This video discusses how to enlarge or shrink an image, as well as draw accurately using a grid system to compare shapes, angles and values. Watch part two to see the completion of the drawing!
Using a grid system is a great tool for anyone seeking to improve their spacial skills and accuracy in drawing.

This is SO helpful. I have been taking classes for years from a woman at a local art supply and she has tried to teach me how to use a grid but THIS really helps explain it. It will also help me when the reference is not particularly well sized for the canvas. Using the math really does help and I am math challenged. Thank you SO much. I am sure my art will improve going forward.

You could print it, or if you don't have a printer, save the image and open it in a photo editor (MS Paint, Photoshop, etc.) and draw lines digitally every inch.

Nice explanation of the grid method. I know a lot of people like the grid method, but for me it seems a bit clunky drawing things in such small pieces. I prefer using a proportional divider and a small ruler to measure distances of shapes. Then start drawing very loose and light, making changes and getting tighter and darker as I progress. I do think the grid method might be a good choice for transferring your drawing to a canvas prior to painting however.

I agree. I work in the way your explained, but this is a helpful method for younger artists as they are learning to see proportions!
