I'm a 69 year old American who recently spent over three months traveling alone in the Philippines. I visited different areas such as much of Luzon, Cebu, Mindanao, Negros, and Samar. During my trip, I met many wonderful people, men and women alike, and many new western friends that i still correspond with. I didn't have a specific schedule and just went with the flow. If you're looking for the right woman, don't force yourself and stay away from the dating sites. Just be free, friendly, and approachable, they will find you. Walking through the neighborhoods and small businesses where the locals live is a great way to meet nice women and get healthy as i walked more in those 3 months than ever before. It takes some courage to travel alone to another country and places you've never been to before, but it's a great way to experience the Filipino culture and meet new people.

Filipinas are friendly but those who will go for serious relationship are those who are shy. By culture, filipinas are conservative especially those living in non-city areas. In getting their interest, you got to be patient with them though. Show true friendliness and kindness to family members.

I am a woman and happy being single. I suggest for those who wants to be left alone is to live in gated subdivisions ( guarded) Consider Antipolo city, there are subdivisions a level up where neighborhood mind each other’s privacy. Btw, there are women also who lives alone with good standing and just wants companionship as a relationship. I have an airbnb resort and thinking of turning it to permanent or long term boarding hub where everything is taken cared of for the lessees. Good luck to all

I am divorced in the US (about 16 years now), no family left and haven't dated for more than 7 years now, so my life is very quiet. My plan to go overseas in the next ten years is more to improve my cost of living and ability to spend time in nature. If I find a woman, great. If I do not, it really doesn't change anything about my life, as I am very comfortable by myself and when I want company, I can find it as easily there as I can in the US.

I’ve been in the Philippines alone for 4 months, changing cities every month, I think it’s one of the easier countries to live alone in Asia. My anxiety meter is quite low because English is spoken and people are friendly. Once I settle, definitely will network to meet people but will do it alone, been traveling solo the last 5 years and my preferences have not changed so far. I don’t have anything against relationships, been happily married before…but really love quiet/peaceful living without stress/hassles as I get older(47 now).

If you are an introvert, you might encounter intrusive questions from locals , especially in the provinces. If you encountered nosey questions, just smile . You are not obliged to answer all their intrusive queries. Some Fiipinos do not have the concept of respecting personal space or boundaries. Filipino society encourages extroversion, and as an introvert, this is a struggle for an introvert like me.

I had two divorces - not fun. Gave up on U.S. women, and more importantly, the US legal system. I did not want to go to the Philippines not knowing anyone, although I could, and struck up a relationship with a Filipina prior to moving to the Philippines. I made no commitments. I am recently retired in my early 70s and not big on the dating scene. I am very happy I did know someone before I came. It made my move here much easier. She has been extremely valuable to me as a translator and house manager. We may get married in the near future. Others don't want or need anyone or any help, and just bounce around. It all depends on your goals, desires, and personality.

I'd say if you're happy living alone in the West there's no reason why you shouldn't be in PH. There's a difference between living alone and being lonely, find yourself a regular place,or a few places,to eat regularly just say hi to people and you'll soon get to know the staff and other customers. Same elsewhere, say hello to stallholders, shop staff, security guards etc and you'll soon get to know people with no obligations to meeting them socially but you'll see plenty of friendly faces when you're out and about. I'd guess most guys choosing to live alone will be in a Condo, don't just walk past the staff as you go in and out so they're familiar with your pattern and remember you, one of them wondering why they've not seen you at the usual times could well be the difference between someone checking on you when you' need help and not.

Women all over the world are the same. In the Philippines you have to take care of the girl's family too plus her kids. So if you can afford to support ( not everyone can) and you exchange that for to be with a girl is up to you. I find it a big responsibility. At grandpa age I think its too much so better just date with no string attached.

The Philippines is a land of second chances for divorced and widowed men over 50, and also a great place for singles to 'age in place' with ample, affordable caregivers. Many US seniors are childless, or have dysfunctional adult children, so becoming an expat is acceptable. They can quickly burn through their savings in the US and then go on public welfare, or move to the Philippines and have enough savings to last the rest of their life and experience a better lifestyle and afford a private caregiver. I expect Western expats in the Philippines will soon number in the millions. So Steve, you're subscriber count will go up by leaps and bounds in the months ahead. God bless, take care.

Steve, this is a great topic for discussion and video because I'm facing this question myself. I've lived here as an SRRV Holder for five and a half years. One may find themselves living alone here when a relationship ends. It's doable and you have to make the decision for one's self to move on. I'm in the process of moving from Cebu to Cavite where I have a church community I'm part of so I can get some support from the community. If you're living here alone you still need someone who can help you if you end up in the hospital or get sick. If you're alone you can hire a personal assistant, driver or housekeeper. There are people you can hire and you can discover that by asking in the community.

It is more than just ok to retire in the Philippines as a single man. In fact, I would highly recommend it. I love the fact that I will be able to do what I want, when I want in my retirement years. I will not be tied down to multiple obligations, nor am I responsible for anyone other than myself. You as a single man will have female friends for companionship, as well as a few trustworthy western buddies to hang out with if you feel like having a few drinks together.

My father married again after mother passed away. He was 85 or 86. My brothers and sisters opposed it, largely because of his large estate I think. But I always told them two things. "Even Old Men Need Love." And "Who am I to stand in the way of love?" I see no reason at all a man could not come to the Philippines and live a happy, contented, single life. But most of us like having a partner, even if we say we don't at first. My 13 year marriage to a Filipina seems to be getting better with every year. I wouldn't trade her for anyone. I am 69, she is 58. She has so many friends in our little town in the USA. Probably more friends than I have.

Well...I learned a long time ago that there is a difference between being alone and being lonely. You can feel lonely, even when surrounded by a lot of people. You can only be alone, when you don't have anyone else around you. However, when you are alone, it's a choice to be lonely or not.

Living alone in the Philippines is a question I often ponder. Seems like most, if not all Philippine Expat vloggers are married, or at least in a relationship. I would be coming on my own, and staying that way. Two bad marriages are more than enough. Even dating is more drama than I would care for at this age(68). Anyways, best of luck to you Steve in whichever direction you decide to go. The bachelor life, or seeking out a new relationship.🙂👍

I'm not wanting to move to the Philippines to get away from Americans I want to move to the Philippines to get away from the stress in America. Retirement in the Philippines is where I want to be. I'm married and my wife is from the Philippines. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and she is fine with me seeing friends and spending time with them. I always tell her where I'm going and who I'm going to be with. She doesn't get to see her friends very often and I don't want to ruin her fun. Sometimes I'll go out wit the guys from her side of the family. I think that there are some things that I want to do that she might not be interested in doing such as going to some WWII historical places. I have a friend who has 2 children and a husband who would enjoy going to these places especially her 10 year old daughter. These are some things that single people could do without having to date anyone but still get to go out with others. I want to go to Corregidor Island for a day trip and then come back to spend some time in Pasay since that's where the ferry leaves from and returns to. I don't want to do that on my own so I want them to go and learn about the history of the Philippines. It's a good learning lesson for me as well.

I've been living in Cebu City for 6 months Single but not celibate. I'm in my mid 50's and like my freedom. I find Philippina women to be clingy and overbearing, although that may be ok for some. Not saying that's bad, but I prefer some space. I live comfortably spending around $1.5- USD per month. I have lots of things to do. Have some Expat associates. Some healthy, some not. It's always good to stick with the good guys and dont let toxic people ruin your day. What I've found is that after the initial culture shock wears off and you begin to roll with some of the peculiar aspects of the Philippines, there's what i call "Expat Culture Shock." Youre going to find yourself with a diverse cast of characters. But no matter what, inmho, isolating yourself is the worst thing you can do here. Thanks for the advice Steve on having getting an attorney by the way. I definitely have that on my to do list.

Hi Steve! I'm glad you took a break and got some rest. I watched a video of a American Man who was in a wheelchair. When he finally told his girlfriend that he had been chatting with in the Philippines for awhile that he could not perform sex she was so very happy because she said she always wanted to be a Nun. They ended up getting married. Both of them was very happy together. The gentleman should pack a bag and go to the Philippines for a few months and see how he likes it. I think people need to quit worrying about being so called normal. Who’s normal. As long as you are not hurting others with your bad behavior don’t worry about the rest regardless of where you are. Nobody I have ever met had all the answers. Trust your gut. If you can’t make good decisions ask family or friends for help. If you’re physically challenged know your limits and don’t put yourself in danger or a bad situation. Always have a escape plan should you need it.

People are very caring and may try to befriend you. Some might even be thought to be intrusive. You might like to find a place that is farther from neighbors or when people come to say hello and such, you could honestly and respectfully say that you are a loner and are very uncomfortable with people. With some people you might need you to be very assertive about your wishes. If you are not seen out for several days, people might come by to check if you are ok. Just explain that you are uncomfortable with people and may have to repeat that several times. You might also find one friend who will explain to people in the community that you are a loner and prefer to be alone. ❤❤❤❤

2 cents. The physical attraction will always be there, it's in our makeup but being single is a choice. I do think that us older guys do look forward to having a companion, who is younger than you in a relationship for that single reason, the later years when the agility isn't there, simply said, a nurse maid.....great conversation and it does make one think😂. I'd also think east Asia would be the wrong place to go, too much distraction which is the straw to break the camels back. One might stay single for awhile, but man will alway fail, the apple, its bibical.

I've been over a couple times and retire and move there end of the year. I'll stay single for a while and be in a city area as to me Filipinas are so clingy and fall in love in minute and province girls the worst. I like city girls as best traits of province but a little more western and modern too. There are a lot of guys dating here to, but under the radar as dating trans etc. and don't want to be open about it.

I was 27 years single because I had a devastating divorce. Refused to get married again. I dated 100 woman in the states over 20 years and got tired of jumping through hoops for American women as well as others. After dating 4 other Filipina Woman I found a Filipina who seems to be able to put up with me. I'm 64 she's 42 and I can tell anyone who cares to hear the sex isn't a big issue with us, the little blue pills and toys work well for us. God didn't just give you a penis, he gave you fingers and a tongue as well. Best thing you ever did was a video on keeping a note book in the case you die for her and family to go too. I have one in our safe and she and her sister knows it's for the time of my death. I've already given my sister in law the name of the people to contact and money to despose of my body. At 60 and out of my last relationship I wasn't looking to get involve with another woman. Something tells me if he does come to live in the Philippines he won't be single long. Good video Steve.

Welcome back Steve. Miss not seeing your videos when you take couple days off. I am in Philippines and have long term relationship and I wonder couple things about legally naming foreign girlfriend as beneficiary. Will a power of attorney cover that legally in Philippines. I want to be sure if I pass here in Philippines how difficult it will be since all my benefits are connected to us government and veterans administration as far as burial. Just curious if you could explain little more what power of attorney covers.

i prefer to be alone and away from people in fact, i have lived all alone by myself in a two-storey townhouse i am not lonely, but sometimes i do feel lonely maybe, i am happy being alone than being lots of people around i do have 6 brothers & a sister (they all have their own respective families and children) we no longer have parents i have plenty of friends (some i kept contact via messenger from time to time) and a few i get to meet in person (especially on wondrous occasions) i have a helper that visits & helps me 3 times a week to clean my house & do errands, and sometimes everyday (depending on my condition or when i travel places) i have more than 5 cats these pet cats could be one of the reasons why i don't feel lonely most of all, socmed (especially youtube, quora & reddit help me share my thoughts and opinions with other people and oftentimes, express my emotions about certain events or situations) i do not hate people, i just prefer to be alone although i feel lonely at certain time of the year overall, it's more of a happy & normal environment for me that i truly love ❤

If you are a God fearing man then getting in a relationship is profitable for you . What choice does a single man have stay single and sleep around with many women as a mature man closer to death whybwould you make the same mistakes you did as a young man now that you are older.. Sex is necessary for a man's happiness. But if you come to Philippines and think you can be a player and sleep around with many woman think again, Filipinas date to marry not to have a good time or for fun. Yes you can live alone and remain single but it all comes down to that persons state of mind. loneliness is a great companion but it's not for everyone you have to be really strong and have great mental health wich to be honest most military veterans or men that have been married and divorced a couple of times don't have We have been abused and hurt, Combat ptsd relationship ,marriage and divorce trauma. If you will live alone develop a good relationship with Jesus christ amd you should be more than ok physically alone. My advice find a humble, loyal , kind filipina and take it slow don't rush into anything. Be sure she is not a filipina that has absorbed and adapted any liberal , western strong independent woman ideologies from the social media septic tank. Or you will pay the price once again. Look for a conservative , feminine, submissive woman she will make you her king and she will be your queen.

In my experience with Asian women and older expats it boils down to financial security. There is no welfare in Philippines or Thailand.Unless the woman has a family to support her being with an older expat would be like winning the lottery sex or no sex. Nothing wrong with that as long as there aren't too many demands and they are compatible.

What is the use of buying a plot in the Phil? There is yearly rental to be paid by the relatives(if any), and if the payments will stop, they will take out the remainder and dispose in a mass grave, and the empty plot will be sold again to another and so and so forever. Hahaha.

Sir life is tough here in the Philippines, its not all that heaven as many vlogers said. Not all filipinos also do household chores but wt good communication and wt love and respect for one another, you'll going to be living great. If alone, there are many pros and cons. While you're still young, its best to be alone. But, when approaching stage when your at your later years already, you'll think you shld have had a partner. Better ask for discernment from the Supreme God before any big decision.

I often wonder about this. Most guy's seem to be headed to the Phills with the express purpose of meeting a woman. Or they are already involved in a LDR, and their new lady friend awaits them on arrival. Everything else aside, it makes it so much easier to navigate a country of which you may know next to nothing. Is it really doable to live there permanently sans a girlfriend or wife connection, with all that implies? Good topic. Thank you Steve.

yeh, its a relevant video. not all of us going there for a woman. im not. coz have girlfriend, but ill b moving there alone. im 46, and just cant afford to stay in the west anymore. prices getting out of control, need my own place, need some space, and some peace, for my own sanity. i cant rent my own place here too expensive, so not for me, been sharing with my girlfirend and young students and its no good for me. not a fan of living with 20year olds. good kids but, disrespectful, selfish, childish, dont work as a team, and too noisy. i believe the youth are like this because of the state, driving a lack of social cohesion, and brainwashing them with tech lol. also the conservative morals of the country big drawcard for me, west just aint like that no more, a shame, that shame is out of fashion, the sense of community in phillipines is huge draw card, and the islands as i love boating. it also just looks way more fun there, just cant get that in sydney, unless you have ALOT of expendable cash. while ppl here are friendly on the surface, most ppl worth knowing just dont wana really know others, unless its online, a disturbing trend to be sure, even if your a good guy, their just not interested, too busy with their phones, their tech, their jobs, and their own lives i guess, i dont want to be around such brainwashed technocrat pawns lol. also sharing with housemates also doin me no good. my mother died, then father died from the death shot, brothers arent interested in hangin out with me, so nothing here for me the way i see it. i believe the society of the west is a broken thing. and its making the people mental. id like to go there to phillipines, set up a life, learn the culture, and hopefully do volunteer work and help the filipinos there.

This be known to all Americans who wants to marry an Asian woman. Getting married to a woman in any country in Asia (except the Philippines) have to pay a dowry. Secondly, the language barrier is more difficult. An expat living alone in Asia would be better off in the Philippines, because the kindness, caring, compassionate, empathy, sympathy and generosity is ingrained among the Filipino people. Yes, there are some bad apples as in every country, but there's a lot of Filipino Vloggers now who will expose a culprit and some are white people like you can do it also. But it is better to let a Filipino Vlogger to do the exposing the culprit so you will not endanger yourself especially if you are alone. Yes, if a person is alone, it is better to adopt a Filipino family, so someone will take care of him or her when he or she gets sick, like cooking food, washing clothes, things that she or he needs while recovering. Like Paris Hilton who don't even live in the Philippines but she adopted a Filipino family to entrust her business and money and to take care of her should she goes to the Philippines and get sick, ( hope she will not get sick ). The Philippines is a better place to live compared to other Asian countries.

I think it would take me a while to get beyond a random hookup here and there. Meaning like twice a month. And yes it all works. And no im not shy around girls. But... Some of us have just dealt with women using a cheese grater on our hearts and are just super tired of it. I definitely vibe with what you're saying. And id hate to marry again when not in love. Or IN LOVE. As far as i care when i die, throw me in the trash. Its like a wrecked car IM NOT THERE IM THE DRIVER LOL But yeh last thing i need is a snooty drinking club. Kinda hoping you can steer me in the right direction and i can find ways to start visiting and setting up early for my retirement at age 50. It would be a Filipino family. My family is awfully racist and ostracized me for marrying (shock warning) - a BLACK GIRL and then movin back to the south... The NERVE LOL... REALLY BUMMED ME OUT THO.

As long as you dont mean being a hermit then why not? It is fine to be single, but you still need to socailize with friends neighbors and get involved with a church or social organization (Elks, Masons, whatever). As long as you have friends and a support group then its fine to be single.
