no where near! lol. The upside to gas is you can go further and easily refill, vs shorter range and charging, but the riding experience is SOOO much better when electric.

Thanks for the video. Just to clarify: the zero is exactly the same height as the rest of the frets, right?
@timsway
@timsway Күн бұрын
It can be and I think on this one in the video it is, but I usually use a lightly larger fret (like a jumbo on a medium fret build) and when I level and crown them I skip the zero fret.

Amazing! Music, art, recycling, not harvesting rainforests for "tonewoods," FABULOUS! (I personally don't really believe tonewoods are significantly any better than simply plain old top notch craftsmanship.) And the icing on the cake for me, the handmade pickups! I love this build! I've been watching some amazing artisinal builds this cold, Australian afternoon, and this one beats them all!

Confirms to me what I always thought about tonewood and electric guitars - so little difference, if any that is detectable to the human ear that your wasting your money chasing tone from wood. Everything else is likely far more important to tone. Choose the wood based upon weight and the look you want, most everything else for tone 🙂

I applaud your efforts here. But tone wood is a piece by piece thing, and construction design is a massive element. Along with all the other variables. Design is probably most important regarding electrics.

Tone is subjective, I perceived a difference, and it led me to the tone of Douglas fir and solid core door as best or different for my particular ears. Great upload and a lot of work.😅

Hi, what was the cut pencil for?
@timsway
@timsway 10 күн бұрын
I drilled dowel holes into the body and top plate to help me align them in gluing and to keep it from sliding. A normal person would use store-bought dowels, but in my house we always have some half-used pencils that no one wants to write with anymore, so I just use those instead of buying dowels.

I would really love a CNC. I think my productivity would really increase, and would the items I could make. I really want to make my own body, but I’m so nervous in case I screw up the piece of irreplaceable vintage wood that I have. I’m almost sure I’ll screw up the neck pocket.
@timsway
@timsway 11 күн бұрын
Make a bunch out of less valuable wood first, plywood, 2x4s, pallet wood, whatever. that's how you learn and build confidence to make them when "it counts"
@thesausage351
@thesausage351 11 күн бұрын
@@timsway thanks for the advice man. You’re right, confidence is a big part of it. I have some good tools and using metal I’m quite competent at shaping etc but if I cut too much metal off, I can use body filler or weld more on. I really like this block of wood and I don’t want to cock it up, haha. I’d like to experiment more with glueing/doweling and making things out of offcuts etc as it’s a lot easier to get that wood free or cheaply and I like seeing the different grains and colours etc.
@timsway
@timsway 11 күн бұрын
@@thesausage351 like in welding, your first welds aren't going to be as strong or pretty as your last. everything takes time to learn. Don't expect perfection on your first go, but also don't let the fear of failure stop you from striving for it.

I don’t play bass, I don’t even really play guitar tbh, I just pluck around and try and learn myself but I kind of feel in myself I’m more of a bassist than a guitarist, if that makes sense. I do love building and modifying and repainting etc so I don’t really classify myself as a player as much as a builder, but whatever. I would however love one of these. I’m a lefty so they’re hard to find, but one day I’ll own one. I’m not the biggest Beatles fan but I certainly appreciate their contributions. I really also would like a Rickenbacker to replicate the Born to lose - Out to lunch played by one of my heroes.
