We review the Soft White Underbelly's first video interaction with The Whittaker Family. This is the first in a series of reviews on The Whittaker's videos. Please support Mark Laita and the Soft White Underbelly team as they explore difficult topics. A link to his channel is below.
The nature of this review should in no way be construed as exploitative. Although experience extreme poverty and mental conditions as a result of the inbreeding, the family appears to live a happy life. They have each other and that's more than many wealthy, high-achieving families.

They seem happy. Isn't that all that really matters?!? Just because they don't live in a fancy house etc., that doesn't make them any less than anyone else!

They are a great family and I love the core group. I can easily see myself sitting on a porch and chit-chatting with Ray and Timmy all evening. I did that growing up with some mentally challenged folks that went to our church. They have the purest hearts, but it does take some finesse to communicate appropriately.

Please get the name straight when you talk of the people. The matriarch is Betty not Lorraine. Loraine doesn't talk. Betty is the one that does most of the talking. Appreciate your videos. I've been following this family through Mark's page until I came across your page😊

Yes, I didn't realize the mistake, but yes, Betty is the glue for the entire family. I can still hear Betty calling out to Lorraine on one of the videos. Thanks for the comments. More video's coming soon.

That's the interview from soft white underbelly the guys that do documentary interviews. Not quite sure why you said you were the one who did this photos or video unless I'm not understanding when you said you took the pictures

I think Larry seems to be a little smarter than kenneth. Larry seems to be spending the money as well. He bought a truck and car for himself he didnt get the car for Betty. He seems to be going places but who knows what he is in to. But dont trust Larry and ken either. They both seem to be there for the money. I think.

I'm not sure it is still active, but there was a GoFundMe set up. These funds went to help improve the housing situation as well as basic needs. I hope to post other video's today/tomorrow and will add the link to the GoFundme (set up by Mark/Soft White Underbelly team) if it is still active.

I dislike how you lump all Southerners into the sad behaviors of the Whittakers. ie: inbreeding in WV & TN. Unfortunately inbreeding happens in many areas of the US & the world. Appears you are stereotyping Southerners. Btw we don't consider WV as Southern.

I’m actually from TN and lived there first 22 years of my life. I’m not stereotyping anyone and actually have major respect for the family.

Yes, I agree WV isn’t really considered part of the south (I feel same about Texas even though some people lump them into the South), but I feel WV people are a lot like the typical blue collar, hard working people of Appalachia. :)
