If you are inexperienced in the art of taking swarms, you will probably want to wear more protective clothing than I usually do!

It is so enriching to gather information from your videos but I must admit that whether from simple compassion or sympathy for fools I find it very difficult to watch you get stung over and over and calmly persist. This informs me of two things. 1. You are much more of a man than I will ever be. And 2. I would be in the hospital on a respirator after the first 20 stings and the complete exhaustion of my supply of epi-pens! I will continue to timidly admire those that can and remain amply aware that I can not. Thank you again for sharing your experience and knowledge! Great video!

I would like to share an observation that has just lately struck me concerning virtical hives Vs horizontal hives. In the former, it is often mentioned that bees in nature choose most of the time a tree, a tree is virtical thus the virtical hive is more in conformity than a horizontal hive to their natural tendency. The Langstroth or Dadant or other similar designs are virtical thus more adapted to what the bees would natural choose. I think there is something missing in this reasoning among which is the virtical element. In nature when bees choose to build their hive in the hollow of a tree they start at the top and go vertically downward while in the above mentioned virtical designs, the bees go vertically but it’s an upward virtical. This brought me to the conclusion that the argument in favor of the virtical hive designs popular today especially in commercial beekeeping, is based on a false premise. This is never mentioned. Just a thought. Thank you for your videos. Your approach always have a calming effect when I watched them.

The bees in the tree: What I did, sucessfully, already twice, is taking a large sheet of card board, making a bigl slit into it to slide over the tree stem, forming an inclined plane, folded the end into a funnel leading into a box, and than vigurously shaking the tree

Pretty sure the cats are already in charge ... at least the cats I've met seem to think that they are.

I'm hoping to start beekeeping this year. I have a new top bar hive made for me by my father in law. I have to say I'm not looking forward to a bee in my ear. How on earth did you stay so calm?

A bee in your ear can only back out, so is unlikely to sting! Also, what else could I have done?

Loved this! A couple of possibly impossible to answer questions re the swarm in the tree. If the majority of bees were already in the skep, and nazanoving, would the queen then come down of her own accord, or would she most likely stay put? And if they hadn't all started rushing into the skep, but gone back to the tree yet again, what would you have done? I'm also wondering about the likelihood of killing the queen vs actually getting the job done. Is this a large risk? Great work. Thanks.

Is it worth it to condition the interior of the skep with some of your propolis solution, perhaps some that have had a deceased queen soaking in it? Or would they not sense the interior any differently than the exterior and just pile on top?
