A Small Fire on a Winter Day

On a hike in the woods I took a brake and made a small fire for the coffee pot. I like to make small fires, being able to sit close to the fire, and not wasting fuel. And the mark on the ground that you leave will be less noticeable, and disappear faster.

I really wish that other outdoors channels would watch Eric's little fires, because I'm fed up with watching their giant bonfires to just make a coffee or noodles, it's ridiculous, it's like a genocide on the forest and it's insect hotels.

I love your quiet, peaceful way of walking in the woods. Thumbs up. 👍 I like to do the same on our farm in Northern Ontario. I will pack coffee and lunch ingredients and cook over my twig stove. Winter is special as I love to see the various animal tracks in the snow.

This video made me want to do the same thing. So I've just came back from the mountains. Took the firebox and made a cowboy coffee on it with my Trangia kettle. I was surrounded by snow and the spruce forest. It was great.

Fascinating transition at the campfire from eating a sandwich to pulling the kettle from the fire, through the smoke! Appealing still shots of whitened trees and fallen wood. Thanks for sharing Erik, nice fire making. I made a cook fire at barbecue ground in our town woods yesterday, roasted chestnuts, bread slices, some lamb meat, roasted tomatoes, raw veggies. Herbal tea on a bushbox. Some snow only in some mountain areas here. No snow in town so far. Hug n' cheers from Chris.

Erik, you seem pretty knowledgeable about the natural world there. How far north can one go before these deciduous trees become scarce: oak, ash, linden, maple, and elm?
