That looks really, really good. The sanded black look is just right. Grats. I'm really surprised that anyone would fake SKX, a $200 watch. Not just fake, but put a different movement in it. That's impossible to catch until you bought a watch and even then most likely you won't notice anything unless you take it apart.

Jeff modded my SKX007 last year and I wore it endlessly. I recently purchased a secondhand Tudor Prince Oysterdate 34mm and have decided that smaller cases are where it’s at. So much so I don’t wear my Omega Commander’s watch anymore. This solidifies buying an SKX013 and selling my 007. Love your channel and thanks for all the bang on content.

I do appreciate your unwavering advocacy for smaller (dare I say: sane sized) watches. It's not just that I too have small wrists. It's that sub 40mm cases were the norm only a few decades ago. And the notion that this one area of personal technology (portable timepieces) has *grown* in size when everything else is becoming more miniaturized has always struck me as incongruous.

Oh nice... I always skipped the SKX because everyone has one and because it has too many flaws IMO. But having it mod is a SERIOUS option. Vids that make me go hmmmmm.....

I bought my first SKX (new old stock 007 version) just a few weeks ago and have fallen in love with it. This video has inspired me to have a go at modifying; I won’t touch my NOS one but I’ve ordered parts for a black-out build like this one. Sold my 009 for the 013, absolutely no regrets. Overall finish and QC surpasses the classic 007/009 for some odd reason (7 inch wrist here, and the 013's 38mm case is not as small as you think). And just for reference, toxic natos makes the best nato straps in the business hands down. The hardware used and quality of the stitching is incredible.

I don't think any video has made me want to get into modding Seiko's as much as this one. Between all the small details and your enthusiasm it makes me want to start a new hobby. haha!

Little tip: Put the gloves on after you open the box. Cardboard boxes pick up an incredible amount of invisible dust and dirt during the shipping process which transferred directly to your watch

I can definitely appreciate where you are coming from with this purchase. I wasn't really interested in the SKX because of the lack of hand winding. Found a modded one with sapphire glass and a turtle movement inside on watchuseek. The seller listed the ad as 'the SKX that should have been made'. I couldn't resist and snapped it up. Superb mod, the gunmetal finish really suits the skx013. It gives a look of the CWC military 1987 SBS issue....😊

If you will lubricate the gryptillian and loosen the screw a little you can flip it open one handed. Very useful if you are holding a rope or a box or a gate or a gun or something with your right hand. You can flip the pocket clip so it carries in your left pocket.

Stumbled across this channel by accident, and appreciated the honest reviews on watches maybe not as prestigious as some but worth buying. I own two Citizen watches one a dress watch the other a chronograph perpetual calendar which I have worn for the last 7 years, both are eco-drive. However you got me interested in the automatic watches so I took the plunge and bought a SKX013 on a jubilee bracelet. Lovely looking clean watch and a better size for my wrist. Had it a month its keeping excellent time and I am really glad I bought it, was 176 quid from Amazon, just wish I'd waited as will be on my biannual trip to Baltimore next month and would have been cheaper!!!! Anyway thanks for getting me interested in the subject, Cheers!!

I just purchased a SKX013K1. I'm going to wear it for a short while and enjoy it original. Then I'm sending it off to be modded for sure.

I’m not a huge fan of Breitling but love the Navitimer, I could definitely see myself buying one sometime. That model SKX is lovely, Jeff did a sterling job. Funnily enough I did not own a Seiko until today I just had an SKX007 with jubilee style bracelet delivered, first impression is it’s quite a nice watch and very comfortable to wear. I was going to buy an SKX but then I came across the Seiko srpc25k1. I had to go with the Seiko srpc25k1 with the very beautiful deep blue dial and black and blue bezel. Love your vids my friend!!!

Yeah! SKX013 is much better for me, with 38mm it is looking good on my wrist, and I was born on 13th, so that number means more to me, than usual. Not that 007 doesn't have symbolics too, and it is great watch also, it is just too big for me. That said, I must compliment the awesome mod those guys did and I really envy you for that awesome 013 Seiko. I know I am late to comment, but then again, I had to give a compliment. Really beautiful time piece.

I have been bitten by the mod bug now TGV. I have decided to build a tribute watch the the late great Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter. I have always admired his zest and passion for doing what he loves for a living. We all should strive to do that and embrace life with his passion. Anyway, I have already found an SKX009 online and it is on the way. I have contacted Jeff and we will see if we can collaborate on a design together. Thanks for giving me the push to go ahead with this and I will keep the Gentry posted on how the progress goes. Again, I look forward to having a watch dedicated to reminding me to go full speed chasing my dreams. It is life lesson I strive to always emulate.

To be honest I don't usually get on with your vids, but this is a fantastic project and you've got a gorgeous watch there.

Excellent choice that watch is a work of art and Jeff is clearly a master craftsman. I’m an SKX013 wearer - small wrists too! Mines also on a NATO, black with silver metalwork matches watch nicely. The only improvement I would make to mine is for it to be hackable. Other than that I absolutely adore my SKX013.

Great looking watch, but the fact remains that a hackable, windable SKX with a sapphire crystal is just not a real SKX, without all the charming “faults” that reflect the model’s history and make it such a classic, iconic watch.

Hi TGV I find it such a shame that you had an experience like that with your “fraken” seiko that came from GB. And I fully appreciate you protecting your fanbase and looking out for the community by alerting people to such issues and experiences. These type of acknowledgements and hints are really a testament to the community and allow for us all to enjoy this great hobby/lifestyle. But I think your blanket statement is lacking in structure. : “please beware of seiko skx especially 013 from the United Kingdom, they are not genuine seikos They have seiko parts but they’re mostly more fake than anything else.” We all run the risk of buying something that is not genuine, whether its from the UK, EU, USA or Asia. We are aware of “regions” that are renowned for their replicas, fakes, frakens and what have you. Now I’m not saying that you didn’t have a bad experience, however I know plenty of honest businesses that do ship bulk goods to Great Britain and ship from this part of the woods in order for clients around the EU to get a great price on watches without having to spend a huge surplus on customs charges which they could avoid. Some of these people are admittedly profiting a good amount from such business but at the heart of it are offering watch enthusiasts and newcomers to the hobby great pieces of kit at a competitive rate. So please be wary when a channel and a collector such as yourself , with such a loyal and large fanbase.. makes a sweeping statement that you could potentially damage businesses unknowingly. You are in a position of power whether you wanted it or not and it would be good if you kept in mind that when making such remarks. While outting the original seller could be an option, I'm not one to "lit the torches and grab the pitchforks" and if you're not willing to contact the seller (understandable after such a significant amount of time) and resolve your experience, then you really should just leave as a general caution when buying watches from unauthorised dealers and leave it at that. I hope that comes across as I intend it, I'm not trying to knock what you do or be malicious in my message, as I'm sure you wouldn't want to have your comment construed like that either. But as a English gent I'm sure you wouldn't want to knock any English business that is doing right by their customers. ------- And before anyone wants to defend it all, please don’t get this all twisted. I, like many other viewers will most likely take it with a pinch of salt but we live in a day and age where people will most definitely follow blindly especially when a well respected member of any given community makes comments. Great watch mod, the 36 mm Case diameter are very very nice. The Lumed rotating bezel is perfect.

Truly the ultimate SKX. I hope the lume on the bezel is durable. Seiko could easily put a hand wind movement in the SKX. I guess they do and call it the SRP779.

Something off topic: You talk a lot about shops where you get your watches fixed and all but I've never heard you talk in depth about maintenance and fixes. Maybe you could talk about this in a video like what to look for to know something (or what) is wrong and potential costs.

This video made me purchased 013 over 007 . I have a 6.3inch wrist . Today i just received the watch. At first glance it looks like a ladies watch i thought i got a fake cause it looks so small but it is the 013 . I hope i could try on 007 to make a comparison but unfortunately it's discontinued so i can't find them in shops . Hope i can try to fall in love with this small guy .
