Thank you very much Bob. I think the addition of both VVD and Allison has been huge for Liverpool, and not just on how the full backs play. They both read the game incredibly well and are able to respond through balls with ease. It also helps that VVD is very fast which means Liverpool can be more aggressive with their positions - i.e. full backs pushing on. If you look at Man United, for example, they have good centre backs and an outstanding goalkeeper but due to the lack of pace possessed by Maguire and Lindleloff, the full backs are less able to advance even though both Shaw and Wan Bissaka have pace in abundance. City do play their full backs differently and frequently play with inverted full backs operating in the half space as you suggest. To counter this, and to provide width, Pep gets his wingers to stay very wide and for the CAMs - De Bruyne and Silva/Foden - to attack through the inside channel (where I said Mane and Salah operate). Yes, there have been some vary good "shorter" full backs. Roberto Carlos, arguably one of the best full backs ever, is 168cm tall

The difference use to be quite clear based on the formation that a team were playing. With a GK-3-5-2 the two widest players in the 5 tended to be known as wing backs because they attacked and defended the flank areas and in a traditional GK-4-4-2 for example, the two wide players in the defensive back 4 were known as full backs because they only really had defensive responsibilities. However, nowadays, full backs are incredibly attacking and play much more like old-school wing backs. It also depends upon how a coach deploys the full back. Liverpool play with overlapping full backs who could be described as wingers. Man City sometimes play with inverted full backs that end up becoming Holding or Defensive midfielders. Positions are much more fluid in modern day football and there is much more focus on the coach's philosophy of play and the roles and responsibilities that are given to each player. You could have two teams face each other with identical formations on paper that actually play completely different game models. I asked this because...I used to play as a wingback...a one who hunger for goals and assist...but the problem is that I am defensively very poor... lacking pace... So I was thinking about changing position .. to centre forward... Do you think that it's a wise decision from me ..??? coach..??

@@AMAL_vijayan it's very difficult to say where you should play without having see you play. It's try that wider players tend to need to be faster as there is more space in wide areas than in central areas so maybe a central position would suit you better but as I say, impossible to be sure having never seen you play. Sorry.

@@Pro7soccer Yes...I used to play CF when I play with my friends... It's very comfortable for me to score goals,to receive balls, to create chances...but when it comes to aerial battle, I'm a little backward, because I am short guy... Well it never bothered me . And thank you
