As a shop fitter I see a lot of these old signs etc it’s amazing when we come across this kind of stuff

Absolutely. Often it's only when a shop undergoes renovation or change of owner that these old signs are revealed for the first time in many years. There is thankfully a slight trend these days to retain any uncovered old sign, and it certainly adds an historic quality to the frontage.

Was wandering around the City Centre with my partner on Saturday & was spotting a few ‘ghost signs’ after watching this video a few days ago. ⭐️

Lovely subject Ed. What skills our forebears had. Sign-writers are much valued now, because I suspect it's a dying artfrom. Yes it's heart-breaking that someone would hack off beautiful bits of a more refined and beautiful past, without a second thought. Tossed into the gutter. *sob*. It's something to be thankful for, that anything from the past is retained for us to marvel at. I was reading the other day about The White Swan hotel, ( a 300-year-old coaching Inn ) that has a dining room which is basically the saved interior from the Ocean Liner, RMS Olympic. Amazing! So I enjoyed your video very much and learned a few things I wasn't previously aware of. I remember the 'Two Ways' from the 80's, because it's where an old pal of mine used to drink. I've never set foot inside it, but yes, it is a rather distinctive old tenement that 'sits upon' it. I've always called it the Rab. C. Nesbit pub. :) Fascinating that so much of what we see and take for granted is but a veneer, on top of something very different.

Hi Eddy, really intriguing subject for this video. As you mentioned, ghost signs are a great way of reliving the past history or story of a building. Unfortunately today’s younger folk don’t pay enough attention to this type of signage. Well done on surpassing 1000 subscribers, you deserve so much more. Looking forward to many more adventures, your videos provide great content and interesting information. Take care Eddy and stay well, regards, Rob.

I’ve been walking the canal in sections, it’s been nice seeing the various parts of Glasgow along the water, you were one of my you tube inspirations to get out and explore, so thank you for that. Still enjoy your quiet videos from home with dry wit making me chuckle. 😃

Hi Ed, I used to work in the Thornwood bar and i was told by the old regulars that it used to have cages of budges and canaries hanging from the ceiling. No idea how they would have survived the smoke in the air of the pub. Also my Grandads photo is on the wall of the Dolphin. Keep safe.

That's interesting about the Thornwood Bar. As you say pub air was pretty thick with cigarette smoke in the old days.

Well done Ed, This is very interesting. It's strange how we only notice things like this when we're older. When I talk to my sons or my grandchildren about the past they glaze over and yawn. Oh well, their time will come I'm sure. I regret not having asked my parents more before they passed away and took their memories with them. My mum was from Maryhill and my dad was from Clydebank. They must have had lots of memories I'm sure but when you're younger you're not interested. Congratulations getting 1000+ subscribers, it's a nice thing for you to have. Loved your Scottish flag, the first thing I said to my wife was, he's having a laugh at the politicians who always have a very large flag in their house when doing an interview. Apologies if I'm wrong. Keep up the good work Ed, it'll be nice seeing you out in the countryside soon. Ian and Angie.

Hi Eddy really good video I am nearing retirement and like nothing better than exploring Glasgow there are so many interesting things to see . I am from the east end originally but am now in your neck of the woods. I am particularly interested in the original street signs of which there are many. Keep up the good work all the best John PS I love the old pubs in particular!

Glad you enjoyed it. These days we seem to have forgotten the necessity of a street name sign on a modern building.
