Drugs being advertised on TV in America is actually a running joke for Americans. We always laugh when they list the possible side effects which a lot of times are worse than the actual problem they're supposed to fix.

It always fascinates me that "other countries" don't get our larger cups while simultaneously being surprised we like ice. Can they not put two and two together and realize we need larger cups not because we are gluttons, but because we need the room for all the ice we put in the cups. The amount of liquid in the larger cup with ice is no more than the amount in the smaller cups used in foreign countries.

Many Europeans simply don't appreciate how large the US is. Last month I went on a vacation from the East Coast to Nevada & Arizona. When I got back I was talking to a coworker that lives in Poland, and I said "to put this in perspective for you, my trip was about the same distance as it would be for you to go to New Delhi." He was shocked. Several years ago, I was in Europe and rented a car. In less than 2 hours I went from Germany through The NL and Belgium to Luxembourg. Four countries in less than 2 hours (and with another 30 minutes I could have added a 5th, France). At home I can drive in a straight line for 4 hours without even leaving my state, let alone leaving the country.

While a lot of Americans dont have a passport it's because they really dont need one. The US has all kinds of destinations that cover everything you might want to do. From tropical beaches, snow skiing ,mountain climbing you name it we have it all. Most Americans will never see the whole country because it's so large.

The number of peanut products is because it’s so cheap. Back before synthetic fertilizers, many crops, especially cotton, pulled nitrogen out of the soil so quickly that it had to be left wild for years to recover. But peanuts 🥜 are one of then few plants that puts nitrogen back in. (Nowadays we can also do it by adding the right mix of bacteria into the soil) So since peanut plants weren’t technically a crop originally, you could sell them super cheap and still turn a profit. As a result, lots of companies figured out how to make them useful. Peanut oil was an early diesel-engine fuel, and is still a common frying immersion. Also, peanut butter is great source of protein that would last longer in storage than meat before refrigeration was common. And now we are all hooked!

The food section was silly. They are giving the impression that American stores don't have fruits and vegetables, and that American don't eat them. All supermarkets where I live have a huge variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. And I don't know anyone who eats canned cheese or burgers with 10 patties stacked up on top of the other. 😄 As for many people not having passports, that doesn't surprise me. The US is huge, and you don't have to leave the US to experience tropical beaches, jungles, deserts, mountains, Arctic tundra. Many Americans travel a lot, but within the borders of the US. A lot of Americans also travel to Canada and Mexico, and until a few years ago, you didn't need a passport to do that. New York City actually has very good quality tap water. Not sure why you would be told not to drink it. I also don't understand the fascination people in other countries sometimes have with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I guess you mostly find them in North America (I think Canadians eat them too), but I would see them as mostly a kid thing. As an adult I might have one every now and then--and I think they taste good. But it's not something I would make often. It has been years since I've had one.

The US is so vast and diverse in natural landscapes, weathers and climates that there’s really no need to travel abroad to see this natural marvels… except to visit historical sites/cities outside of America. We love this fact, we got it all… no need for more!

I would say that one reason Americans don’t feel the need to travel internationally more is that the US is about the same size as Continental Europe, and there is such a variety of landscapes, and things to see all in one country. Also on the vacation days, it depends on the company, and the type of schedule you work. My shifts vary between nights and days, and I’m currently taking almost 3 weeks of holiday just by officially taking only 7 shifts of holiday/parental leave time because of the way my holiday syncs up with my normal off days.

Hey, new viewer, but I wanted to confirm and kind of elaborate on the vacation stuff. A ton of people (myself included) have no vacation days. We are paid for what hours we are working, no vacation, no holidays, no paid sick days. And even if you do, many jobs make it extremely difficult to use them. If you are a restaurant manager and are short staffed, for example, you may just end up with no vacation anyway.

It is a much longer trip to get out of America to another country than it is in Europe. I looked up Stockholm to Oslo - per Google 525 km. I live near Cincinnati, Ohio. To go from Cincinnati to Toledo - another city in the same state - is 325 km. At that distance, not only have I not left the country, I haven't even left my state.

I travelled the World considerably whilst in the Navy and most of Europe since leaving. I even lived in Paris for a while in 1974 but had to return home for personal reasons, but I've never found myself confused by what people do in their own Countries. I've often been fascinated and almost always interested but, confused, no.

Quick history nugget, Jefferson didn't just decide not to follow the metric system. He was going to, but needed standardized weights and measures so as to be matched with the rest of the world that used the system. The USA rules about passports meant travelers going to destinations in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean did not need a passport until 2009. We could travel with ID (such as a driving license or state ID card) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate). The rule change mainly affects US citizens when they return to the USA as there are no immigration checks when exiting the USA. Most of the countries in question still honor ID and a birth certificate. Edit: The USA does have passport substitutes such as "enhanced" driving licenses and passport cards. Most nations in the Caribbean do not require US citizens who travel there by cruise ship to have a passport if it is a "closed loop" cruise. That means leaving from and returning to the same USA port. US Immigration has the passenger lists for the ships in question so they know who who is a US citizen.

Two weeks is pretty average where employers actually offer vacation time. Many places actualy have NO paid vacation time at all. We normally have to basicly plead well in advance and often help arrange coverage for our absence

I prefer smooth peanut butter over the chunky. As far as jelly goes - that word covers a lot of things: marmalades, jams as well as jellies - it is ambiguously applied to similar spreads based on fruit content. My favorite is PB with raspberry jam or, for variety, orange marmalade. Also worth a try, a peanut butter and banana sandwich.

Americans and the lack of International Travel: The U.S. is a massive country, and has the most diversify of land of any country on earth. There is no terrain type on the planet that does not exist somewhere within the boarders of the U.S. Also we are a country with large about of tourism into it, and as such have vast number of vacation distentions with in our own boarders.

For people in the US, using the metric system is kind of like speaking a foreign language. You might be able to understand German or Spanish, but if you don`t think in that language, you still have to translate it into English in your own head before it really has meaning to you. Same goes for anything metric. I have to convert it before it really has any meaning. Maybe some of the young kids that learn both have an easier time of it. But older folks just consider anything in metric to be at best, a pain in the butt. And most have far more "colorful" ways of describing it. :-)

So, when it comes to the RX commercials I can only give you my experience. I have epilepsy. Many neurologists won’t ask their patients if they’d be willing to try a new drug instead sticking with the older drugs & then just increasing the mg taken. Also, some drugs are more expensive & insurance may not want to provide it so they kind of tuck it away until you ask. I was set up with Keppra & Vimpat originally, when that didn’t work my neurologist at the time just tried to up the Vimpat dosage. A commercial about Lamictal had me speak to my doctor & it worked for me at a lower dosage than Vimpat. I’ve used it for 2 decades now & still works.

You are correct that it is improper to compare a (huge) cheeseburger with appetizers from a real restaurant. Note the video IS correct about Americans taking home a lot of the food they are served. I normally take home about half of whatever I get from a restaurant. I have never eaten cheese from a spray can.

Some countries apply the term 'jelly' to gelatin products (common brand names in America are Jell-o and Royal). This is NOT what goes into a PB and jelly sandwich. Rather, use some form of preserves, i.e., cooked down fruit, probably sweetened, maybe thickened with pectin or similar. In the US it is more of a kids' food, but plenty of adults like them too.

I have always preferred my PBJ sandwiches with smooth peanut butter and grape jam/preserves rather than jelly. Another twist you can throw on this snack is putting regular butter on the bread first to add a little different flavor.

Ricky I've never been to Europe someday I will. But every other country I've been to have some things I thought were strange because it was not what I was use to.But America is huge. I have friends that see negative things about us and refuse to leave . I just laugh keep an open mind and travel to each there own I guess.

The entire U.S. military already uses the metric system to facilitate operations with our allies. Also, the date formatting, and, the 24 hour clock. It saves A LOT of possible misunderstandings.

As for PB&J, 'jelly' typically refers to Grape Jelly, which is sorta like jam but not quite, I've heard it's hard to find in Europe. That said, jam or any other kind of preserves works just as good. Blueberry, blackberry, raspberry and strawberry jams are also quite common and all good. I personally also like peanut butter and orange marmalade sandwiches.

As far a PB&J. First, Just want to make sure there is an understanding that what we called "Jelly" in the US, in not the same as 'Gelatin", we call that Jello (which is based on a brand name J E L L O, just like people call a vacuum cleaner a Hoover). Our "Jelly" is similar to Jam or Preserves or Marmalade. The main difference in these various names being the amount of fruit or fruit juice that they contain. That being said, PB&J (peanut butter and jelly) is mostly a food that younger people eat, as you get older you tend to eat less PB&J. Personally, I always went for the smooth PB and my favorites were usually Strawberry or Blackberry Jam. Grape Jelly is probably the most common, followed by Strawberry.

Grape and smooth is the norm but nothing wrong with chunks. Generally kids love them they are also weirdly delicious with a hot spicy beef stew .

The metric system is taught in schools here because it’s used in all sciences. We also have 2 liter bottles of Coke and a few other items. Most items have have both printed on packages, mainly because our two largest trading partners Canada and Mexico.

I have to use metric about 30% of the time. A lot of Amazon products are sold in metric, for example. I'm comfortable in both. Much of our grocery store supplies are listed in both systems, so everyone is kind of slowly becoming more metric tolerant. A lot of my camping equipment - cooking pots, water bottles, trekking poles, tarp - are done in metric. Most of my auto wrenches are in metric and I have a decent feel for converting and doing visual size matching in both systems. Hey, I even learned the size difference between British ounce/cup/pint/gallon and the American sizes. That is a weird situation. Our Presidents' Day holiday is even on a weird date because the U.S. did the Julian/Gregorian calendar switch at a different time than Britain and it was in the first decade or two of the start of the country. So there are a lot of the first presidents whose historical (adjusted) birth date is different now than on their birth documents, by about 12 days.

The issue with vacation days arises from a myriad of factors. Most salaried employees are given just 5 days their fist year or 2, then an additional 5 days thereafter until they reach 10 years of service with the same employer. It is also hard to get approval for a week off from work to use those vacation days. Most vacation days are used as sick days, or mental break days.

The reason there are prescription drug commercials in the US and not so much in other parts of the world is the US does not have a government ran healthcare system. With socialized medicine you get what the government allows you to have, with private medical systems the prescriptions can be asked for by the person because a private company is going to help pay for it. The US also pays more for prescription drugs compared to the rest of the world which allows other countries to be able to negotiate a lower price. In essence, the people of the US subsidize prescription drugs for the rest of the world.

12 days is the "average", most of us general have just major holidays off(7 days roughly a year if that) but plenty still work for that extra pay on those days. We are the land of the grind. If your smart, save and invest you can live the rags to riches dream. If not you'll grind away your life.

Just had a pb&j sandwich for breakfast, when i was a kid i was nuts for chunky peanut butter but as ive grown older i prefer the creamy version. I agree with Buddasquirrel grape jelly is a classic and a must try if you get the chance.

The most common jelly and the one most people get as kids would be Concord grape jelly! Peanut butter has to be salted and sweetened (I’m not sure if that is standard in Europe), otherwise it isn’t palatable. Whether it is crunchy or smooth is purely preference, but the default is usually smooth peanut butter. Also, in the northeastern US there is something called peanut butter and fluff sandwich! Fluff is a marshmallow spread. It’s eaten as a lunch item, but really should be a dessert.

Everyone should use year-month-day dates in my opinion. It's superior to start with the year on electronic systems where you filter by date and it seems logical if you're starting from year to go largest to smallest unit of measure.

As a natural born Swede and now American (thank you for allowing dual citizenship) the whole deal with tipping is actually not what the video is showing. Much of this is that restaurant work are allowed to be paid less than the minimum wage, but the tips are generally not reported for tax purposes (though 'should' be). Hence the staff can make more money under the table.

PB&J is so good, especially with a glass of milk. Smooth or crunchy, it's your choice, same with jelly. I prefer crunchy with strawberry jelly and toasted bread.

4:30 - Americans are actually the hardest working country on earth, with the most worked hours and the lowest vacation time. Something other countries should actually consider before labelling us all "fat and lazy". 10:20 - I saw tons of these in Asia too. I don't thinks its specifically American, especially since you can't get anything stronger than vitamins without a prescription in places like Japan. 14:00 - The problem is that 100 years ago, people felt that everyone would be able to do math. Thus, you look at the price and easily work out the final cost knowing your local tax. The problem? Not everyone knows the tax an we have a liberal education system that thinks numbers are racist. So.. everyone is surprised by math in the US. 12:50 - I self learned metric. A lot of us have. We use it WAY more than the rest of the world gives us credit. But definitely not a standard practice. This video also shows just how screwed our laws were by being a British colony.

Fine dining is everywhere in the U.S. Why travel abroad until you have seen the beauty here that exists, and that may take a lifetime to do on it's own. Nobody I know asks their doctor for a prescription drug. And those drug companies leave samples with our doctor, we get free samples from our doctor which helps financially big time

Also with vacations. Most Americans will never see even all of America because it's so huge. Every climate zone you can think of. So vacationing within the US is a lot more common for citizens

I was a State of Texas employee for over 30 years. In government jobs, the longer you work, the more and more vacation days you earn. By the time I retired, I was getting 8 sick days and close to 6 weeks of vacation days each year. Loyalty and years of service is often rewarded with longer vacation time.

Jelly is made with fruit juice. Jam is made with the juice and fruit. Preserves are made with the skins and fruit and juice. So it is just how much you want in your final product.

Recky, I worked at Major Food Brand facility( Kraft) for 32 years. I received 5 weeks a year for vacations, plus 7 sick paid days. The amt. mentioned here is not the usual.

Many companies in the U.S. will let you turn unused vacation days in for cash.

My explanation for each: 10. Tipping - This happens because usually the most positions that people get tips for those who are expected to provide customer service. It gages the performance of your server. So, yes, it DOES increase the value of the tip that will eventually be provided. 9. Traveling - Why would you want to go on vacation more than a total or average of 2 weeks? Businesses can't function or get things done without workers being there. We don't travel abroad - especially nowadays - is because travel abroad is unpredictable and there are PLENTY of places in the US to visit. Sure, there are other places in the world to visit, but even if I had a month, I would still have to spend the equivalent amount of money, gas, and hotel to stay somewhere else. The longest I have stayed somewhere is in Puerto Rico. There comes a time at the end of that stay where I am simply getting home sick. 8. Food preferences - The size options are ridiculous. That's why we are all fat!!! Our food is made of crap as well. Too much sugar. Too much trans fat. And what's wrong with peanut butter? Who doesn't like peanut butter & jelly sandwiches??? The peanut butter comes from regular peanuts and the jelly could be jelly, jam, preserves, or marmalade. The cup sizes are ridiculous!!! A medium at Wendy's is a large most other places. 7. College sports - Nowadays - because the NFL likes to take a knee - I personally prefer college sports but I really don't watch much of it. 6. Prescription drug commercials - Problem with this....some doctors don't like you asking about something you heard about on TV. Our drug companies are the greediest of all type of companies I have ever known about. We have a pill for everything. And that's a problem. 5. Soccer - Used to love it. Not so much anymore. I am assuming that when soccer and football exit, you have to have two different names. 4. We have sales tax everywhere. There are some states though that do not have sales tax. 3. When we use the dates with the "/" its always MM/DD/YYYY - However, I use military time by writing day-Month-year. 1. Drinking age - This is controversial. Why can we fight in a war and vote but cannot drink at age 18? But then again, there are alot of young idiots in this country. It has everything to do with a combination of culture and maturity. The reason alot of bars put in ice...because they use less product and charge more for the drink. Besides, who wants a warm alcoholic beverage? Especially beer. Gross.

We tried making the drinking age to 18. High schoolers were showing up to school drunk & hung over. So the government said “see? This is why we can’t have nice things” rescinded it. There was a grandfather clause thrown in that allowed the under 21 crowd to continue to drink until they turned 21 though.

Sales tax is a combo of state sales tax and city/county sales tax. So you may have 5% state tax and 1% city tax. But it is a little different in every state and city.

My favorite PB&J is chunky with grape or blueberry jelly and as others have mentioned a glass of ice cold milk. I'm 67 and still have it often because I like it. It's fun to watch people try food from other countries so perhaps include other snacks as well.

Wow! Twelve days!!! I was lucky to get 5 per year for the last 20 years. My last job gave no vacation or sick days, as most jobs now combine them both. But even when I had them, it was difficult to be allowed time off. Sure, some jobs give PTO days (Paid time off) but getting it is another story. And if you can't get any days off you lose them at the end of the year. But let's pretend this is what American actually choose.

Oh my, I grew up on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or cheese sandwiches. We have so many kinds of peanut butter. I love Michigan cherry jam. Oh yum. I started my first job as a truck driver 7 months ago. I don't have any vacation days. When I hit 1 year, I'll get 5 paid days off. It's been 6 years since I've been on vacation.

Recky, a point about Americans not having passports nor taking long vacations and not going to other countries (other than neighbors Canada a Mexico) the USA is as large as the entirety of Europe (not including Russia)! When you have ONE COUNTRY this large with unrestricted travel to any of the 50 sovereign states (each the equal of a European country) you don't need a passport nor do you need a long vacation to locate a significant change of scenery or culture with the south of the US being different from the east, the north, the west or the center and often able to find ski resorts open in the middle of summer! ALSO, we have a federally mandated paid holidays ("long weekends") every two months, on average, with two or three of these 'weekends' lasting 4 or more days! Thus most Americans get at least one week's worth of paid vacation days that don't count toward the 'corporate' vacation days; though the lowest paid workers don't always get this benefit. I hope the above aids in your understanding.

I know we call the sandwich a Peanut Butter & “Jelly” Sandwich, but most people use Jam instead of Jelly. You can use raspberry jam, strawberry jam, blackberry jam or any favorite. You can really use jam or jelly, chunky or creamy peanut butter. Many children take a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in their school lunches since schools don’t provide refrigeration for their lunches. Of course some children prefer to buy school lunches.

Grape Jelly and white bread for the PBJ. You can use smooth or crunchy. And be sure to enjoy your peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a glass of cold milk.

The advertising changed in the US when Reagan removed the Fairness Doctrine. Prior to that prescription medications, lawyers, doctors, etc. were not allowed to air commercials.

PBJ (peanutbutter and jelly sandwhiches) can be made with creamy or chunky peanut butter and be made with any jelly, jam or marmalade flavors. It's all about what you like.

Here's the thing about tipping (I own multiple restaurants). It's about the future. If you tip normally, you won't necessarily be remembered the next time you frequent a certain business If you DON'T tip, you WILL be remembered (ask any pizza delivery driver in the States) IF you tip BETTER than average, you also will be remembered and will most likely receive preferential treatment in the future. I live in Canada, we tip similar to the U.S.. We do Sales Tax similar to them as well. I was born in the States, but moved to Canada in my teens, so I use both Metric & Imperial measurements. Peanut Butter and Jelly. 2 slices of bread. Use either smooth peanut butter, or one with nuts (called junky). Spread it on one the slices of bread. Then choose your jelly, I use grape jelly. Spread the jelly on the peanut butter, place the second slice of bread on top and start eating.

We have a network of Federal and State highways. The federal government provides funding for upkeep of federal highways but the state highways are totally funded by the state. Federal funding for highways can run into the millions which would put a pretty big dent in any state funds.

grape jelly with smooth peanut butter is the usual but some like chunky peanut butter and its on white bread. It is a food given to most children (because they will easily eat it) most adults do not eat it all the time, but will for nostalgia.

I'm an American and I grew up always having the understanding that tipping is optional. This may be related to living in the more rural Midwestern parts of the country. But even when visiting more metropolitan or coastal areas I always still viewed tipping as optional.
