thanks for watching 🙂

What a difference a day makes indeed Anthony 😁 However, I must say the moody weather footage you captured was pretty awesome. Easy when I say that watching your video sitting in the comfort of my armchair! 😅 I remember how much you like your bothys. That one was almost a Michelin star! Loved the fireplace and the small library. I was half expecting to see a bar in there too! 😂

Thanks Patrick. It was certainly perfect weather for seeking out the refuge of a bothy. They are well kitted out, apart from the lack of electricity, running water and central heating that is 😂

Hi mate, I’d be up for a trip to Scotland for a bit of camping and staying in a bothy with you. Looks like we’ve missed our chance this year for a camping trip with one thing and another. Hopefully I’ll stay injury free next spring/summer and we can get out for our elusive camp together. Another great video although weather looked a bit pants. Looking forward to the next one. Take care Rob
@AnthonyJohnson1
@AnthonyJohnson1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob. We’ll definitely get that camp in. I’d plan something for the winter but my tent and bag just aren’t up to winter temperatures. I would invest in some but winter camping doesn’t massively appeal to me due to the amount of time you have to spend in the tent. I see your Everest base camp trip is fast approaching. Hope you’re taking the camera with you on that one. Will make for some epic videos

I think bothies come as quite a novelty to many walkers from South of the border....they do to me anyway. I fancy staying in one too. My only concerns would be mice nibbling my gear and/or big spiders! 🕷🕸🐭🐁🐀😬
@AnthonyJohnson1
@AnthonyJohnson1 Жыл бұрын
Haha. There was certainly evidence of spiders having taken residence 🙈. The Scots are so lucky to have so many. I suppose the remote nature of Scotland lends itself to them. Wish we had more of them in our neck of the woods
@jimmys60ny
@jimmys60ny Жыл бұрын
Not really. There are quite a few in Northumberland. It must be quite a novelty for people to think that there is a huge area of England North of Hadrians Wall.
@ChrisJB
@ChrisJB Жыл бұрын
@@jimmys60ny I'm familiar with some of those (done a bit of walking in the Cheviots, Kielder, Northumberland coast, etc), and further south, Greg's Hut, Mosedale Cottage etc. Saying that, I still do see Scotland as the natural home of the bothy even with outliers in England and Wales.

Very nice - I'm curious are the bothy's first come, first serve or do you need to plan ahead and have a reservation ?
@AnthonyJohnson1
@AnthonyJohnson1 Жыл бұрын
The ones I visited were all first come, first serve. I think they can get quite busy at popular times, but Scotland has very relaxed rules around wild camping, so you could always pitch a tent near by if one was fully occupied
