If a poor person has 3680 €uros "left over" for a Tudor Black Bay 58... ...then I finally know that there is no more need, no more hunger and no more misery in the world.

My dad was issued a Timex by the US Army when he deployed to Panama to teach jungle school in the 70s and 80s. He wore it until it died in the mid 90s. Looked very similar to the current Expedition but made of cheap plastic. His crystal was just acrylic plastic that yellowed with time.

It's 2024, and I am planning to buy a BB58. I can't find a single fault in that watch. It has become its own unique style despite its past association with Rolex. Anything rolex is overhyped, in my opinion.

I just bought the GL0166 yesterday. One of the last for sale in the world it seems. As another commenter stated, it was an instant must-have watch the moment I saw it. One of those rare moments of just knowing. Since getting into watches about 7 years ago, my price point has escalated far above Glycine territory. Not from a snobbish standpoint, but simply because I'm fortunate to have the funds to pursue pieces with a higher level of finishing and horological muscle. Most of the more affordable pieces have moved along from my collection in the past couple of years. They just were not able to get the wrist time over the more compelling watches. I travel a lot, as well as doing business more globally, and I find the GMT complication by far the most useful complication. I have some fantastic GMT watches, but with the world getting a little less sane every day, I had begun to think that something a little less enticing on the wrist would be good. Finding something that isn't known to thieves, or even looks like anything that might be of interest to thieves, was the first criteria. I also wanted something that wasn't just a modern amalgamation of watch parts put together by a company with no history or horological connection. I knew that something just on the wrist to tell me the time would feel soulless and quickly be moved on. Glycine certainly fits the bill for a piece of horological history, particularly for someone specifically wanting a GMT. Sizing was key as well. My weight and frame seem to lend itself to more substantial watches. 44mm in something with a bezel is a sweet spot for me. I often look at my Explorer II on wrist and think it looks a little dainty, especially if I have been cycling through the Panerai part of my collection recently. The GL0166 has the perfect dimensions. While I appreciate a generous diameter, a watch that is too thick quickly loses its appeal. I had a Deep Sea for a time, but even though the 44mm case diameter was perfect, the thickness was a deal breaker. As to the bronze... I have always been intrigued by it, but knowing how particular I am about the condition of my watches, it seemed like the patina effect would cause my OCD soul more than a little distress. I have added a few precious metal pieces to the collection this year and am really liking the bling factor. Contrast that with something that will begin to resemble a piece of ship's hardware pulled from the deep and it is easy to see the mismatch. However, it just "works" with this watch. The vintage vibe. The tool watch aspect. Not only that, but my original criteria of not wanting some desperate criminal to have a reason to try and knock me over the head would be well served by a watch case that starts to look like it might have been rescued from a surplus store in an alleyway in Saigon. Its not perfect. The base grade Selitta will probably irritate me a little for its accuracy, but that is a relatively easy fix. The syringe style minute hand is too long so as to almost eclipse the minute track. The GMT hand could also be better. Perhaps those are nods to the vintage-inspired aspects. It should be here next week, ready to join me in some dodgy parts of the world!

Hi TGV Great video and great content in general! I just pulled the trigger on a 76213 myself and this video is a big reason why. Can you perhaps tell me where you bought your aftermarket jubilee bracelet and do you have any recommendations for a great aftermarket jubilee bracelet from a European country? Love from Denmark /Alexander

Apples to bowling balls in my opinion. We're comparing the PRX to a watch that is literally twice, or more, the cost depending on what iteration you go with, and to a watch that does not have larger case size offering. I shutter to think what Tissot could do with a $1500 price range.

C'mon Marc. Tudor is great. It is what Rolex was before turned into bling-bling posh jewellery. Tudor doing some good things lately. They are slowly listening to the customers and improving their designs (metas certification on the way). Future looks good for them. I'd love to have a Pelagos but I'm currently broken :D

I don’t think the prx is so bad. It’s a lot of people’s skx, their gateway drug to the hobby. And I’m glad it’s getting more people to wear and talk about watches. Sure the tissot may just be a better packaged system51 but it’s a watch that people enjoy and I’m always believed in wearing what makes you happy.

I was as surprised to hear you say this watch is too small as you appeared to be to hear yourself saying it. I was very seriously thinking of pre-ordering one when they become available again. However, for a size test, I tried on a 35 mm Tissot that belongs to my wife. It's not the 'woman's watch' jibes that bother me. It's that wearing the 35 mm watch on my Mr Average Wrist Size 7 inch wrist, it looked like I'd strapped a rather nice looking button to my wrist. I'll go for the (easier to get) Super Antarctic instead; not the Super Antarctic 3,6,9 which, despite looking nice, is too obviously trying too much to look like an Explorer. A little research showed me that NG's mid-20th Century watches were 3,6,9,12, not 3,6,9 like the Explorer.

Great vid, TGV! Sandwiched between the two Cadillacs, there appears to be a hand built Continental Mark II, a car very rare because FoMoMo didn’t allow bean-counters to determine its production. I thought people parallel parking like your dad was only a conceit from films a la Godard (Pierrot le fou).
