Loose Watercolour Sky Practice how to avoid overworking, watercolor landscape painting tutorial demo

In today's demo I share another one of my daily sky practices, a seascape focusing on the sky, and talking about trying to avoid overworking your painting, in other words, knowing when to stop! I use Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper, indigo, burnt umber, raw sienna and paynes grey, and prussian blue, with hake and flat brushes and a small calligraphy brush, but please feel free to use whatever colours and brushes you like and are comfortable with if you try something similar.
My board is at an angle of about 45-60 degrees.

Love this cos i really need this extra practice. I really struggle with skies more than anything, no matter how much i try and play with paint again and again I just cant seem to get it right. Never turns out like this! Youve inspired me to begin a sky sketchbook so i can track my ‘progress’-hopefully progress cos it doesnt feel like it. Ready to throw the towel in w skies! Another gorgeous sky painting allowing the watercolour paint to do its own thing, but it needed your skill to know where to put in the brush strokes for maximum effect. Happy Christmas 🎄🎉

Thanks Chris, I mostly use Cotman tube paint by Winsor and Newton but am starting to make my own watercolour paint now

Hi Louis when I try to do a painting like this with a hake brush. I sometimes get streaks, I am using white knight paints and Saunders and Waterford full cotton paper. I don't know if it the brush, paper or paint. Any idea?
