I lived just outside Ludington for 20 years. This must of been during the height of covid, because typically streets are busy with tourists in JUN/JUL. I still miss going there on a regular basis.

Thanks that's a fairly comprehensive view of the area, I hope you had some time to drive/walk through Stearns beach park (where the lighthouse and North breaker water are), on a warm calm sunny early morning that beach area/park is spectacular and free and a very nice walk especially after a downtown breakfast if the restrooms are open for a needed peepoo.. (also if you ever return to Ludington, the Big sable point lighthouse via a walking trail from the Pines campground in the state park is a really nice area especially very very early on a sunny morning before all the bugs start to nip at you.)

I've only had a chance to visit once. Now back in my home state, I'm definitely planning to go back. It's so beautiful! The state park is amazing! True story what you said to anyone who visits Ludington without going to the state park! 😂 It's also worth hoofing it to the light house!

@@hiyathere599 I would recommend Synders, Millers, or Naders. Miller's may not be Miller's anymore as it has changed hands and it was closed, but from what I understand the new owners are redoing it. Understand, as you probably are aware by now, getting a hotel/motel room in Ludington without at least a year's reservation is very difficult. Even a campground lot is next to impossible.

Great video of my home town. But I can't believe you didn't actually go in to the state park. Ludington State park has to be one of the best state parks in Michigan if not the U.S. Miles of hiking trails, 4 campgrounds, A huge lake with a few small islands, a Dam, Big Sable Point Lighthouse . Ludington State park could be a video series on it's own.

Oh sunsets have a lot to do with the west side of Michigan even cake on the beach. But when it comes to Ludington one place always comes to mind the house of flavors. 85 in of snow that's silly. I come from Comstock Park a little further south like an hour and a half. We get 105 in of snow Winter is fantastic in Michigan not hot not humid it's brisk. Our temperatures range from -8 to 92 anything above freezing is warm. Oh my kidding anything about freezing is warm or as I'm concerned anything above -15 is warm. Come visit us anytime of the year. Just think on Labor Day weekend you can walk the Mackinac bridge I have done at 18 times.

Nice video. When I was in the Army in Korea in 1973-1974 (142nd MP Co.)... one of my friends was from Ludington. I only remember his first name.... Chuck. He would be in his late 60's now... I'm 69 and Chuck was about my age. We were both really young then... early 20's. He was very good looking. I'm gay, but we never did anything way back then. I wish I would have kept in touch with Chuck. You have a very nice town.... must be a wonderful place to live!

@LTBudd
@LTBudd Жыл бұрын
You do realize that if that was true, the population would constantly increase. But as noted in the video, the town has decreased since the 1950s and remained steady since the 1990's. Thus, what you said can't be true because the majority of young people leave Ludington for higher education, and the trend is typically that people who go to college (university) tend to remain in that town or move to where they eventually obtain employment in their career field.

Pure Michigan... "pure" as in "not much to see or do". There isn't one decent hotel there, let alone a resort. Unless you like to tent or RV camp in the woods, it's off limits for those that want to stay clean and dry during their vacation.

Or someone that’s very high class. This place is beautiful, the people are down to earth, they have motels that are just fine. Michigan actually has some of the most outdoor activities that are free. It’s definitely not off limits for people who want to stay clean and dry that’s just a crazy statement

@@abigailheil4462 Exactly. Much of Michigan is absolutely stunning, and caters to the "everyday" person, not always to the uber rich(there is TC and Harbor Springs if that's your lane). If by "not much to see or do" radby means vast forests, rivers, crystal clear lakes, and some of the most beautiful freshwater coast on Earth, then I guess yup, not much to see or do. Personally I'll take the forest over some flashy "resort" any day, anyway.

there are some upscale b&b spots in town, and some very high-end Airbnb options. There are are also resorts nearby (20 min drive) north and south. If you're looking for upscale AND cheap, good luck finding that anywhere ;)

This is so off. There's Sauble Resort on Hamlin Lake to start. One of the three oldest, continuously operating businesses on Hamlin Lake, having begun business as Gatke's Hotel and Resort in the 1890's. Over 20 furnished, well-maintained cottages (2-4 bedroom units) overlooking Hamlin Lake. Besides the local hotels, Nader's and Miller's (name may be changed) near Lake Michigan, there are numerous hotels along Ludington Ave, including national chains as well as locally owned establishments. In the video, you go past numerous hotels that I mentioned. What you do, is up to you, but most people relax. They find a spot, throw down a towel or two, catch some rays and relax all day. If that's not to your liking, take a trip south of town and visit the Reservoir. Once the largest man-made reservoir (now the 2nd) it's used to power the grid at night. After that, visit White Pine Village and the Mason County Historical Society right down the road. Visit the Ludington Maritime Museum a block down the road from Stearns Park. Need more? Take a short trip down to Shelby and visit the Silver Lake Sand Dunes where you can ride the Mac Wood Dune Rides. But again, what most people do is relax and unwind for a week.

@@LTBudd ... everything looks like 1930s... compare to Europe, South America and even other parts of US that have shoreline. Michigan is underdeveloped. Establishments have "resort" in the name but they really are motels with a playground and pool... and pricey too!
