After struggling with watercolour skies I came across your video and achieved a 30 minute sketch which I am very pleased with. The quickest watercolour sketch I have ever done. Thank you for your tips. Please keep them coming.

This is a super video and loaded with great information. I have done 2 of these, and although both were pleasing, I could not get enough pigment in the sky with as few a strokes as you mentioned. As I went back and added like you did, it made my the sky very granular looking, not smooth and dark. Tried 2 different papers for each w/same result. It makes me think it's better not to use paint straight from the tubes like that. I'm going to try a different approach. I'd like to see more comments from those who have tried it and how they managed their sky along. Thanks so much. K

I am in love with your painting style! Just watching this video has taught me several techniques. I can't wait to try it. I see you don't have many videos uploaded, are you going to make more? You have so much to offer as an artist and instructor, I really hope you continue. This world is a bit brighter with art like yours in it.

Hello Helen I am a beginner in watercolour and followed your instructions. I was pretty happy with the results except for the sky, which I overworked as I can’t leave well enough alone. Thanks so much for your excellent advice and guidance!

Hi June - the thing to do is stop when you think you are almost finished - put your painting somewhere you can look at it from a distance then go back and finish it if necessary. Don't forget the fewer strokes the better

I really enjoyed this video and the different techniques you showed us! I have only painted for a few months so I have so so so much to learn. I am quite happy with the result! I added a bright orange sunset because I made the clouds too high and it looked a bit uninteresting… 😁

I seen a lot of watercolor videos on KZfaq and you're the first one that I seen staple there watercolor paper to a board.
@helenjenkinsondrew3 жыл бұрын
Easy to do - I always staple paper that has been soaked for 5 mins paper doesn't buckle with wet-in-wet and easy to remove. Note: choose a soft wood board (mine are poplar wood) and 5-6 mm thick. Use normal office stapler opened out. Good luck

Thank you - I use Jaxhair which are synthetic. I used to use sable but I guess they are not environmentally-friendly and they are sooo expensive. Synthetic brushes are really good these days just make sure they have a good point when wet

Hi Helen, Can you introduce the brushes you use. Tq
@helenjenkinsondrew2 жыл бұрын
Hi Janet - I have loads of brushes - synthetic is good, no need to buy expensive sable brushes. Use different brushes in your painting for different effects and go for big sizes for dramatic free strokes

I'm confused....the first part of your video you do an ochre wash sky but when you return after a break to dry it - the sky is violet. Did I miss something?
@helenjenkinsondrew2 жыл бұрын
Sorry - I don't see any violet. the yellow ochre looks much darker when it is wet the colour lightens considerably when it is dry
