hello, I’m from Russia and I’m currently doing this project, I didn’t know who to consult and find out more about it, I came across you and your channel and realized that it’s even cooler than I imagined, thank you for what you’re doing, I’m already I wanted to give up this stupid idea, that’s what the others told me, but thanks to you I will continue and finish my bass six with bigsby!!!!!! Thank you ❤

Cool stuff as always. It's fun to see your transition from a hobbyist to an instrument builder. The use of the machines to make the work less cumbersome reminds me of the Peavey T-60/T-40 series of instruments. They were the first to use automation to improve consistency, and reduce labor costs. Those have a great story... although Peavey's story took a dive when Hartley retired.

Cool to see the evolution of this design, showing the iterations side by side. Much more fun to keep trying new and different things instead of doing the same-old every time. Can't wait to see how you do it next time. Thanks for sharing!

I use a bass vi with humbuckers for everything from doom metal in DADGAD with a tri-amp multi-fuzz rig to jazz combo gigs. They’re far more versatile than most folks give them credit for.

@@timsway Im fiscally and geologically (which is fiscally with extra steps) barred from getting that one from you, not to mention I'd probably have a whole bunch of weird specs to request... My ideal bass VI would be one weird instrument! So, in the meantime I've been enjoying your journey into more and more refined and personal takes on electric instrument - You've come a long way Tim, keep up the good work!

26th subscriber view about to happen... 0:56 I'd name that earliest model "The Flintstone" - 'cause Fred would really ROCK that one. Back in the era of Teisco guitars, local pawn shop/jewelry/novelty shops carried a Japanese-made brand of electric guitar called a St. George. Ever see one of those? The wood with the black pickguard is a good look, IMHO. 6:22. 8th LIKE posted. Some surf tunes in the future of any of those? (that middle pick-up).
@timsway
@timsway Ай бұрын
not familiar with the "St George" moniker, but there were so many names on those guitars! These instruments can do anything, from surf to high plains :)

@@timsway 3:01 - btw: I'd seen that Lee Sklar uses mandolin frets on his basses, so when I wanted to add frets up to the 9th on my KALA U-Bass, I followed his suggestion and had the luthier do likewise. What was I thinking - that I could play a fretless?! DOH!! Back to BassSIX. (like the play on words: basics).

It will be a little limited finding strings for it in that scale length but not impossible. You can contact me via newperspectivesmusic.com to discuss making one for you.

Its hard for me to get into the "bass" frame of mind when I'm playing what feels like a guitar. They are kind fun to use as a really "deep" guitar though.
@timsway
@timsway Ай бұрын
Yea, I think they're more "guitars" or "for guitarists" than extended range basses for bassists.

Hey Tim, you sharing the wiring diagram/schematics on these? interested to see how you've done these
@timsway
@timsway 29 күн бұрын
I never wrote it out, but picture a typical 2 humbucker wiring that shares volume and tone knobs for both. Now add coil taps to each. Then picture a single coil system with volume and tone. Now combine them with a three way potentiometer. that's the skinny.

@timsway

Not sure I know which specific ones you're talking about (NS designs) but I'm familiar with the concept and have a experimented with similar things in the past - and plan to again in the future. Specifically for upright bass.

@@timsway I figured out what they're called. They're called ATLANSIA. Very odd but cool pickups. If you do something like that in the future I'd be interested, as they don't currently ship in America!

The problem is a lot of music shops are out of business now. We used to have Sam Ash and Mars Music. Now we're basically down to Guitar center and whatever tiny mom and pop is still hanging in and the problem with that is you kind of miss out, because guitar center doesn't carry anything that isn't super common and popular.
@MangledGuitars

@@nathanjasper512 oh I've seen them, just haven't played one.
@timsway
@timsway Ай бұрын
Indeed. I'm not sure if the place for people like me expands or decreases as the music shops shut down and are bought up, but that's why I always say indie builders are not in competition with each other, but together against "the machine".

newbe here. Whats the difference between a bass6 vs. picolo bass?
@timsway
@timsway 29 күн бұрын
A piccolo bass is (usually) 4 strings tuned higher, like a baritone or tenor, whereas the bass vi is still in the traditional bass range, but with two extra strings so the whole thing is tuned like a guitar, but down an octave.

can you make one with a Floyd rose?

I'm not sure if the floyd could hold such large strings - or the amount of tension the instrument is under , even with all the springs in. One would need to experiment.
