Okay… being a boomer used to dealing with old school analog tuning, I confess that I have absolutely no idea what all you did to electronically solve your idling problem, but I somehow managed to enjoy every minute of it. Go figure. Charlie and Angel cameos are always a win. Thank you as always for the video! 👍👍👍

The idle problem was because I had a bad factory PCM, like I diagnosed in the previous video.

Elec tuning vs mech tuning is the same thing but all the terms are all different enough to make you feel like a virgin all over again. Just like DSP vs analog audio and RF. You could be the shit with analog but jump to DSP and you're back in grade school even though you're mostly doing the same thing.

The prime does not put fuel into the cylinders. Prime puts fuel pressure onto the fuel injectors so that when you crank the injectors, it has positive fuel pressure to inject into the cylinders receiving pulse for fuel injection.

There are a few of us here in Tucson that are or have used MegaSquirt. I used it on my Volvo turbos using the EDIS wheel with a custom mount for the pickup. It's a great system once you get it dialed in. Have fun with it!

The tuning stuff is interesting, and I think a fitting continuation of Gram's Ranger saga. I definitely enjoy the big stuff and big changes, but really enjoy the literal fine tuning as well! Thanks

Fascinating! That Megasquirt makes pre-OBD-II fuel injection tuning seem...comprehensible. Mahalo for the link to OG Ped Xing, too. Worth watching in addition to your videos. It has the needed background information.

Great job on the tuning adventure! I really do believe these aftermarket EFI systems and ECUs will be what keeps these older fuel injection vehicles going, and you're ahead of the curve learning how to do it.

I really enjoyed this video. I have worked in the auto industry for over 30 years and know what goes into these modern vehicles. From old school timing using a timing light (adjusting points and distributor) to using a computer the automobile has come a long way.😊

You'll get that Ranger running better than it ever did from the factory! Definitely interested in seeing the rest of your tuning process and we're both learning along the way here. Interesting to see new technology interface with an old school EFI and clean up the bugs and quirks. Great content Sarah!

Having druvin' driven a 1994 4L manual transmission extended cab Ranger for about 14 years, your persistence got the start & idle down to perfecto! Three thumbs up 😊😊

I wasn’t old enough to drive when these Rangers came out, but always thought they looked great, ended up with a 94 for my first car. Hope you keep sharing content on the Ford Ranger and other atypical vehicles for your channel.

Love those old rangers. I had a 93. Most reliable vehicle i ever owned. Keep the MAF clean, and replace the o2s when needed, these things run pretty much trouble free. Had I known about megasquirt, that would have been a great upgrade.

Yeah, I like the tuning vids! It's really neat watching all the little things that the ECU needs to learn about how the truck runs. Heck of a difference at idle; so smooth.

Great job, the Ranger definitely starts and idles like it should now. I vote for a video on continuing the tuning process for different driving conditions. Ok, part of that is so I can see the Ranger some more, but also curiosity for what all needs to be adjusted for proper engine response while driving.

I've seen tons of tuning on other channels but it always seems to require some base knowlege. The fact that you're bringing us along through your (aka Rangers) learning process is pretty cool. I've seen tuners/after market ECUs used on dynos mainly. Nice seeing how the base tune is built and then used to bring it up to factory specs. Thanks for all you're doing to bring us great content and yes for the hundredth time...I want this truck! Hehehehe

07/28/23 - completely absorbed & loved this episode on Grammie's Ranger. U r funny, a 1,2 punch. Laughed @ it was getting cold out, explaining why the rain coat. Then I cracked up when you mentioned; I feel like having fish sticks 🤣 now, I do too. However, I always have time to write a review - well...off to the freezer section/grocery store

I love these ranger body styles. I want to put a 5.0 in mine with automatic transmission. Lower it 4" and stance it. New paint, bucket seats, window tint, headlights, tail lights, bed liner... These trucks will be popular one day.

Really cool video. It would be really nice to see more mega squirt tuning videos. It boggles my mind how the EPA hates aftermarket ECUs and yet they can improve everything from emissions to performance and usually both.

Awesome that you resurrected this old classic Ranger to showroom quality (how it runs and looks). Most you see today are rusted out, dented up, parts runners. Grams would be proud !

I love watching trouble shooting, and tuning videos. I hope to learn something along the way, so when I add efi to one of my old cars, I know what to look for. Engines are just air pumps, regardless of make, so the knowledge applies to everything. Thanks again Sarah!

Yes, please! Keep tuning, we are learning. Back in the 90s I had trouble with high idle on several cars and all I could do was replace or try to manually adjust the IAC, to no avail.
