A lot of you guys were asking about the follow up to Jakes Lawn Care, and how his half ton BOSS HTX plow was holding up. The half ton market is set to explode in my opinion, because everyone and their brother has an F150 or Chevy 1500 and could utilize a plow like this one Jake has.
Most of you guys saw Jake's first video when he had just picked up his brand new stainless HTX from Weingartz. Jake volunteered to show it off because he knew how little there was out there on KZfaq on the HTX plows. I can totally relate, because although there's a few guys making commercial snow plow videos, there still wasn't much out there for a solid resource and good information.
Jake's setup is definitely working for him, and I know he made out this winter. It was definitely a gamble, especially since we didn't really have an ounce of plowable snow in the whole month of December. Finally the white gold fell and we all cleaned up in Jan and Feb. As Jake mentioned, he does a lot of residential work and 1 commercial lot. Besides that, he's been happy with his purchase and feels like it's been a great asset to his business.
What do you guys think about the HTX plows and their versatility for the half ton market? Do you guys run one, and if so, how is it holding up? Always love hearing what you guys are using and especially the long term experiences you've had if you're running one of these. Drop a comment down below!
PS. Stay tuned around August for our snow plow training program coming to you at the Lawntrepreneur Academy. It will be epic and a great resource for those just getting in to snow removal.

Would you guys consider running a HTX on your half ton truck to keep the money rolling in through winter? Anyone else have experience with the BOSS HTX? I feel like the half ton market is wide open and this BOSS plow is actually a pretty good work horse. Lmk what you guys think 👇

2012 silverado 1500 with a snowdogg MD75 with nitto terra grapplers (no added weight in the rear either). Truck is used as a daily driver and part time plow truck for residentials under a friends business. Ive pushed 1 foot plus storms and had no issues at all. Only annoyance with the plow is mounting it and i had a high beam bulb go out after the first year with it also had the plastic snow deflector break while pushing into snow banks when it was -10 degrees. It's light (480 lbs roughly) so back dragging isnt as clean as id like it to be but it cuts just fine otherwise. Cost was low at roughly $4600-4800 in 2017. Always great videos and good luck to you both.

We had a 1998 GMC 1500. Plowed with it for 14 years. Never had a problem! The biggest snow we ever plowed was 14in. Trust me guys your trucks can handle the work. Oh yea we had a poly blade on it too.

I can tell you, I run the EXACT plow on my 2014 Toyota Tundra, same ballast as Jake. I live in snow country in central New York State. I have had NO issues plowing up to 12" of snow. Lake effect, storms, whatever. It plows like a monster. I do only residential and the plow works awesome. Hope Jake is still thriving and all is well with everyone.

I had a Boss Sport Duty, which later became the HTX. I had it on an F150 and when I sold the truck, I put the plow on a Jeep Wrangler 4 door. The Jeep handled the plow a lot better the the F150. I used it for residential drives. The plows are very lite for back dragging, but the HTX now has a down pressure option available. Boss makes it available for all straight blades. Boss just announced that the down pressure option will be available for the DXT plows.

I own a landscaping business here in northern MI, tons of snow. This season we picked up 50 new residential accounts. I didn’t want to buy another rig, so I rolled the dice on a new BOSS HTX-V and threw it on my personal 2017 Double cab Silverado. To my surprise the plow is a beast, WORKED WITHIN ITS MEANS! You quickly learn to plow a different way with the light duty plows. Sure it’s a bit slower at first, but once acclimated, I plow just as fast as I do with our HDs. I actually prefer the HTX-V. I pushes great, back blades better than any of our other plows, and also stacks higher than any of our other plows and that’s the truth! It’s lightning quick compared to most, and just all around a great plow. Again, it has its limitations as does anything. But this season I’ve pushed 12” of the heaviest snow you’ll ever see for 14 hours straight, from driveways AND parking lots, handled it no problem. Can’t say enough about this plow, great investment so far. Paid for itself in the first month of plowing, all black for the last 3 months😁😁

Anytime. Love the vids by the way. I’ve always thought I might give it a shot, but I don’t have the patience lol. I did as much research on the light duty plows as I could, and you are correct in saying there aren’t a lot of real reviews. From a real owner of an HTX-V, if you’re looking for an awesome DRIVEWAY or SMALL commercial plow, htx is it! Keep the vids coming Brian, take care.

Great video Brian, I have never ran a straight blade I prefer v -plows, but straights get the jobs done too just a little bit more time consuming! TO answer your question all of bosses plows are universal as long as you have a plow frame and lighting system you can fit any plow on your truck which is nice!

Fantastic video as always bud!!! Hands down you are doing more for the "Lawn Care Community" than most others, even with as large as always following or Sub count. I know you don't focus on that but, the only reason I'm bringing it up is because you have the ability to reach tons more ppl. The resources you are putting out are fantastic bro.!!! I think that if I had this same resources back 20/25 yrs. ago, maybe I'd be in this full-time?? Maybe partnered with someone, or who knows. You are offering to young guys coming up (and even older guys stuck in limbo) a chance to gain some knowledge and get to the next level!!! Or even on the flip side, maybe someone will see how involved something is and figure out sooner than later that it wasn't for them... Either way I give you a sincereThank You on behalf of the entire Community bud!!! Great things still to come for you and Liz, bud!!!! God bless and Dirty Jersey out!!!

Boss LED's do have a heating element in them so they won't freeze over. The Boss mount is a universal mount, it has been around for at least 20 years. So if someone has the right remote (V plow vs Straight) you can hook up to any Boss no matter the year, at least plows in the last 20 years.
@runningscout14
@runningscout14 5 жыл бұрын
The only difference between mounts is the one for the HTX and the half ton V blade is the mount is lighter duty. There might be a slight difference in the electrical. I believe a truck with a straight blade has the 11 pin electrical connection. The plug is the same just less pins. A guy with a straight blade can lift a vblade but can control the wings. But a guy with a v- blade can use a straight blade.

Yes all Boss plows are universal. You can also use a v blade controller for a straight blade or a straight blade controller for a v blade. Just all the operations will be limited to the controller. But in a pinch it will get you by for the night

Great review and update. So glad the boss plows are working well. In November of 2016 I bought a new F 350 with a Fisher XLS plow. Spent $8000 on the plow and have had the same no raise/ snow issue since storm 1 of ownership. Fisher doesn’t seem to want or to care to fix properly. Such a shame. They used to be a quality product. I am looking to change to plow out to possibly a Boss.

No raise slow raise issue. Started 1st storm it plowed in December 2016. Returned to dealer for pump pressure quill adjustment 2 storms later went back for a new pump motor Spring of 2017 went back for another quill replacement Went in for preseason maintenance fall 2017 and first storm in December 2017 no raise slow raise issue returned. Chased it all winter. Spring of 2018 went back to dealer under Fisher Corporate direction and they replaced quill and motor again. Promised a 2” raise cylinder if problem persists Fall of 2018 in November during first snow event, slow no raise issue was back. Went back to dealer and quill was adjusted again. During the winter season we would field adjust quill every hour or so of operation. All this led to electrical solenoid burning out and sticking closed causing the power cables to melt at grill connector. All of which I was charged $400 to repair. We also had to replace all hoses due dry rotting.

I plow snow on the west side of the state and a modern 1/2 ton with a good set of tires and weight in the bed would work out fine. Just a couple of things try not to load up the front axle and bind it up when turning and you might want to upgrade coil springs to handle more weight. As far as snow depth you never should let your accounts pile up then plow them get out there after a couple of inches.

@@RichTheitalianplumber That's frustrating for sure Rich. At a guess, it really sounds like the lift valve cartridge is not functioning properly. A small metal filing can cause the valve to stick partially open. Does the pump run while trying to lift , and seem weak, slow, then shut off with a trip timer or sensor? If so , and if they did not change the lift cartridge when they changed the pump, it would still be having issues. That would be the first thing I would swap out. Some of the dealerships dont really know the plow equipment very well.. and some do. We are fortunate to have some great resources for diagnosing and repair of equipment in our local area. I have this same plow on my 15 Silverado 2500hd. I think it doesn't scrape good bcuz its so light. Plow also trips very easy. I baby my htx. Its a very light duty. I wouldn't plow too much or try to stack snow with this htx. LED lights suck on it. Installed custom center bracket between both lights with a 14 inch light bar. After that, light n day difference. Factory LED lights are not adjustable. This plow needs at least 1more spring for tension.

Just sucks that Boss will not sell the HTX system for us eco f150's. I can pull 13,000 lbs with it but it apparently can't push any amount of snow???? I mean that's what the Boss plow rep just told me over the phone. Can anyone recommend another brand or am I just stuck with going a 2 inch receiver plow setup?

I'm in market to buy new plow. I've been using unimount for several years on half ton truck, would you recommend to upgrade to boss htx or stay with western straight blade. both dealers in my area aren't being helpful everyone wants to sell there product. one of the dealers recommended 2inch leveling left to the truck I don't do commercial the plow is only for my personal use. I hope I'll get an advice from you Thank you

HTX is a solid plow. You may or may not need a leveling kit, hard to say.
@tomscheider9133
@tomscheider9133 3 жыл бұрын
Get the 2" leveling kit. It helps immensely and it looks tons better, too. Go Boss HTX, I’ve had one for two seasons now and it’s a sweet unit, not a single problem and it can push some serious snow.

@@ryerob741 I was impressed how it handled the weight of the HTS (417lbs). Only thing I did was level the truck. Other than that the Avalanche did just fine for a half ton truck. Residential work and small 20-40 car lots.

The HTX mount is not the same mount as on your truck. It is a smaller mount then what you have. So you can’t use his plow and he can’t use your plow. The wiring is the same.

Buy the light from Amazon, the plate from HF, the 7 way plug and wire off eBay, look up the 7way wiring diagram. Boom. Easy. Anyone can do anything they put there mind to.
