We used to go to Grover state park near Markleville to go to tge hit springs. The Hot springs swimming pools where destryrd in the Caldor fire 4+ years ago.

Sadly, the cafe/restaurant that closed Aigust 2023 evidently never re-opened. You missed their wonderful County library...

Loved this story. I have personal family history in this immediate area. Paynesville Ca. North of Markleville is named after my great great uncle Frank Payne. It is a lovely area of California. Thanks for the story Chris!

Markleeville: the smallest county seat in the hardest county to live in weather-wise. God Bless the people that live there full-time though. I've always said that the mountain people are some of the toughest you'll ever meet, but these mountain people take the cake.
