That was an unbelievable lift, it was beautiful to see how he set the crowd on fire with that one, perfect ending to such a great video. I think they should listen to the giraffe here and start using those type of angles for weightlifting features, the classic front angle gives such cold vibes and the feeling that the lifter is out there moving weights for no good reason lol

Matthias Steiner had the most emotional lift ever in my opinion. His wife died during his prep for olympia 2008. He was on the verge of losing - after the snatch he was only 4th. Warming up he just failed 230 something kg and then butchered his first attempt at the clean and jerk at 246kg. He then hit his second attempt at 248kg and already had a podium spot. Now it was in his own hands. He could win, if he hit 258kg (10kg jump) and he hit it. It is incredible to watch. It doesnt get more emotional than that imo. On the podium he held up a picture of his wife. He also won "german sportsman of the year" in 2008, no other german weightlifter was ever able to win it before and after, putting him up there with Michael Schumacher and Boris Becker.
@christianwijaya69063 жыл бұрын
I agree with this ,Steiner only 4th on Snatch phase .When Training ,he missed 235 and the coach made decision to start at 246 and he miss it again .He make the second lift at 248 and secured Podium Silver at Moment .He barely take 10kg Increased after Scerbathis failed to catch Steiner so Silver guarenteed .Steiner made the 258kg make his total 1kg more than Russian Lifter

Yeah, I don't know who decided that weightlifting must be shot from dead straight on, but they're fools. Takes so much of the nuance and dynamism from the lift. And don't forget the pointless extreme close up while preparing for the jerk, causing us to miss most of the jerk. They've been doing this shit for decades, presumably because that's the way it's been done for decades. Even though they use the far more interesting angles for replays.

@AfferbeckBeats3 жыл бұрын
It's worse, encouraging simply matching a total instead of you know, lifting more weight in the sport of weightlifting. Puts the focus on insignificant differences in bodyweights. Makes weigh in more of a gamble than it needs to be. Getting rid of the bodyweight rule is one of the best rule changes they've made.
@tbpkenobi81183 жыл бұрын
@@AfferbeckBeats yeah I agree, if an athlete wants to win, they shouldn't be able to just match a weight, they should have to put more weight on the bar
@JohnWL3 жыл бұрын
Old rule was very lame. Only makes any sort of sense in the SHW classes. The new rules makes the end of the C/J session much more exciting. You can't just match weight which makes jumps more risky.

You can watch the full competitions and see all the warmup room stuff between attempts. And if a documentary sbout 2014 worlds was made, I'm sure a lot of it would focus on doping. It was quite absurd how Kazakhstan had I think thirteen doping positives, paid a half million dollar fine, then hosted worlds the year after, from which resulted a ton of world records, and no doping positives. Or at least not til years later on re-tests.
