Dang! This is great. I've been teaching ceramics and sculpture for years, but with cut-backs, I recently had to take over the drawing classes as well. The previous teacher was a superb illustrator but only taught the grid method... which I have little experience in and no patience for. So I came up with something just like this that I call the "criss-cross" method. It really works and I don't have to spend a ton of class time trying to teach kids how to use a ruler. "What? High school kids don't know how to use rulers?" Hell, they can't even tell time on a dial clock! ....But then my gaming skills are lame so who am I to lecture them? Brave new world, I guess.

Tried this method recently....Definitely less hassle than measuring out grids....Also you can keep adding triangles if you want.

Amazing! Thank you for sharing this! It is frustrating for students who are not proficient with a ruler or have math anxiety to utilize rulers. I always feel bad when I'm teaching art and if I make those kids stressed about grids. THIS IS GREAT!

Thanks a lot... I was wondering if there's a easy way to grid a canvas? I hope this will save me so much time and energy... thanks so much for this tip.

I find I still need to take measurements for the horizontal and vertical lines to make sure they are perfectly parallel to the relevant edge. Otherwise there can be a bit of tilt either way. Great tip! I shall be using this. :) Thank you.

Brilliant. This is so simple and quick. I think of the British flag for some reason only landscape instead of portrait. Thank you. I shall now do my giant parrot.

This is great. I have been trying to find this method to refresh my memory from my college days. Cannot find my old textbook. Now that I am in retirement and have the time to draw more. Thank you.

My kid, too, who does incredible freehand drawing, but wants to get the proportions right. But drawing the grid makes her want to scream.

I've used this method for years but your video is incomplete. There's an equally easy way to make sure your two rectangles are proportionately the same size plus easy ways to make sure your horizontals and verticals are really accurate (yours aren't) and really easy ways to continue the grid so that you can get into really detailed areas. (Art teacher here.)
@katgarrett7363 жыл бұрын
Jan Miller, can you explain how to make them proportionally correct?
@TeknuAddict5 ай бұрын
You are rude and unhelpful. You claim his video is incomplete but it's certainly more complete than any explanation you've given us, which is none at all. Don't criticize the way others teach something if you can't be bothered to do so yourself.

Your proportions are not accurate, you're transferring a square image onto a rectangle, your image will be elongated. The concept can work.

Hi If i want 100% accuracy for enlarging or reducing the photo sketch the only way is to use grid method ۔ Othaer short cut methods may change the result ۔ Hence Grid Method is foolproof ۔😄😄
