There are two types of Olympic weghtlifting bars. One is bigger than the other. But why is it only for women? Why men with smaller hands are not alowed to use it on competitions? What are your thoughts?
Here’s the strongest woman of all time, Tatiana Kashirina.
And here is Naim, the strongest man of all time, well, in his weight class.
They are lifting almost the same weight.
But look how their bars are different.
Though Tatiana lifts just 3 kilos over Naim, her bar is almost fully loaded. Whereas Naim has plenty of space to add plates.
A fully loaded men’s bar looks more like this.
But why does a women’s bar have a smaller load capacity?
It is connected with smaller gripping diameter of the bar.
Look, gripping length of the bar is the same, while diameter is smaller
That results in bigger elasticity. It’s a women’s bar.
Imagine how it would bend if the loading area was the same as men’s.
What I don’t understand is why the bar is called women’s. and why a lightweight men cannot use it…
They don’t need a full load anyways and their hands are likely to be smaller than the hands of a tall super-heavy… woman.
