Do you ever start a project on a complete whim, with no planning or research ahead of time? Because that's what happened here. After sizing up and mocking up the Simplicity 8941 pattern as a demonstration for my last video, I decided I may as well make the rest of the dress. So here we are!
And a week later, I not only have a new dress (made entirely from my stash), I also have completed my goal of having at least one costume from every era from the 1760's through the 1910's. And this video is how I did it.

Ohhhh. Pretty. (If I go to bed 'on time' while mid-project, I don't go to sleep because I keep problem solving for longer than I would if I had just stayed up and worked out the problems and I feel like poo in the morning.)

So my company is sponsoring a fundraiser for the local library, and I'm making this gown for my boss (because I love her and we're that rare company that's actually like a family... I digress). I made a mock-up yesterday and cursed that bagged lining because nothing matched up, even though I'd been super-careful cutting out the pieces. Thought to myself, "I bet Lady Rebecca has done this pattern and can share some wisdom." LO AND BEHOLD. So thank you for saving my sanity and showing me that I CAN flat-line it!!!

What is it about semi-sheer, flowy white dress, regardless of era, that makes us love them so much? It's gorgeous by the way. Seemly so simple and yet so elegant.

So, I was rewatching a part of your process and my husband was watching the cricket beside me (UK) he looked over to see what I was watching....long story short, he turned off the cricket and watched with me. I said ‘you have no interest in period costume’. He agrees but said ‘She’s so cute though, in fact she’s gorgeous. She has other videos?’ So now you have another watcher! In Oxfordshire, uk x

Sitting here hand-sewing Swarovski crystal beads on a horse bonnet while catching up on my YT watch list and giggling that almost every update starts with, "Please ignore my hair because I just came in from taking [this or that] photos..." :D This was really informative about fixing things that need to be changed from a pattern, and turned out beautifully. Thank you!

If you don’t mind eyelets, you can also lace that lining panel at your bust shut. Pins are accurate and the go-to afaict, but I believe lacing is attested in period sources/extant pieces.

I wonder if the sleeves were done as two-piece sleeves, the under piece of the sleeve could be on the bias and fit tighter without binding your arm. Love that striped voile. Thank you for sharing your travails, lol, it is so real. I do not care if you are making an historical dress or a modern one, there will be some adjustments to the pattern. I am over 6'2", and so, wow, there are a zillion adjustments for me to make. Congrats on hitting your goal! You are amazing, and the dress turned out just lovely. What an interesting respite from the lavish styles prior to and there after this period.

So pretty! I love that train length too- short enough to be practical, long enough to get the right vibes. Honestly, the trains on 1790s dresses blow my mind. I’d never make one because trains tend to get all caught up in the wells of my chair, but I do live the look of them. So swooshy! And floaty! Maybe I should move my regency project up a bit? No. It’s a summer project, and I’m a slow sewist, and I need to work on my winter project first. But it’s so tempting.

I remember from one of your earlier videos that you didn't yet (at that point) have an early Regency gown; now you have that period covered! This is the kind of outfit Mrs. Bennet and her sister should have been wearing at the balls in that 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice (perhaps in a slightly heavier, darker, more "matronly" fabric for them), rather than those older styles they were made to wear. A 1790s-style petticoat would be a great next early-Regency project, as you had commented that you'd like just a bit more fullness supporting the gown than your mid-to-late Regency petticoat was able to provide. As for the gown itself, it looks like you arrived at a reasonable compromise length on the train, something you can still walk in (without having a page or maidservant tethered to you for train-holding purposes!).

When I was in high school, I went to Walmart and I purchased a pattern and I didn't know anything about patterns and I thought that the size that it said for the pattern size someone would need is going to be the same size as what I am so I was a size 5 in clothing and I thought that I could buy a pattern including size 5 and now I know that I was really really wrong. LOL because I'm actually a size 38 bust and that's so far off from a size 5 pattern. LOL
